  1. Don't be that guy. Everyone already knows you like the band, you are at their show. Same thing for listening to a band before you see them. Why would you do that? You're going to hear them play the songs in a little while.
  2. I don't think ticket prices are that high or unreasonable unless you're going to see Weezer or Pearl Jam or some classic rock act. If I didn't live close to the venues and couldn't skip out on fees, I'd agree that the prices are too high. I think the complaint is more to do with ticket fees than ticket prices.
  3. I was very stoked to get 2 tickets to the St Paul's show. It's a trip to get there but I think it will be well worth it. I saw them back in '02 or '03 and it was easily one of the top 10 shows I've ever seen.
  4. so according to you, unless i blindly support everything that the United States does, I'm anti-American? sidenote: do you know ANYTHING about the situation that happened under the Carter and Reagan administration in Afghanistan? You are misrepresenting me. I never said one had to blindly support everything in the US. I said they have not opted out of taking money from countries that harbor terrorists. The man in question Imam Abdul Rauf is anti-American because he put the blame on the US for Islamic terrorists killing 3,000 people and refuses to not take money from nations that do not dissuade terrorists.
  5. So when a terrorist says "I am killing Americans for this reason" and the leader of the Mosque says "I don't agree with what they're doing but this is why they are doing it" it is being anti-American? Was he being anti-American when he was working WITH the CIA? Also the Saudi money that's funding this is coming from the Saudi prince who is a majority share holder in the company that owns Fox news. You would know this if Fox had the balls to say who the boogie man they keep talking about is. It's not like there's a list of donors. Terrorists and Islamic radicals could be very well be funding the project. And yes, it is an anti-American statement to blame America and point the finger at her for 9/11.
  6. Looks like someone listens to Sean Hannity. Seriously, working a job where I have to listen to talk radio all day raises my blood pressure, but it also makes it sooooooo easy to call out lazy assholes who just regurgitate whatever the talking heads tell them. Also: So half the people who oppose it don't even think they should have the right to? Fuck. That. Bullshit. You can't get 100% of America to agree on anything. Here's an analogy for you. Say there was a group of rogue Target employees that got together because they hated Americans and and caused all sorts of violence. Then they blew up a building and killed 3,000 Americans. Would anyone want them to build a Target down the street from this destroyed building? And oh yeah, the money to build this new store partially comes from stores who harbor other rogue Target employees. This is a ridiculous analogy but you get the point. The leader of the group, who he takes money from, and the anti-American venom he imbues is what disgusts me the most.
  7. Of course it's legal to build a mosque near Ground Zero but that doesn't make it right. Did you know the builder is accepting money from Saudi Arabia and Iran? Or that Imam Wahaj put blame on the US for 9/11 two weeks after it happened? Yes, don't blame the terrorists that killed 3,000 innocent people. Would it be cool if the Japanese built a temple at Pearl Harbor in the 50s? Just because they have the right to do it doesn't make it right. I think it's telling that 63% of New Yorkers oppose the mosque while only 27% support it. This isn't a question of if it's against the law. More than half the people who oppose it acknowledge that the builders have the right but would not like to see it built.
  8. I don't know all their song titles, but when I saw them in the Spring they played some new stuff like mentioned above and mostly a mix of old songs. Only a few off of Stay Positive. I'm stoked to see Wintersleep on this too.
  9. Its safest to drill nowhere and poor money in to viable alternatives, vehicle engine reduction, better fuel standards, etc. The USA has enough access to solar power to power the entire world. Wind farms are insanely safe. Further, speaking about just motor vehicles, the average person only drives about 30 miles/day and could get all of that, with ease, from a totally electric car. How about instead of talking about needing to drill here, drill now - which by the way won't reduce costs at all - we talk about drill nowhere, drill never and get involved with alternatives. Oh and lets not get in to all the wells BP has its not using. Solar power is great and I think we should invest more money it, but right now it is much too expensive to be considered a viable resource for the entire economy. For the time being, the US has to drill so why are we not doing it in Alaska instead of 5000 feet underwater?
  10. It's indirect and sensational saying that it's the environmentalists fault. But the bigger issue brought up is that it's safer to drill for oil on land or shallower (ie ANWR) than it is to drill in the deep ocean.
  11. Since you can't read... The show was not cancelled and was never going to be cancelled. The bands all agreed to play acoustic sets if the power never came back on, meaning they were fulfilling their part of the contract so no refunds were being given. Had they not played, I'd still have to pay them, and seeing as how I'm buying a house, that would have been tight in my bank account. But the power did come back on and soty and anberlin played full sets and everyone was happy. Nice try in spinning what I said though, I only made this thread because fred and andy were amazing acoustic and super nice about everything, a band everyone should check out and support if they can. They help kept kids happy while we sat with no power for over and hour or so. So go fuck yourself I didn't spin it; it was a hypothetical. IF the show was cancelled, you would have kept the kids money so you can spend the money personally. That is not right. Thankfully, the bands were willing to perform and the power came back on. But IF that didn't happen, you keeping the kids' money would have been a poor and malicious way to handle it.
