Basically the right answer but the wrong reasoning. 300mm is the diameter not the height but nevertheless acrylic platters on any table are designed to be used without a matt otherwise it defeats the object of using an acrylic platter in the first place. The Project ones from memory are designed so that you just fit it as a replacement for the original platter and matt although they do include a felt matt with new tables that already have an acrylic platter even though you don't need it just to add confusion.

Apart from Banquet and Rough Trade head for Berwick Street which is just off of Oxford Street, It was the record shop mecca in London for years and is the picture on the front of the Oasis What's the story morning Glory album sleeve. There are still 2 shops on Berwick Street itself and at least 3 more in the surrounding roads. Berwick Street is the most central with Rough trade out of the west end a little and Banquet quite a way out in Kingston, there also used to be a good 2nd hand record shop in Kingston but I'm not sure if he's still there. Also head to Camden Lock if you want to see London's alternative side at its best, there are a couple of stalls inside the market and at least one shop on the way up to the market from the tube station. Camden is also great for food, beer and music pubs. Apart from that there's Ronnie Scotts and the 100 Club which are must see's even if nothings on and more venues, good pubs and restaurants than you can shake a stick at in London. And if you are in London on the 1st or 3rd Friday of the month there is a record fair in Spittlefields Market which is always worth a look, it's also on some Saturdays but I'm not sure which and that are in general is also good for food, beer and music and is also pretty close to Rough Trade Enjoy but remember you've got to get all those records and all the other shit you buy home.

By 12" I mean an arm that is 12" long, most turntables use arms that are 9" long as in your 1210. And to be honest the 1210 is average generally but compared to the SP10 it's a different world so if the 1210 is your level I have a feeling you're probably going to need to spend some serious money on high end amplifiers, tonearm/cartridge and speakers to get the best out of your SP10. I don't know what the rest of your system is so i could be wrong on this but as @AGB suggested you might want to think about selling it on, you will get serious money for it that you could use to upgrade all of your system to a higher level. It's much better to have a system that is all of similar quality rather than having one bit that is stunning as the rest will drag that stunning thing down not it drag the rest up.

Nice table, well done. What you have there is a broadcast table of very high standard and the only really seriously good table that Technics made. They made some very nice tables but this is way up the quality tree so worth spending some money on That's the good news but the bad news is finding a plinth for it will be difficult at best. Your best bet would be to find a stone mason who will make one out of marble for you and spend the money to do it properly. Any decent quality arm will do the job and in use it would have generally been partnered with either an SME or an EMT but anything of that quality will do the job and ideally it needs to be a 12" arm so again spend the money and do it properly. Technics did make an arm for it which is pretty good but not SME or EMT nice and probably harder to find. And lastly have you got the power supply with it? it's a separate unit and without it the table won't be a lot of use to you.

I wasn't going to but I'm in a facebook group that contains a few high end audio engineers and designers and it was discussed to death yesterday so I thought I'd share anyway, someone was bound to sooner or later and as it's an utter pile of bollocks from my neck of the woods I thought it my responsibility. It's been in development for 5 years and they were a little surprised when someone I know pointed this out to them, as did I and another few people, the shock must have got them spinning in their beards. I'm assuming the arm is far too long so that there is enough arm there to allow you to bend it to get the correct tracking angle. Everything else to be fair looks ok and if it's just a mockup I would hope they'd at least try and make it look right but if they are going to completely balls up one of the fundamentals of vinyl record replay then I don't hold out a lot of hope for the rest of it. Thanks It does sound nice, your grease bearing is the one you're supposed to have though and I really do regret selling mine so you've got the right one there, the later 301's and 401's are basically the same and it's more cosmetic changes but all of them sound very nice. Mechanically and electrically mine is perfect and just needs a clean and lubrication but cosmetically there are issues so my plan is to strip it back down, replace the trim, redo the chassis (I might do it piano black as the original colour is difficult to obtain, re finish the plinth in a much darker colour and round the corners off, re finish the platter, get a decent platter mat for it and make a new armboard for it out of acrylic and then work out what to do arm wise, but some or all of that will probably change as the mood takes me. The good news is that so many have been done now there are lots to get ideas from regarding how I want it to look

