  1.

So what you're telling me is that it's exactly the same as discogs with the added ability to sell DVDs, as in movies?

Actually, what he's telling you is it's exactly the same as discogs, because Discogs lets you sell all of those as well as DVDs.

Here's an example of a DVD for one of my favorite live performances, with 2 for sale. http://www.discogs.com/Ben-Folds-and-WASO-Live-In-Perth/release/666429

  2. Music Hall isn't a brand we get in the UK but isn't there a tie up with Creek? The music hall website sends you to the Creek website as well and the electronics certainly looks very Creek in the same way most of the turntables seem to be Project's badged as Music Halls.

My understanding is Music Hall is the central distributor for Creek in the US but they are definitely separate companies, and you're right about the appearance similarities with Creek. Just an assumption, but I wouldn't be surprised if they share a manufacturing plant or an origin story together. They were only founded two years apart (Creek '83 and Music Hall '85). And I was just reading up on Creek's history to see if it says anything, and there's a note:

"In 1995 Creek’s USA distributor Music Hall ordered a miniature vinyl disc amplifier to be made in a small case. Roy Hall, Music Hall’s president, christened it the OBH-8 and from there the OBH range increased to include phono pre-amps, headphone amps, remote controlled pre-amps, plus a 24 bit D to A converter."

So definitely a lot of shared history together.

  3. I'm debating that Music Hall, but the shipping from HI is expensive :/. Still a bit cheaper than buying it new.

There is another for $20 cheaper, and there is also this (which may be pickup only):

I actually think that Music Hall is new, it's a Dealer Ad, and says it comes with warranty.

Edit: woops just read the show sample, 3 days old. Duh.

  4. From the photos I think that's just the plain old Creek Evo, then there was the Evo 2, then the Evo 50a, then Evo 50a2 being the newest. I heard an Evo 2 once and wasn't overly impressed. I haven't heard the 50a, but the 50a2 sounded fantastic. I was actually looking for a good used one and it was new enough I didn't have much luck, and stumbled on the Brio in my search.

  5. See it's the opposite for me, I'm more comfortable buying expensive stuff used than I am cheap stuff. Someone who can afford a $1k piece of audio equipment and taking the time to sell on an audio-exclusive website tend to take great care of their stuff, and selling because they bought something better.

My experience with audiomart and audiogon are generally helpful people that are excited to see their beloved equipment go to someone else who is excited to upgrade to it, just as they once were. And think of it this way, as long as you pay with PayPal you're pretty damn protected if something is wrong.

  6. I had an A-S500 and the sound was pretty good for the price, but the preamp was pretty lackluster. It didn't take me long until I bought a Cambridge 651p to pair with it and made a huge improvement.

How much are you looking to spend on it? I was able to find a great condition Brio-R for only $150 more than I sold my used A-S500 for, and then sold my 651p for enough that I made money stepping up to the Brio - and holy shit was it was an incredible step up.

Can't speak on the A-S700 but I'd suggest keeping your eyes open for a good deal on a used integrated that's a step up (like the Rega Brio, or I almost pulled the trigger on a Cambridge 651a and Creek 50 for reasonable prices too until I finally found a Brio).

  7. Condescending, sure. There's nothing arrogant or conceited about pointing out that you feel the need to create a new topic for every single question you have related to what amounts to your very first set up and could have 100% been localized to one topic that already exists (beginner's guide to hi-fi), or even just the first topic you created about picking a table.

  8. you can think whatever the hell you want.  I could care less about the last five pages of whining about not getting free stuff.  when I started looking at the thread from the Sale post forward, it looks like a mix of multiple conversations.  without the benefit of reading back, not something I am interested in doing considering it seems to be 5 pages of b.s., i did think sale orders were being canceled.  Total internet fail!! OMG!

    Hi, welcome to the internet.
