xxmartinxx
Not sure who got this Soundstatedirect email, but the Scout Jr.? What's that? I did a Google search and couldn't find anything. I wonder what the price point is?
zeb_enjoys_vinyl
the scout jr looks way nicer than the nomad... just sayin... and if it sounds even half as good as the vpi scout it'll be the next great turntable

3arl
based on the name, i'm guessing the nomad is meant to be somewhat portable but i could be completely wrong
xxmartinxx
The concept behind the Nomad is it's designed for college kids living in a dorm who want to listen to records without the need of a big hifi system.
allenh
Any idea on the price on these?
xxmartinxx
Nope.
jdtg
I believe the nomad is the vpi TT w/ built in preamp that comes in a package with grado headphones for $1000. I saw this comparison flyer tweeted a few days ago and was surprised seeing the scout jr. Haven't heard anything else about this one but I'm hoping it's near a $500 range
xxmartinxx
I doubt it will come in around $500. It will probably be more in the $1000 range. Requiescat
kannibal
I doubt it will come in around $500. It will probably be more in the $1000 range. If they are comparing the two, that's probably about right.
ratbbb2
I have no official knowledge of this but it looks like its a scout Plinth with a 300 rpm motor, Travelers Gimbal Arm and a thinner Aluminum/Stainless platter. Thinking Price would be about $15-1700. The Traveler is about 12 or 13 hundred and this will sit between the Newer Scout and the Traveler . The Scout as we know it will be replaced by a step up or down. Once again all speculation.
kannibal
Isn't 1700 pretty much a scout?
xxmartinxx
Yeah, that theory doesn't make any sense.
ratbbb2
When I bought my scout you could get it for $1500. The 1.1 is now $2000 and the Scout 2 is $2400. All prices checked on Soundstage direct. Once again all speculation on my part . We well see. Hope I'm wrong and it's at the 1k or less point so more enthusiast can get one. BTW the traveler runs between 1200 and 1500. Requiescat
I sort of agree with ratbbb2. I would be willing to bet the Nomad would go for ~$1000 and the Scout Jr. being somewhere around ~$1700 as well. It would be consistent with their current pricing structure. I just honestly cannot see VPI offering any table for less than ~$750, that's for damn sure. I do have to say, first and foremost, I was under the impression from VPI's own statements the Nomad's public release was a done deal months ago. I'm not sure why they're making it sound like it's more of an "either/or" type of situation now with this "pick the next VPI table" thing. Very confusing and I haven't heard much clarification either.
xxmartinxx
I emailed SoundStageDirect about the price and they said that they need to keep it under wraps until the event, but they'll make it public on Saturday. I'm going to guess this comes in at $1199 without a cartridge. ratbbb2
kannibal
It is true that the new traveller is, what, $1400? So who knows. It would be great if they could do something that seems as nice and cool as the Scout Jr for close to $1100. That's a RP3 w/cart.
ratbbb2
Got the rundown . New Jr is priced at $1200 with Cart. (Ortofon M2 red) 10"Gimble arm sourced from traveler but made of stainless and Aluminium. Platter for the time being is that of the traveler, same motor and plinth from the scout but no steel reinforcement and the feet are delran not aluminium. Good Side is it is fully upgradable . Fremer was at the release gathering so I'm certain it will be reviewed before we know it. Sounded nice but I'm sure a better cartridge would bring it up a notch or more. I was off the mark on this one (again)
kannibal
Burn! Interesting. I had a thought that it might be a bare bones, entry, and here's the reason why they are trying it, fully upgrade able. But it's not really bare bones. And, yeah, sounds like the Red is just in there for the sake of having it come ready to use. Cart upgrade is a MUST. Cool. xxmartinxx
That's a lot of table for $1200. I think VPI has another winner on it's hands.
