  1. I'm not sure you really understand what people mean by hacking. Most of the voting machines were not connected to the internet, making them unhackable. The Clinton email thing on the other hand...doesn't negate my point. Wait, why am I explaining this? Aren't you a fake troll?
  2. I can understand why you would feel attacked, but I don't think anyone is saying you aren't entitled to your opinion. This thread is a way to bitch about Trump, as some of the things he has done and the way he has rolled them out and messaged them is indefensible (IMO). If you told illegals they could be legal citizens, all they had to do was pay taxes, I'm sure most would jump at that chance, and there are few more "needed" industries than the one fulfilled by immigrants (food production, etc.). We were lucky to be born into this situation, other aren't and I don't begrudge them the chance to make their lives better. In all practicality there has to regulations on immigration, but the Trump approach is above and beyond. The other things you say are mostly reasonable, and that's the frustrating thing, Trump would not have been elected if the reasonable people hadn't jumped on board. Some of his policies can be excused as standard R fare, others are meant to appeal only to the worst/angriest amongst us, like WAXXX who felt that the right to vote shouldn't be universal.
  3. For this analogy to really be more spot on, person in said house would also have to inherited that house from their family, and contributed to the instability in the visitor's life that left them homeless. Americans (including me) by and large have contributed little to nothing to this country, benefitting only from a birth lottery where we were born into the right country/circumstance. I don't think there are great answers to the immigration question, but feeling entitled to exclude others from the American experience because we benefit from fortunate circumstances doesn't sit well with me. EDIT: The entire quote didn't come through, I was also referring back to Macho Man's analogy about a homeless person.
  4. I was just pointing out that things seem pretty good for you. You didn't answer my question, so I'll assume that the answer is "no, I'm just angry." If your major sticking point is immigration, then Obama should be viewed as a pretty good president. He didn't do anything as needlessly symbolic as building a wall, but he sure did kick out a lot of people.
  5. I grew up in MA, and since you mentioned that your job isn't likely to be affected by immigration, you have enough disposable income to be addicted to vinyl and enough free time to cruise message boards - I made some assumptions. Was I wrong?
  6. Also, I'm curious - is immigration the only or at least the primary policy point that drove you to Trump or do you support the trickle down economics, anti-science, drill baby drill stuff as well? One of you mentioned that you were sick of the 1% ruling everything, are you disappointed in his cabinet picks and tax cut for the rich plan?
  7. Vinyl Addict lives in MA. He's angry about illegal immigrants because he wants to be, not because he has ever been affected by them in real life. It's a nice excuse, but not one that the "majority" of people share.
  8. The irony is that a lot of the people seeking asylum in the US are running here because of chaos we created in their country. We've had a long history of destabilization in Central America, whether a leader was democratically elected or not, and the people from the middle east are running from areas that are being actively bombed by our drones (and worse). We can't abdicate the responsibility we have to clean up our own messes, especially when the countries left in our wake are smoldering piles of rubble. These are just people who weren't fortunate enough to be born between the most preferable artificial borders, they aren't all drug dealers, rapists and whatever other broad brush Trump paints with. Empathy, my friend. Empathy.
  9. Yes. And everything else, crowd sizes, rating lies, etc. is a cleverly designed distraction for a media and consumer that obsesses over petty bullshit. I'm sure this tactic is somewhere in the Art of War, prop up some piñata at the gate and slip it in the back doors of the rest of us.
  10. This guy WAXXX has done a terrific job of highlighting why the internet is the worst. Actually having a conversation about Trump's faults and strengths (shudder, but I'm sure I could find some) is a whole lot different than going on a message board and bathing in "alternative facts" until it goes so far that all of the sudden we're arguing about whether all people should have a fundamental right to vote. Somewhere in these 100+ pages we all got played. Internet slopes are the slipperiest.
