  1. Yeah - I like it. I like all their albums. The production doesn't bother me on this so much, I think mature bands become audiophiles as they get older and don't tolerate some of the rawness that fans connect to on earlier records. I think this album is missing two songs where Eddie just sounds really angry. I think his snarl has been missing for a bit. Running is a great opportunity for just some real primal screaming, but he doesn't go there. There is a bit of a Pink Floyd with more tempo feel to this. EDIT - And you're right @jhulud some outstanding rhythm section work being done.
  2. Wow - that's nuts. I got P1 for the 2nd Fenway show. Anxiously awaiting to see exactly how far up they'll stick me.
  3. Man - I dumped all of these records super fast, except for the Falcon, for basically pennies. I just discog'd them ... shit.
  4. Yeah - I waited until the glitch was fixed, but with $13 shipping it still ran me over $60 for a single LP. I did it, but that's still a little crazy.
  5. Haha - tons of bitching over there. HOWEVER, I am a bit sympathetic, as a fellow 10C member, that we are pretty much getting hosed on the membership. The shipping price snafu was ridiculous, as is the all-in cost for the exclusive 10C vinyl. Coming from a band that raged against this sort of price gouging in the 90s it is a little tough to swallow. I swallowed it, but I did feel like I was being taken advantage of/taken for granted. My membership number is high enough that I already know the two GA shows I put in for are going to dump me into the nosebleeds and I'll lose money trying to sell at least one of them on the fan2fan, while still paying them $30/year. I did it anyway to be optimistic, but I could feel their fingers in my pockets.
  6. Someone's about to get a really good deal on World/Inferno Friendship Society - The Anarchy and the Ecstasy https://www.ebay.com/itm/325984388870?_trksid=p2471758.m4703
  7. Don't know if you're into hardcore, but it's a testament to OR that her songs hold up when played like this:
  8. I need to clean out some deadwood so I can fit new stuff in my cabinet. Add $5 to every price to cover shipping. No reasonable offer refused! Ted Leo - Brutalist Bricks (Black): $10 Ted Leo - The Hanged Man (2x LP, Black): $10 PUP - The Unraveling (Dark Splatter): $20 The Replacements - Stink (Black): $15 EELS - The Deconstruction (2x 10", Yellow): $20 EELS - Wonderful, Glorious (2x 10", Black): $15 Dinosaur Jr. - Farm (2x LP, Black): $15 Token Entry - The Reissues (2x LP, #235/500, Mustard-ish): $20
  9. THanks - what do you mean by amplified twice?
  10. Appreciate any thoughts you all have. So I have two set ups: one in my office (vintage Sony table, harman/kardon receiver + random table speakers), and a primary table downstairs (1st generation uTurn with an external pre-amp). I've been listening to vinyl for quite a while and am fairly adept at setting up and maintaining my gear. But for the life of me I can't figure out the upstairs set up. One of the speakers jumps in and out every time I play a record. To try and chase down the source of the issue: - I've switched out the speaker wire with new top of the line stuff. -I've switched out the speakers. - I've switched the ports. Nothing works. I brought the receiver back to the place I bought it, and asked him to repair it. He said nothing was wrong with it, put a record on in front of me and played it loud no issue. He wasn't using my speakers or table. Is there something I'm not thinking of that could be causing this? Is it likely that my receiver just has a gremlin in it that doesn't pop up when it's in the shop? Is there something on the table that could be fucking this up? I sort of want to trash all the equipment and start fresh with another new uTurn table and speakers, but that seems wasteful.
  11. The album is really good stuff.
  12. There's a 7 slide instagram post that she penned about being accused by some anonymous person which triggered her bi-polar and caused her to take a step back. She strongly denied everything. HOWEVER if you look at the comments, almost all of the people calling her a liar, etc. are other Australian musicians who seem to imply that these issues about her are well-known to them, and that she knows exactly who is making the accusations. https://www.instagram.com/carla_geneve/?hl=en
  13. ...And she's been accused of rape and other shadiness.
  14. Yeah - from the tone of the messaging and the suddenness, if this was a guy, I would assume that he got caught up in some shadiness with women.
  15. Dredging this back up - if anyone is interested, I sold my second novel, Anarchy and Other Lies to a small publisher out in San Fran: https://www.montagpress.com/books-1/anarchy-and-other-lies I appreciate any support slinging these books so I look good in front of the publisher and get to keep on doing this. You can preview it on Amazon for free and get it cheap as Kindle download. Thanks, Jesse
  16. So I got a refund today on the Carla Geneve - Learn To Like It LP from Remote Control. I'd ordered it in January and forgotten about it, when they rolled right past the release date of 4/23. I checked her instagram and there was a fairly cryptic handwritten message saying she was struggling with bi-polar and resetting how she treats people around her, or something like that. Comments were disabled, and there was a fair amount of activity leading up to late June. Seems strange to just cancel an album, that appeared ready to go. It's not just the vinyl that got nixed, they pulled everything down off bandcamp. Anyone know what's up?
  17. I stumbled across this band through some random internet avenues and I can't get their new EP out of my head. I don't normally listen to pop music so I don't have any good comparisons. But check them out: https://babasonya.bandcamp.com/album/nadila-2
  18. Hey VCers, My first novel - Dead Cats and Other Reflections on Parenthood - was published this week. You can pick it up on Amazon here Here is the description: Joel Peterson's rock bottom is deeper and darker than he ever imagined, but with the help of the ghost of Kurt Cobain he hatches a plan to capture the attention of his estranged family and reclaim his life. Dead Cats and Other Reflections on Parenthood is a dark comedy that tracks the downward spiral of Peterson, a once successful dentist and proud member of the upper middle-class as he falls into a spiral of drugs and vanity. When a car crash leaves him battered and homeless, he finds comfort in the restless lost soul of Cobain. Together, the two cut a path across southern Maine, chasing the meaning in their lives, desperately trying to be the men they expected to become I've had some positive reviews and DCORP, as an unpublished manuscript reached the semifinals of the 2017 Booklife Prize: Publisher's Weekly Review I am going to start an advertising campaign but first I would like to have some reviews on Amazon or Goodreads. If the book looks interesting to any of you, I would appreciate the support. Thanks, Jesse
  19. What is your favorite obscure(ish) Petty song?
  20. Not to dredge this horrible topic back up, but to do exactly that, this threatening to nuke North Korea game that he and Mattis are playing is disgusting. This sort of rhetoric is awful and this is pretty much the worst case scenario of a Trump presidency, playing out only 6 months into his term. I'm sure someone has some awesome meme about how Trump kills North Koreans using the tears of liberals or something else so fucking sweet.
  21. Totally and i believe I said as much above. I just didn't know I had walked into a pizza-gate thing.
  22. Its possible to dislike both. Not everything is a black and white hypocrisy. Two thoughts can exist at the same time. As a conservative, should I ask you to defend Bush? Should I assume that you are an imperialist war-mongerer(sp?)? Go ahead, dig that hole.
