the pumpkins song rips, snot rips - and for different reasons at that, so who cares?
It was merely an observation, not a complaint or diss.

edit: wait smashing pumpkins is kinda good why did no one ever tell me this
Lol. Yes Gish and Siamese Dream are amazing, even if some of the singles got overplayed in the 90s. "Today" was one of them - it stood out to me as a favorite when I first got the album and before it was a single, then it totally changed after I heard it a bunch of times on its own. Same thing happened with RHCP's "Under the Bridge", it became something different and less special after I started hearing it all the time. But back to Smashing Pumpkins, thankfully they didn't have too many singles from that album and many of the tracks remain magical. Start with Gish and Siamese Dream.

I've listened to this album a few times over the past week, good stuff. First album I've heard of his, and it reminds me a lot of someone else - I think it might be Bored Nothing, who reminds me of Elliott Smith.
There's one song, "Snot", that reminded me of a specific song from another artist, but I couldn't put my finger on it...until today.

Well strangely enough the end of sale on a few items ended up making me pull the trigger, since I jumped into the free shipping bracket. I got:
Television - Marquee Moon
Rodriguez - Cold Fact
The Zombies - Odyssey & Oracle
-
I also took advantage of the Hastings deal. Contemplated a shopping cart with 5-6 items all day, then finally pulled the trigger on 3.

This is having a dangerous effect on my bank account.

I was focusing on his solo output. I like Slaughterhouse a lot. Didn't like Hair at first but it really grew on me recently. Helps that White Fence's latest is killer - I didn't connect with his earlier output. Though I've yet to hear Cyclops. No Slaughterhouse? hair?

Yes, Manipulator was by far his best solo release. As well as my favorite record of 2014.
Woah woah woah. BY FAR? I mean I liked Manipulator a whole lot, but Twins? Melted? Come on now.
Alright alright, to be fair I decided to revisit Ty's previous work and I might have been a bit unfair.
I first discovered Ty with Melted, and while I liked the album and loved tracks like "Girlfriend" and "My Sunshine", it was a lot more lo-fi than a lot of the music I was listening to at the time. I guess it was my first dive into "real" garage rock revival. Subsequent albums were a little hit or miss, and it wasn't until Manipulator came out that all of his past efforts culminated into something that truly impressed me, that I was able to rate more than 3.5 out of 5 stars (4.5, specifically). I spent a lot of time with the album in 2014 and 2015, hardly revisiting older material since its release.
But now I have revisited most albums in the past week and can be a little more fair. Ty Segall and Lemons are better than I remember them being. I ended up actually liking Melted less after listening to those two again - save for those two aforementioned tracks that are really great. Truth is, it's a more varied album than the first two and even though it's the one I've known the longest, I owe it a bit more attention to fully appreciate. Goodbye Bread remains relatively subdued and while enjoyable, has never made much of a lasting impression on me. Then this morning it was Twins time, and I finally bit my tongue - this one's really good, runner up for sure. I was also planning to listen to Sleeper today but realized I forgot to put it on my mp3 device before leaving home today (and it's not on Spotify). I did revisit that one relatively recently though as I picked up a used copy on vinyl a few months back - but it's sort of like Goodbye Bread in its lack of energy and standout tracks. Making its successor Manipulator that much more impressive. What also made it impressive was how solid it is despite its length. Most albums over 50 minutes have some filler and or simply don't have the stamina to be that long - but this one doesn't have those problems.
But still, I stand corrected and while it's my favorite up to now, he's put out some quality stuff leading up to it. Just not with the same consistency to me.

Crap well I missed the "sale" on the Zombies one then. But hey at least that puts me in the free shipping category if I get the other 2 I was considering. Also sucks they tax even though there are no Newbury stores in my state as far as I'm aware.
That Faith No More album link isn't working and I can't find it on the site. It's not my favorite FNM album, but I like it. Not $29.99 like it though, especially considering I don't have any of the others on vinyl either.

Wow, excellent news! I found out earlier today that he was touring under this band name, and added the show to my calendar. I was surprised since he had called it quits, and certainly didn't expect a new release along with it.
I don't love the new song, particularly the repetitive "woah oh woah oh oh oh oh" vocals, for some reason they seem a little bit pop-emo to me. But I'm a huge Rob and Pinback fan so I'll go ahead and pull the trigger on this. If nothing else, to support his contributions to music thus far.
I wish I could like this post but for some reason there's no like option.

New episodes are up the same day on HBO Go. You don't gotta wait 24 hours like you do with wack ass Hulu.
Right, I've just never known what day of the week it airs. And still don't.

Been enjoying this, watched episode 6 yesterday (Nashville). I liked the premise of the episode but I didn't enjoy it all the way through to be honest. It felt awkward, as I'm sure was intended. I don't know it just rubbed me the wrong way compared to other episodes so far. Awkward instead of funny.

I really dig this show! Been watching since the first season and I too think season two is a little better, probably because I'm less in the dark about things. Looks like there might be a new episode I need to catch up on (I watch through HBO GO).

I've been wanting to pick up that Zombies album for a while, might need to snag this trippy variant.https://www.newburycomics.com/collections/vinyl-lucky-13
13 new re-issues. might grab that pinata. the colors on the zombies album is pretty dope too.
shipping is free over $75, but all the albums are $24.99 making 3 of them 3 cents short of free shipping. cunts
That's terrible. And typical.

It's one 45 second song and then 8 instrumental tracks of droning noise and repeating loops with no melody, vocals, or conventional build. You might like it if you're into noise or experimental music but it was pretty crappy that this was advertised as a PC EP with no mention of the drastic genre change or even the all instrumental nature of it.
First I've heard of this sounding "different". I thought it was releasing last Friday but apparently the new release date is November 27. I was planning to stream it anyway, but that's interesting to hear.

That's interesting because this album sounds way more The National than it does Menomena. I love both bands, and I really like the album.
The vocals are clearly those of The National, but musically this feels considerably more lively and a bit electronic, which sounds like Menomena to me. Maybe The National has more upbeat material than I'm aware of.
-
Great album, but I'm not hard pressed to own it on vinyl at the moment. Just wanted to show my support.
-
I'm not a fan of The National but I like Menomena and I've been digging this album.

Pre-ordered Emotional Mugger.

I remember the pre-Napster 90s when this was out of print and only one person in my circle of friends had a CD-R of this album. No one had CD burners at the time so we would pass it around, often wondering who actually had it and waiting months before it actually surfaced. No one ever made a copy due to the lack of CD burners. I guess we could have made tapes. Maybe we did. I eventually purchased the CD reissue in 2004.

Yes, Manipulator was by far his best solo release. As well as my favorite record of 2014.
