Hitting shuffle defeats the purpose of carefully crafting new sequences.
For instance, I think something like Quovis -> Sealawn -> Further Up -> Waking Season -> Further In could actually work REALLY well, because of the ways that those songs begin an end.
Especially the end of Waking Season into Further In... they could let that thing build and build and set up some loops with manic guitars, kind of the way they do for the end of Sycamore before they all go to the drums, and then out of the ether comes the drumbeat for Further In.
Also, back to the topic sort of at hand... it looks like I've finally found a copy of the colored version of "The Quietest Place On Earth" from someone on Discogs. yaaaaay!

They have the perfect tone on that record too... I love how with all the speed picked parts, you don't really hear the pick attack; it's almost like a swarming guitar cyclone that just kind of spins the strings and coils up the darkness and brooding atmosphere to just kind of gently wash it over you. It's hulking and oppressive, but it moves gradually, giving you a sense of calm and mitigating the fright of impending doom, meanwhile itself secretly knowing that it's going to completely smother and engulf your entire being.
Listened to Nord this morning, too. Great album, but Ausserwelt is just a fucking titanic beast of a masterpiece.
I think I'm with you on the vocals thing for these guys, too. Wasn't thrilled with the performance on Nord. Music is wayyyy different too.
And its funny... I never checked these guys out, always thinking they were a black metal band haha

Caspian is one of my favorite bands too, and just because you've been listening to them longer and have a bigger collection doesn't mean your approach to them is any more correct than mine or anybody else's.

You're absolutely correct in that their fanbase is quite honestly THE FUCKING WORST.
I'm in a shitty place, because I love their music, and fucking hate the scene. So many people disregard the music and talk over the band. They spent $70 to have some cool hip background noise to their conversations and attempts at picking up chicks. You guys don't even WANT to know about rage sticks/rage totems. It's seriously the worst.
Matt, you're probably right. It's probably just greediness haha. But I think it goes back to what I'm used to; your formative concert years were spent engaged in a different paradigm than mine were. It's just a different approach.
The thing with the jamming is that, yeah, it can be aimless noodling, but when they get it right and catch the magic, holy shit it's the most brilliant, triumphant fucking thing imaginable. And that's the point: it's elusive. They're taking a risk. Sometimes, its fucking terrible. More often than not, it's great, and those few handfuls of times, its fucking transcendent and heavenly. THAT is what they're after.
But again, we're used to different things. Neither of which are bad, they're just different.
And don't try to hit me with some snide condescending remark that I didn't "bother" to see them on this last tour, dick

Who gives a fuck? He obviously wasn't being directly talking about gay people with the use of that word. Nobody uses that word to actually refer to gay people. At least that's the case where I live/grew up. Gay people are cool. Faggots aren't gay people.