  11. Miscellaneous Pixies - Head Carrier I don't love this album, but wow do I love Baal's Back Dead To Me - I Wanna Die in Los Angeles CAN WE GET A FULL LENGTH SOON PLZ?!? David Bowie - Blackstar I think I appreciate this album more than I actually want to listen to it. Runner Ups: Violent Soho - WACO This album was good but didn't reach the heights of Hungry Ghost. I was disappointed but probably had outsized expectations. Dinosaur Jr. - Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not This felt a bit mailed in to me. I still liked it, but there was some disconnect that kept from falling head over heels into it. Top 10 10) Joyce Manor - Cody 9) Fucko - Dealing With The Weird 8) Astronautilus - Cut the Body Loose 7) Andrew Jackson Jihad - The Bible 2 6) A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service 5) Iggy Pop - Post Pop Depression 4) Against Me! - Shape Shift with Me 3) PUP - The Dream Is Over 2) The Dirty Nil - Higher Power 1) Jeff Rosenstock - Worry
  12. OK here is my list, broken up into buckets. STUFF I WAS DISAPPOINTED BY ON SOME LEVEL: Graveyard - Innocence and Decadence I really loved their last two releases but this felt a little neutered to me. Also with the pace slowed and guitars turned down some questionable song writing was highlighted. Still not a bad listen, just not what I was expecting. Meat Wave - Delusion Moon Their EP Brothers was also released this year and it got me all frothy for the full length, which is fine but didn't hit me the way I hoped it would. Joanna Gruesome - Peanut Butter I thought their last release, Sisters, was amazing and I hoped they would keep pushing the envelope but PB feels a lot toned down from the frantic pop violence of their first album. Again, a fine album, just not world dominating like I expected. Murder By Death - Big Dark Love I do like this record, it's just that my expectations were sky high after Bitter Drink... It's quite good just a victim of MBD's high standards. Also the covers album this year wasn't as good, although I guess that's not really their fault. STUFF I LIKED: Foo Fighter - St. Cecilia Solid - typical Foo. It was cool that they gave it away Cage The Elephant - Tell Me I'm Beautiful This album is only a week old but after about a dozen spins I think it is their weakest to date. This may very well grow out of this category into STUFF I LOVED eventually but it's definitely the least alternative rock-y release they've had. https://youtu.be/XLj3mwsb0uc STUFF I LOVED: Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit This record completely dominated the late spring - early summer. She is an amazing songwriter and this album completely rocks. Diamond Rugs - Cosmetics This is a side project for a bunch of guys, most notably (to me) the lead singer for Deer Tick. This album is amazing even better than their last release in 2012. Laura Stevenson - Cocksure Beautiful but rocking record, that is her best since Sit Resist. Antarticgo Vespucci - Leavin' La Vida Loca I didn't think I liked this record at first - it seemed to be background noise but it grew and grew on me until I found myself craving it and then screaming it in the car alone. Bastardous - Bastardous I saw them in April at the Suicide Machines show in Boston and was blown away. I waited seven months for the vinyl and the record did not disappoint. Really great stuff and completely dominating my iPod/turntable right now. Rally of the Crows is my favorite track but they have virtually no presence on youtube, so the best link I can provide is their bandcamp. http://bastardous.bandcamp.com Leftover Crack - Constructs of the State Is this a dispassionate LoC or just mature? I don't know what's going on, the band has definitely lost its manic edge but this record is a really fun listen. STUFF THAT RULED MY LIFE FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME: Hop Along - Painted Shut I was like a crack addict for this record. I was checking twitter and Facebook and instagram for over a year hoping for any mention about if and when there would be a new record. It was amazing, she's such a great song writer and I love their whole sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-uvMjx0-zk Busdriver - Thumbs I am very particular about the rap I listen to but this album (technically a mixed tape?) really hit me in the sweat spot. Great beats, good flow and well used guest spots on each track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNQq_SbVLXY Break Anchor - In A Van Down By the River Think of Dead to Me mixed with The Suicide Machines. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIN8DMJnBWM Jeff Rosenstock - We Cool? All hail all things Brosenstock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76EEdbawMl8 I can't figure out how to get it to embed the videos consistently. If someone has a tip let me know.
  13. Eels - Electro Shock Blues Nirvana - In Utero Suicide Machines - Battle Hymns Bomb the Music Industry! - Goodbye Cool World Against Me! - As the Eternal Cowboy Pearl Jam - Vitalogy R.E.M. - Monster Pixies - Doolittle Rancid - ...And Out Come the Wolves None More Black - File Under Black I think I hate this list already.
  14. All I could find for a domestic release was black vinyl. Any other variants being released stateside?
  15. I've replaced the meat with frankly a lot of beans. I don't have very many options. I'm pretty clear on what I want to accomplish. I'm OK with the definition I have attained, what I want to do is claw back some of the strength I've lost this year. I've stuck to a bodybuilding style rep range most of my life. I know where my maxes are, I've been doing this for a long time. Super heavy for me is a powerlifting style 5-5-3 rep range which I started this week, I'll let you guys know in 6 weeks or so how it went.