  12. wait...so you were going to keep the kids' money even if the entire show got cancelled? just because you need to buy a house? That's ridiculous.
  13. I like the album. This band never ceases to impress me. Each album is something new and not more of the same. Highly Refined Pirates will probably always be my favorite but Planet of Ice was awesome too. To the guy who said he can't relate to the lyrical content. The lyrics are still about sex and drinking/drugs just like they've always been.
  14. This used to be my favorite band but they're just going through the motions now. I sold my tickets last year (for quite a profit) when I found out they were playing the same songs in the same order but less a 15 minute song from the previous tours. Band should hang it up.
  15. I will definitely be seeing Lemuria twice that week. Just like last year around that time! The Club Hell show might be my favorite lineup of the year.
  16. I have a pair of skull candy ear buds and I like them. I would not get them if you plan to use them while exercising though. They fall out way too easily when I'm running. Try to find ear buds/headphones that have that over the ear thing to keep them in place
  17. 9 American dates? At least a couple should be in the Northeast. Maybe they'll say when I see Silver Mount Zion next month. I could see them playing the HOB in Boston.
  18. This is a consequence of rushing and slamming the bill through and everyone not having a chance to carefully read the bill. How can this not be adequately addressed in the bill? "Under the new law, insurance companies still would be able to refuse new coverage to children because of a pre-existing medical problem, said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the main congressional panels that wrote the bill that Obama signed into law Tuesday." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100324/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_overhaul_children_s_coverage_3
  19. This is irrelevant. MA is the blueprint for the bill. No one is talking about Hawaii because the bill is not modeled after Hawaii, nor is it working there economically. From the NYT article, "And there is growing evidence that as the economy has slowed and premiums have risen, employers have hired more part-time workers who are ineligible for benefits." And from a slightly more non-partisan source than the NY Times (the Associated Press): "Citing Budget Shortfalls, Only State With Universal Coverage Eliminates Funding After 7 Months" http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/17/health/main4527996.shtml "Hospitals in Hawaii report $150 million in ’07 losses" http://www.mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/510177.html%3Fnav%3D5031 And again, Pres. Obama is not holding up Hawaii (or MA) as an example.
  20. I'm all for gradual reform, but I'm still waiting for the liberal friend or liberal pundit to point out how well universal health care is going for Massachusetts. The costs are out of control and much higher than anticipated and the premiums for MA are the highest in the country. Shouldn't we be using the first state to implement universal health care (which shares all the major tenets of the federal bill on a smaller scale) as a shining example?
  21. There's some good things about this bill but most of it is lousy. Has there ever been a federal entitlement program that didn't get screwed up and run into financial problems (Social Security, Medicare, Welfare etc.)? Insurance under your parents until your 26? Yeah sounds great except for the cost of it and the unintended consequence of encouraging young people to not get a job. Why get a job when one of your biggest concerns (health care) is accounted for? Look at Massachusetts. Wait, no one is saying look at Mass even though we instituted a similar form of universal health care a couple years ago. No one's premiums have gone down. The costs have skyrocketed and they are now figuring out how to drop people from the program because it has gone way over the initial estimates. And this was a state where a high percentage of people already had insurance. It takes longer to get to a specialist in Canada and Great Britain than it does in the US. Our wait times will go up considerably. There's even polls out (published in New England Journal of Medicine, pretty reputable source) that say some doctors might retire rather than be told how to treat patients and get less money from gov't health care. Yet another unintended consequence. If you put 30 million more people in to the pool and keep the doctors the same or less, something has to give. And don't say we're already paying for it in ER visits for those people. Less than 3% of the health care cost is from ER visits. And only 12% of ER visits are not urgent. Most people who use ERs have insurance. http://www.slate.com/id/2247051/ Gradual reform should be taking place. Let insurance companies compete over state lines, force insurance companies to treat existing conditions etc. Then if that is not producing the desired result, more expansive changes can take place.
  22. Wow, he really let himself go. If you're over 3 bills, it doesn't matter if you need a seatbelt extension or not, you are spilling into the other seats. Kind of weird how he always buys two tickets to avoid having to make conversation with people next to him.
  23. Damn. This is the same night as Thursday/Converge/Touche Amore. Haven't seen Comeback Kid in forever and Set Your Goals and Title Fight are always fun.
  24. This band can do no wrong. Each album they evolve their sound and pull it off.
  25. This definitely sucks. Maybe ticket prices will go down slightly (so they say) but surcharges will probably increase. All the other sites, tickets.com or ducatking don't have small fees either. It can still be 25-40% of the ticket price. I buy almost all my tickets at the box office nowadays unless it is a show that will sell out the day it goes on sale. Also, I really hope this doesn't mean all tickets will be those ridiculous jumbo Livenation tickets.
