  1. What type of bands do you usually listen to? It's 'instrumental' but has crescendos and strong melodies. While I definitely do not get bored with it, there are down tempo moments on the album and if you don't have the patience to wait for the big splashes I could see this not being your bag. But I still strongly recommend it... if you don't like it, you can always gift it to another friend in hopes they would spin it
  2. Nah man, you like what you like. I love Untitled('sausages kissing') Takk, and Kveikur but have never gotten really into Med Sud, Valtari or Von, and while I like AB, it's not my favourite which is usually a sin among Sigur Ros fans.
  3. They call it 'hopelandic', direct from the Sigur Ros FAQ what language does jónsi sing in? on von, ágætis byrjun and takk, jónsi sang most songs in icelandic but a few of the songs were sung in 'hopelandic'. all of the vocals ( ) are however in hopelandic. hopelandic (vonlenska in icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. it's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet. many languages were considered to be used on ( ), including english, but they decided on hopelandic. hopelandic (vonlenska) got its name from first song which jónsi sang it on, hope (von). tracks 7-9 on takk are in hopelandic.
  4. Have you listened to any Sigur Ros before? If yes and you like their stuff, I would highly recommend it. Frankly, this is worth it for Untitled #8 in itself but the entire album is a great. Just don't expect to recognize any of the words
  5. Completely understood and agree. Not once did I say this was a bad press but merely said I would take heed, and that given the early 'mixed reviews' I won't be rushing to get a copy. Anyways, I'll step aside as I don't want to ruin what should be a pretty awesome get for a lot of people who have been waiting.
  6. "...therefore I have decided I do not need to risk spending +$50-60 CAD on a pressing that is getting mixed reviews. " First off, I stated that I was taking both sides into account, hence the 'mixed reviews'. Secondly, VC is littered with comments that are similar to mine and everyone could of let it go, but people decided to quote me and make a deal out of it. Not sure why... maybe it's because I acted like a party pooper? If so, I'm sorry. Surprising as it may be, I actually am really hoping this is a decent press for those who don't have it. It's my second favourite Sigur Ros record and perfect for the coming months.
  7. When have I provided my opinion on the grade of a record? My point was that if we want to rip into discogs ratings, it's only fair to apply the same rigor when assessing reviews on VC. EDIT: And just for shits and giggles, here is the profile of the person who asked about surface noise on discogs http://www.discogs.com/user/casteaux/collection?header=1
  8. Thanks for all you help and condescension Birdwell A ton of vinyl lovers are consistently pooched because of international shipping due to 'how the music industry works' so I apologize for our frustration and appreciate you telling us that's just the way it is.
  9. As opposed to a couple no name VC posters who say it sounds great? For a pressing that has had numerous recorded issues in the past? I have a great pressing at home, therefore I have decided I do not need to risk spending +$50-60 CAD on a pressing that is getting mixed reviews.
  10. Woah, then why ship the entire webstore allotment to the US to then ship a bunch back across seas at extra cost? Oh wait, nevermind, forgot how everyone outside the US is supposed to pay ridiculous shipping fees Also, another option for those looking to purchase this. It appears this may be in the VMP webstore for December at $39 USD, a steal if you ask me. I'm still holding out hope on my .ca preorder, but moreso for my local store who said they would hold a copy for me.
  11. Huh, I was considering tracking this down given the initial review of the sound quality, but I'll take heed and keep the Fat Cat 2009 press which sounds pretty good.
  12. That's very odd. Usually they have local European distribution (for example, try ordering almost anything else outside of the Takk reissue) that comes from the UK. Heck, they even had a place in Montreal for Canadian shipments. This must be pressed in the US and they a distributing them all from their distribution warehouse in Charleston I assume.
  13. Was listening to Visions yesterday, and the new song felt like she turned up the Ellie Goulding knob. Will wait and see for more samples, but I'm sure there will be some gems on this.
  14. I thought I saw another press of Bowie's Earthling around? I'm a NIN head but that Halo I-IV feels like a cash grab. Will wait to get it a lot cheaper hopefully. Nothing else stood out for me. More pumped about the recent reissues! Moby's Play, Sigur Ros's Takk and we already got TRON Legacy. Frankly, these types of reissues is what RSD should be about but oh well...
  15. Ordered! Thank you for the heads up! I now have Sonic Boom and Amazon.ca as options when a release date / distribution starts happening.
  16. Got an e-mail response and they said they created a label for me but never actually sent the package... happy they responded but yikes! Glad I remembered to contact them...
  17. Has anyone not received their set yet from the most recent release? I ordered June 17 and am still waiting. Actually forgot about the whole thing for awhile.
  18. Superman and Mad Max are in the vinyl section of the shop under Mondo. Up and big red letters telling me not to order Mad Max... damn. I waited on the first pressing so my fault for not jumping sooner.
  19. Thanks. Does that mean the initial pressing was a limited license of sorts and that they lost it internationally after a certain amount of time?
  20. Curious why the Mad Max variant in US only... is this due to licensing reasons? I missed the first variant and wanted to grab this one instead. Oh well.
  21. I have it preordered here with a local shop in Toronto, although I am scared they may not be able to fulfill it given some shoddy distribution in the NA market. I may also throw out an amazaon.ca pre-order as a hail mary to ensure this bucket-list record is brought home before 2016.
  22. Think I'm going to stick with my 2009 Fat Cat repress. Sounds great and I have heard of small issues with the newer pressings. I do love my coloured variants though... Going to be a tougher choice when the AB expanded edition comes out. Will be a tough choice between that and the DMM version from 2009.
  23. On topic, I'm really curious about the NIN release. As a NIN-head it will be hard to pass up even if it's just a money grab from an old label. I will be grabbing that Bowie Earthling release though...
  24. i.e., 'sacrifice the quality of the product to allow more people to afford it!' I'm pretty sure that is the anti-Mondo slogan.