  16. I spoke with my local record purveyor and they were able to pre-order Electro Shock Blues by itself. Maybe I'm behind but i did't see that option elsewhere on the internet.
  17. Thanks for the sounding board. I don't have access to any other gym nerds in my day to day life so this was really helpful. I agree about the pea protein, not ideal and the taste is brutal. I got off milk because it was wreaking havoc with my skin but I really miss my ON Whey. I did creatine in college for awhile but found it left me kind of puffy from the water weight I retained, maybe I'll give it a shot again. I'll go super heavy next month and see how that feels. Maybe I have to face facts about my age and body type, long limbs aren't ideal for lifting.
  18. Yeah a heavy program like that is interesting and close to what I do now. I structure my days (except arms) around the four main exercises and typically stick to 3 - 5 reps in four sets with at least two minutes of rest, then I do 4 - 5 other ancillary exercises at the higher rep range for 4 sets with 30 seconds - 1 minute of rest between sets. I think I'll try this with flat bench though to see how it goes, right now I do 6-8 reps, 9-10 reps, 10-12 reps for three working sets with the weight decreasing. I had good results with it at first but clearly it isn't working anymore. I eat 5 times a day, very clean (no processed foods, limited refined sugars, bad fats and sodium) except for some treats on the weekends. It's been tough to keep my protein intake up after cutting out 75% of the meat I used to eat. That could be part of it too. BY rest are you referring to between sets or at night? I have a three year old so one is easier than the other (haha). Think I should cut back on the number of exercises I do each day? Thanks for the suggestion.
  19. OK, so here's my situation. I am 6'6 ~207 pounds, 31 years old. I have been an avid weightlifter since junior high. Through college I lifted mostly to improve athletic performance (basketball) and weighed as much as 230 LBs. After college, I adjusted my diet, leaned out to my current weight and began lifting obsessively. I lost a little bit of strength when I cut weight but gained definition. In the past two years I have drastically cut back on the amount of meat I eat and completely cut out dairy, which meant no more whey. Currently I supplement with a vegan pea based protein powder (~ 40 grams/day) a BCAA mix (~12K msg/day), fish oil and glucosamine. I work out for at least an hour a day in the morning on a fast except for the BCAAs. I take 3/4 of my protein shake immediately after lifting and then 1/4 around 3 PM. My weekly routine is: Chest Monday, Arms Tuesday, Back Wednesday, Cardio and Legs Thursday, Shoulders on Friday. My problem is I have noticed a very steady drop in strength over the past few years. I no longer make gains and have trouble even maintaining my current load of: Bench: 225 x 4-8 reps (varies wildly) Deadlift: 330 x 2 reps Squat: 300 x 5 reps I am very confident that I have proper form: I've grown up in a powerlifting family and every few years pay for some personal training upkeep. I keep up on the science and make sure to vary my routines. Standard rep range is 6-10 reps but one week out of four I will completely change everything and either go very heavy or light. I don't incorporate rest weeks regularly into my schedule but when I come back from vacation I never see a bump. Any suggestions about how I can get back on track and keep improving? Could it be as simple that I maxed out my frame at this weight? Even so I think I'm too young to see any degradation. Thanks, Jesse
  20. Thanks. Sorry, apparently the search function is shit.
  21. Did anyone else preorder this? I haven't seen anything yet (LP or DL) and Machete lists my order as pending still. Has anyone received theirs or know more than me?
  22. I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian but I have found the Green Elephant to be too heavy. Silly's has great vegan/veggie food and other options. Check out Strange Maine on Congress Street. There are some smaller record places around there too. The better Bull Moose (selection-wise) is actually in South Portland across from the Mall. If you and you're GF want to be outside drive to Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth (15 minutes). The secret is to go over the rock face on the north side of the beach. On the other side is a little cove with the BEST sea glassing in the world (at least the world I have seen). Sorry about the weather but also fuck you we've been dealing with this horseshit for months.
  23. What the fuck is happening in this thread now? I ordered the basic table with delivery in late March. I'll report back as to quality.
  24. Thanks, I waded through 13 pages of .gifs and bickering looking for a review of the equipment before I just gave up.
  25. Does anyone own a U-Turn Orbit table? http://uturnaudio.com/ I need a new table and don't have any desire to spend more than $200 so U-Turn looks like an interesting option. Are they any good? What is the difference (besides price) between the Basic and the Plus models? Thanks for the help.