Sprocket at the back and chain ring at the front as in attached to the chain set, that's how I've always referred to them although that might be road bike terminology that pre dates the hipster in which case it needs a more hipster name in that context @Korgull Of Morgoth post pretty much nailed it so I don't think I need to reply to the OP's questions and where is that record shop in the last picture? @shaizada with his Garrard has garnered me into action so I bought a plinth for mine and assembled it with it's SME. I'll give it a run for a couple of days to check it's all ok then strip it down and re finish the plinth, service the turntable and make another arm board so that I can put my unknown arm on it when I modify it as a 12" arm. Still a fair amount of work but at least my idler drive is idle no more, it's been sitting around here doing nothing for too long.

OK thanks for that exhaustive and interesting report @slinch, that answered a lot of my questions and in summary it's not intended for high end and is a cool looking but basically functional and expensive gimmick. I like the funnel idea and what they are doing is focusing the field to a point with sufficient strength to hold the reference point for the spindle and why there is no tolerance in it. This does mean it's limitations are still in the areas I thought it might be though like physical and speed stability, overcoming the effect of those coils on speed will be difficult and the human ear is very good at picking up fluctuations in speed and its limitation of not being able to use a MC cart but as you say it knows it's place and it's market along with it's potential client. There is some very good engineering in this thing and some of it may have applications elsewhere so for that alone it's a lot more credible than all the other gimmick turntables of recent years and a very worthwhile exercise. I still like it even though it's obviously aimed at the facial topiary loving Bose owner and I could see me buying one used from someone who has got bored with it to show off to people with as a gimmick but at it's new price it's just too much gimmick for me unfortunately. That said from a marketing point of view they have to aim it at people who are likely to value the gimmickry over performance otherwise they are not going to sell many so I have to give them a thumbs up for that as well.

Have you sorted this yet? I couldn't decide so I ended up ordering from Amoeba and FYE and had them shipped to my parents in NC, I won't see them until next summer at the earliest but they can sit there with the others until I get over or my parents decide to have all their mates over for a party and play all my records. The biggest problem for me will be stopping myself buying a black vinyl copy here.

Another question to ask @slinch, if it's magnetically driven what effect will those magnets have on either a MM or MC cartridge over time and will they limit signal output

I get the idea but still struggle to see how it will not deviate from centre more than a conventional bearing and spindle, and how that won't cause the odd tracking error. e.g. Will the stabilising force be strong enough for it to cope with an off centre record? I think it will be great if it does work reliably but there are a few things that worry me stability wise

You have me intrigued, I expect a full report in triplicate on my desk the morning after the show. Although I have a horrible suspicion this ones going to be as cack as all the rest I'd actually like to see this one work because: A) it looks interesting I like the engineering process they are going through C) I can see a valid reason for what they are trying to overcome from a engineering problem solving perspective D) Did I mention I like the look of it? I am concerned about both physical and speed stability though as these seem the obvious issues so I'd be interested in what floor and furniture it's sitting on and how well you can lightly nudge it when in use without making the people responsible for it scream. Speed stability should be easier to overcome than physical platter stability as levitation is usually over a small point in relation to mass rather than a relatively large one like this platter and also how do you keep it exactly centered?

That sums me up quite well as well, I don't know about covered but there are not many flat surfaces in my house that don't have a turntable on, the Dining table and toilets are about it and the Dining table has been brought into service as a temporary work area on occasion when my wife has been out. And that Garrard still needs a SME on it, to a British man for that not to be so is an affront to Queen and Country. We Brits don't get jingoistic about much but a Garrard without a SME well it's just not cricket.

It's nothing new, this sort of thing was about back in the 70's, I've owned a Garrard MRM101 music recovery module and there were others from people like SAE I expect this will work a little nicer than the old ones, which actually worked surprisingly well but did take away a bit more than just the pops and clicks and I will reserve judgement on this until I hear one but like anything that processes the signal electronically I expect it will take something away along with the pops and clicks. The old ones employed a sort of delay and very early sampling where they put back a note or so where the click or pop was
