  1. I'd rather have a CD than a digital download. As mentioned earlier, the mp3's are usually shitty 128 or 192. Hell, even the rare V0 is usually a shitty iTunes rip. At least with a CD you can convert to V0, 320, or Flac. Paying for compressed music is lame. I'd rather rip my vinyl anyway. It's cooler to have the actual rip of my vinyl available. And it usually sounds better because CD's are overly compressed.
  2. My thoughts - This is the worst of all the Jay Reatard 7-inches. Pretty much un-listenable.
  3. I hope it sounds better than the UK pressing of the vinyl. It's muddy, very mid-fi, and there is a lot of siblance. I'll buy this one regardless, but I hope it sounds better than my other ones.
  4. I knew it was going to be repressed. I'm glad I cashed in when I got a chance. Good record, but $280 for something that isn't that old, or on color even, you can't pass that up. That bought a lot of other records instead.
  5. I think they're better than 90% of what passes for good music nowadays. But if you don't like synthpop, then you'll hate them regardless.
  6. I saw them at Pitchfork. I think the singer sounds like Stevie Ray Vaughn, and in my opinion, that's not a good thing. I can't get into it either.
  7. I wish... I had a bunch of "friends" on oink. Mostly, they would request vinyl rips, and I would oblige. But I didn't have actual email addresses, just PM's through oink. But my vinyl rips are top notch (Pro-Ject RM5 > Ortofon Super OM 40 Cartridge > Pro-Ject Tube Box > Pro-Ject Speed Box > Mackie 1202 > Alesis Masterlink). I would do three rips of everything: Flac 24,96, Flac 16,44, and MP3 V0. Every rip (from CD) was done with EAC in secure mode. This is all stuff that is meaningless to anyone less than a die hard music fanatic. Some of the more popular things that I've ripped and uploaded (vinyl): Oasis - What's the Story, Morning Glory (with the bonus track) (the flac rip of this had over 200 downloads, that's great for a vinyl rip) Oasis - Definitely Maybe White Stripes - Icky Thump (maybe this album didn't bring down oink, but it was definitely problematic for them) Buzzcocks - Another Music in a Different Kitchen The Faint - (That first 7" they put out, the split, I can't remember the name of it now) Depeche Mode - Playing the Angel (the 24,96 flac vinyl rip had over 50 downloads, which is impressive for a hi-res vinyl rip) Morrissey - I Just Wanted To See The Boy Happy (Picture Disc 12") Chumbawamba - Anarchy Gary Numan - The Plan Vol. 1-3 Lots of old punk 7"s, Buzzcocks, The Saints, Blitzkrieg Bop (the band, not the Ramones song), Subhumans, Wire (Dot Dash) And countless CD singles (the other thing that I collect)... Morrissey, Oasis, Blur, Graham Coxon... I even took requests, and was willing to take vinyl sent in the mail, rip it, and put it up. This only happened once, and I can't remember the name of the album. I hope this helps... I miss high quality mp3's... And I buy everything that's good on vinyl. This just helps weed out the crap, or let me download the album when I'm too lazy to rip it.
  8. I uploaded shitloads of stuff when I was on Oink. Had a share ratio of over 3.0. Most of the stuff I uploaded was vinyl rips (which were praised in the forums!). I was the first to finally upload a vinyl rip of "Icky Thump" which, ironically, was the release that brought down Oink. Now, when I search for torrents, I either find only links to "what" (which of course, I can't download), or some shitty mutt rip from a million different crappy sources. Please, if someone has invites to What, I would really, really appreciate it. If I had a trade list available, I'd even offer some records in exchange.
  9. If you want them screened, I'll do it.
  10. I'm pretty sure Blood Visions wasn't released on color. It doesn't seem that In The Red does any color at all. Seems kinda pointless not to.
  11. I have the Jejune/Jimmy split, and I guarantee that there is a full song that ends correctly on it. Your automatic arm is stopping and returning to it's resting state too soon. See if you can adjust it. Or get a new deck without an automatic arm.
  12. Reckless. It's not picked over, it just has a lot of foot traffic. But it also has the most people selling their collections to them. And they put out new "used" records all day long. So what's there in the morning could be different from the afternoon. As for their prices, it's hit or miss. I've found obscenely obscure records for dirt cheap, while a still in print copy of something is labeled as an original press for too much money. Dave's is also good. Most of the other ones just deal in new shit (which you can usually just mailorder the color instead), or the really common used items that are worth no more than $0.25 but they want $7.99
  13. They're playing my show in Chesterton IN on Monday. It's awesome that it coincides with this release!
  14. I think I should be the one to print them. How do I go about getting this job?
  15. I felt bad saying something.... But it is a great record.
  16. Bomp has them for $10, and they have the 7" as well. http://www.bompstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=8799
  17. I couldn't agree more, the Network needs to be pressed.
  18. That autographed raveonettes is pretty cool too.
  19. Ebay and Paypal suck! Shipping overseas is getting worse and worse. I shipped a first pressing of The New York Dolls S/T to Italy. The guy said he got it and the vinyl had a big chunk broken out of it. I explained that chunks don't break out of vinyl LP's. He said he would provide pictures. He never did. He filed a complaint with Paypal, which ruled in his favor, although I had perfect feedback on records I had shipped previously. The only thing that ended up saving me was the fact that he was supposed to send it back and provide tracking to Paypal and never did. Surprise surprise... He then sent me a fake email from paypal.co.uk telling me to send the money back. Ha! Then... I sent out a Smiths "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" promo a few months back. The asshole said he never got it, I couldn't find my tracking info, and paypal ruled in his favor and took all $117 and gave it back to him. They ALWAYS rule in favor of the buyer, even if the buyer has multiple complaints of fraud. My mom sells on ebay regularly and had the same problems with overseas buyers. And if you pad your shipping costs to buy things like tracking, insurance, etc. you can get in trouble with ebay. Your best bet is to not use paypal, only accept cash or money orders, and get insurance and tracking on every single package you send out. Also, pictures of the record prior to shipping help a lot. And make sure to state in your description that you are not responsible for damage during shipping. And this is why I say stay away from paypal. Because even if you state this, they don't care and will still take your money and give it back to the buyer. At least no one can take your money if you get a money order in the mail. Also, shipping to only "safe" parts of the world helps... US, Canada, and Europe (even though Italy seems sketchy...). Fuck paypal.
  20. I'm curious what kind of gear everyone has, or if most people are using the USB option. My gear goes like this: (Stylus) Ortofon OM40 > (Table) Pro-ject RM5 with Speedbox > (preamp) Pro-ject Tube Box > Alesis Masterlink (16/44.1) > CDR > Exact Audio Copy > Lame Frontend (V0 preset) For older records, I'll rip at 24/88.1 and dither down to CD audio, then store the hi-res audio with the record for archival purposes. As long as the records are mastered well and clean, the audio sounds amazing! I'll usually even rip new records rather than grab the audio from bit torrent because of the harsh CD compression, not to mention that the MP3's are usually ripped with shitty settings in itunes.
  21. I bought my copy from Burning Heart in like 2000, along with a bunch of Hives records. The second "Shape" hit $300 on ebay, I figured it was time to sell, because I know this record will eventually be re-issued. I ended up getting $220 for mine around Xmas time. I can't believe someone would pay that much for a record that just three years ago, I saw at least ten of at Hot Topic. But if I didn't sell now, I'd kick myself when the reissue came out and the price dropped to $20. It's a good record, but not $220 good... And it sounded really awesome on my system, but it was the Burning Heart version.
