I took some courses in administrative assisting and one whole class was for resume writing. Basically you want to keep it to one sheet if possible and no one cares about your civic duties or volunteering or interests or an objective statement. It's tempting to put every remotely relevant job you've ever had, but stick to the meat n' potatoes. Save the rest for the application. Good luck.
