Is there any way to clean a vinyl sleeve?

Are there any services or ways that I can do it myself without damaging it?

 

I just got 808s and Heartbreak for a really nice price and I'm stoked to add it to my collection because it's one of my favorite albums of all time... but there are stains and stuff on the sleeve.

 

Any ideas?

I used to frequent a record store in Korea where the proprietor would constantly be cleaning sleeves.  Unfortunately the language barrier kept me from figuring out how he was doing so.

Interesting. I'd just be so worried that I'd use the wrong chemical or cloth on the type of album cover and ruin it or something x_x

Maybe a dry microfiber cloth and some elbow grease? What type of cover is it? Glossy?

I'm haven't an ounce of experience doing this but I can't imagine a tissue or cotton ball with a little bit of alcohol doing any damage. Maybe try it on an old record you don't care about.

If its a white sleeve, you can use a magic eraser. Don't use it on any other color, though!!

This, as you can see, is a light gray. No go?

Did you know it was like this when you bought it? If yes, did you buy it cheap in regards to 'restoring' it?

Is it mostly topical?

Has it bled into fibers?

All my questions are very important.

Yes, I knew it was like this. I bought it because I wanted to have it but if there's a way to make it look nicer for display I'm gonna try to do so. I'm not gonna re-sell it, it's very special to me.

 

Some of it seems to have bled in but some looks somewhat topical (not sure about this question)

my topical question is as follows:

 

if its a glossy or heavy stock with some kind of sheen, chances are its just a surface stain. if sometimes you use a sharpie on a really fibrous paper, the ink bleeds into it.

 

if this stain bled into the actual paper, its harder to get out.

if its not, then as mentioned, just a bit of elbow grease and a damp cloth. small short dabs.

Cool. If I just used a microfiber cloth and a toothbrush and wet both with a little bit of water do you think that would be good?

Make sure that toothbrush is a soft one. Too much water and rubbing will slowly eat and rub that ink away.
