Gippej
Sorry for the low quality picture, just a quick shot from my phone.
Vinyl Fury
Can you look at the deadwax and see if you can spot a U with a circle around it? That would mean it's pressed at united, in which case I'll go for black.
mcpherson123
Recycled purple marble for $22.99. I'll look for a black copy.
youspinmeround
Its not united. I cant tell where its pressed The overall mix is pretty low. It might be a cd rip(in which i am pretty sure the black and purple are same). The quality is fine as far as surface noise, etc
Gippej
A black wax copy is $22 on amazon, so I'm not mad I opted for the limited color pressing.

Low mixes can open up a lot more at louder volumes, so one may need to crank it!

Low mixes can open up a lot more at louder volumes, so one may need to crank it! It has nothing to do with volume. The mix is not very good. That is my initial thought. I will listen again tonight as this is one of my fav albums ever
Vinyl Fury
I think the word 'mix' may be confusing. It's not a different mix, it's the master level cut to the lacquer. With that much music per side, the volume has to be lower overall.
mattvsshark
Picked up the HT copy. I was happy to have this for less than 50 bucks but I agree with people saying it's lacking. I'll give it some more listens but my first impression was that is sounded a little weak. Definitely too much music per side.

Vinyl Fury
I guess this may be a instance when a MOV pressing is preferred. Interesting. I'm still gonna give the Yellow 'Core' pressing a shot on RSD.
mattvsshark
Agreed on the 2xLP. I haven't had a bad experience with MOV and knew they pressed this but it was always too pricey for me, even for a black copy. Apparently they're going to be pressing Tiny Music next month too so I'll go for that and maybe snatch their pressings of Core and Purple when I have the extra cash. mattvsshark
No experience but I haven't heard good things about Rhino and their vinyl reissues. Then again I seem to only hear bad about MOV and I love 'em. 2 cents. jackholexxxx
Vinyl Fury
Is it rhino? All rhino I've had experiences with have been great, mostly john coltrane analog remasters that are fantastic. Rhino is a speciality subsidiary of Atlantic, I was under the impression these are put out by Atlantic proper.
youspinmeround
Rhino is quality. I beleive they only do reissues and stuff of that nature so the quality is usually pretty well
Gippej
http://media.rhino.com/press-release/record-store-day-black-friday (Is this Rhino's official site?) Well, here's hoping it's worth waking up super early to get it, really the only thing I'm interested in this RSD.
youspinmeround
So core looks like its a single lp? MOV did it on 3 sides. This record is 53:37 minutes long. Thats alot for 2 sides Purple is 46:59 and we are complaining
Gippej
Yes that length warrants a 2xLP!! I will still give it a shot
mattvsshark
Thinking about letting go of my copy. It's the purple one from HT. It still has the shrink-wrap on it but it has been opened and played twice. No problems with it but as I said earlier in this thread I just wasn't wowed by the sound. To each his/her own though. Since it has been opened and played I'd be willing to part with it for $20 PPD. Just shoot me a pm.
