  1. As another Canadian feeling the heat, my variant collecting or limited edition pre-orders have definitely shrunk, especially over the past year. I don't think the bubble will burst, but as countries find themselves in their own economic peril, the vinyl buying/selling ecosystem may be forced into a more regional/national model where people have to rely more on the .ca's and local stores than hitting up the record label for limited editions. While that may sound like a good thing, local stores still need to purchase through distributors and will simply be passing down the cost to the consumer. So while I may pay a little less for a standard release at an indie store than buying straight from the label, it will still be $5 more than it used to be. Heck, even shipping INSIDE Canada is stupid expensive...
  2. I'd also like to say the deluxe of ...like clockwork was SO worth the extra cost. But it's up to you on how you value the physical product. The vinyl itself was heavy, booklet was a beauty with Boneface's artwork, and the card stock of the sleeve is top notch. That being said, if you just want the tunes, stick to the standard.
  3. If I've bought a record and don't have to time to give it a thorough clean/spin yet, I'll toss the record in its' shrink in a sleeve and shelve it. That way when I do get around to it, I remove the shrink and don't have to go searching for another. I'm also not a big vinyl framing guy, but to each their own on that front. However if you are framing, the shrink will only add another level of reflection, assuming the frame has glass and/or plastic already covering the album. So I'd personally remove the shrink, again assuming this piece will remain framed/in your collection for the foreseeable future.
  4. For anyone who has actually listened to this, it is beyond a gimmicky record and packaging. It's a true remix record and most of the cat sounds are distorted enough to be passed off as actual electronic elements. I think it's great that they look it this seriously and released an actual listenable album from front to end.
  5. Studio Gardenia, much better than the live performance IMO Also, an Amazon.ca listing for the Deluxe: http://www.amazon.ca/Post-Pop-Depression-Deluxe-Vinyl/dp/B01AY1C3RC/ref=mb_oe_l
  6. This thread went straight into the looney bin... Shrink-wrap ruins records? Damn, I should go to my local shops to tell them all that those new albums that have been on display for years are ruined and should probably be thrown in the dollar bin. I understand that shrink-wrap is not good for a record, but to basically say his record will be warped (no questions asked) by keeping it in shrink-wrap is nothing more than throwing shade. Back on topic... love this record, but by the time I had the chance to listen the whole 'situation' happened. I'm going to put a timer on and take a look at prices / used-bin in a year.
  7. So it actually sounds like you do understand why there is a little fuss around the price For a 2xLP at 150g, non-gatefold, distributed in Canada, non-limited set; $40+tax a pop is a little steep (but hey, it's Matt good so no surprise at the price). I'm starting to accept that $30-$40 is going to be the standard price for a 2xLP album going forward, but I can see why others see this as a little pricey.
  8. He's being a dick, and no that is not the clear variant. Assume the clear variant is gone and that most listings are for the black standard; at least for now.
  9. There is also 'deluxe' pre-order which is described as (I am assuming this is similar to the difference between Like Clockwork's standard and deluxe) : Limited Edition Deluxe Vinyl Includes: 180g Heavy-Weight Vinyl Gatefold Packaging 16 page booklet Extra Thick Cover http://postpopdepression.shopfirebrand.com/products/post-pop-depression-deluxe-vinyl
  10. Definitely going to check this out! Always interested in seeing the selection at new stores.
  11. I don't mind paying a premium, but not at the $150 CAD + shipping rate it currently is on discogs.
  12. I straight up avoid TRS because I know I'll find a couple 'must haves' and my bank account will end up suffering for it. You are not the first person, and probably won't be the last to say to me that they have the worst markups in TO. SB's wall is a close second. I guess you at least know the used ratings at TRS are accurate... I can't say the same for SB.
  13. Looking forward to this but I think amazon caught on and the vinyl is either not available or back up to what it looks like retail price here in Canada. And my continued search for a decent copy of Niggy Tardust at a decent price continues...
  14. Awesome deal. Anyone have an OG copy of this and find it very muddled? I'm not sure if it's just a crappy pressing I have or if was meant to sound a little lo-fi. Also .ca pre-order is up. http://www.amazon.ca/Painting-Vinyl-Animal-Collective/dp/B018RLBASY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453324995&sr=8-1&keywords=animal+collective+vinyl
  15. Definitely interested in this but not sure about the $50 CAD price tag (that includes shipping). There is a .ca preorder up for this for $35 and I'm hoping they get the clear variant as it works very nicely with the cover art.
  16. RIP Bowie. Such horrible news to wake up to on a Monday.
  17. Grabbed the clear as well. I'm wondering if the addition of the clear was a response to the black selling out or actually planned. Considering the black is sold out I'm sure I won't have any issues moving it, but I'll wait to hear on the quality of the pressings and keep the better one.
  18. Fragrant World didn't sit well with me but I love AHC and Odd Blood so this will be followed closely. Tease can be found here: http://pitchfork.com/news/62642-yeasayer-tease-new-music/
  19. I hope it will leak soon... that way I can decide if I need the limited edition or not.
  20. Avalanche is also the one I'm waiting on. I've seen used copies for +$100 but that's a little too rich for my blood for a non-essential album in my collection. I'll grab beautiful midnight and underdogs if I find them for a decent price. Much Music made sure I know at least 3 singles off each...
  21. Yeap... it's called 'the crate', although you generally have to wait until the following month to purchase the previous month's AOTM offering http://vinylmeplease.com/crate/ Also, they used to do free records for both parties when referring a new member... not sure if they have replaced that with a $10 store credit? But PM me if you want to join so you can get a referral bonus. http://vinylmeplease.com/refer-a-friend/
  22. I pay out the ass for my international VMP subscription and I love it. This curated selection in conjunction with their store where they release exclusive pressings and other awesome albums (Sigur Ros's Takk was $39) is worth it for me. Is it pricey? Fuck yes, but those are the breaks of the hobby. That being said, not fully looking forward to Jan's selection but I'll give it a whirl.
