Albums That Should Be Pressed on Vinyl
FangsAnalSatan replied to chutterhanban's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Was Papa Roach's magnum opus Infest ever pressed on vinyl? -
What was everyone's complaint about the Rhino repress? I've got it and don't remember anything particularly terrible about it.

what's the most you've ever spent on a record?
FangsAnalSatan replied to a topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
That is a very good point and makes a lot more sense. -

When I was variant chasing The Fall Of Troy I bought the 1st press of Doppelganger for like $100, now people are sending me messages offering upwards of $300 for it, which makes like zero sense to me because it has two represses. Maybe because the represses are through Enjoy the Ride ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
What books are you reading?
FangsAnalSatan replied to beneathbelow's topic in Everything Else Message Board
Well at it's core, House of Leaves is a book containing a book that is about an essay detailing a documentary that doesn't actually exist (in both real life and the universe of the book). Because a large chunk of the book is a Chicago Style essay, if you want to get in depth you have to read all of the footnotes (which reference books, movies and shows that don't exist), and because it's an essay, there is an index, which one of which contains a collection of letters, which you should read segmentally as you read through the non-essay part of the novel to really help understand the meaning of things (or in some cases - what's really going on). So if you just read it beginning to end, not paying attention to indexes, footnotes and other things, you'll get a full novel, but reading all of those small things really adds to the book but makes it more tedious. I mean, there are reccomended reading guides, which would help you understand the novel with one reading, but it might be nicer and more organic and rewarding if you reread the certain parts after you make some connections later. But that's just me. -

Reading House Of Leaves is a bit of an undertaking the first time you read it, but worth all the effort. As weird as it sounds, the more of it you read of it, the more you get out of it. It's totally possible to read it cover to cover and enjoy it, which is what I did the first time I read it all those years ago, but a few years ago I found a suggested way to read it on the internet and it makes it a lot more interesting, but it is also more involved. -

The book House Of Leaves was what really got me into reading back when I was a disaffected 15 year old, and I recently found out it was heavily inspired by the book Pale Fire. I picked it up and I'm really enjoying it. I also just finished Jonathan Franzen's compendium of essays How To Be Alone which was a great read, though one essay I felt seriously dragged on. -

I felt the same, so I emailed them. They're going to have them for sale once they receive them from the manufacturer. -

Custom Turntable Weights
FangsAnalSatan replied to FangsAnalSatan's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
This. Sorry I've been speaking in Canadian dollars, I didn't even realize the current discrepancy in the dollar values (Haven't been buying enough records!). So yeah, for all of those deterred by the $50 price tag, does it being ~$38 USD change your minds at all? -
Custom Turntable Weights
FangsAnalSatan replied to FangsAnalSatan's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
From what I can tell the only weights that are around $30 are ones that have been produced in China, so I feel as if that explains why their price is so low considering most go for ~$50-100. If I were to sell them for $30 that would just cover the aluminum and not the cost of the machinist who is creating them each individually. As I've said before I'm not looking to quit my job and sell record weights or anything, I just thought it would be cool to make these and give people handmade record weights. -
Custom Turntable Weights
FangsAnalSatan replied to FangsAnalSatan's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
So after speaking with the production side of this little project, it looks like to have production costs low so they'll be at a reasonable price, it looks as if we're going to have to produce around 30 so that we can sell them at ~$50 Canadian each. So would you guys that are interested in buying one of these weights be willing to pledge to a Kickstarter or Indiegogo so that we can get concrete numbers and go into production? The only additional thing that would have to happen is I'd have to contact you to pay a second time for shipping as prices fluctuate from shipping inside Canada and outside so I wouldn't include shipping in the Kickstarter price. -

Custom Turntable Weights
FangsAnalSatan replied to FangsAnalSatan's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
That's totally fair, as I said, a representitve from Pro-Ject said the weight would be no problem for the motor. As well I've been using my a 1lb one for over two years on my Pro-Ject Carbon and there hasn't been anything noticeable. With that said, the weight of the turntable weight is not set in stone. -
Custom Turntable Weights
FangsAnalSatan replied to FangsAnalSatan's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Oh. Well the goal is to create a nice weight that isn't too expensive. My goal is to have them be at a very accessible price, but that will all be determined by how many people want one and what the exact specifications are. I'm shooting for each weight to cost under $50 Canadian. -

Nothing may very well come out of this, depending on interest. And in regards to the weight - I spoke with someone from Pro-Ject and they said that a 1lb weight wouldn't put any strain on the belt drive. ... So you want them expensive? -
I've been chewing over this idea for a while. How many of you guys would be interested in getting a hand made, metal turntable weights? I have the means to produce some and I'm looking to gauge how interested you'd all be. They'd be a milled 1lb aluminum weight that would be produced to order. The price of them is still undetermined, but depending on interest I could definitely give concrete numbers. For those wondering it'd look something like this spinning on a turntable. I could always take a picture of it still if anyone is interested. PM me if you're interested!

I'm waiting for a Funeral repress. -
Was there a need for Carved In Stone? A record store I go to regularly still has OG copies still.

The only thing weak about that setup is the turntable, I personally would replace that as soon as I could. That's a great amp and Mission make great entry level speakers. Depending on the condition of everything I say that's a pretty good deal.
