  1. No sweat - the band's wording wasn't as clear as it should have been and when it was first announced, I searched for the announcement in many different places hoping for some clarity.

The chances of finding a blue one on RSD are probably higher than a few weeks later, yes, but of course some stock didn't sell right away, and the "initial run" may not have been shipped all at once for RSD either. But still, the chance of finding a blue one new in store likely does decrease with time.

    semantics

    assumptions

    wishful thinking

    disappointment

Pleasure in knowing the music is great regardless of color.

  2. I'm surprised there isn't more activity in this thread, for a music forum. Do we care more about buying than listening? I've really enjoyed this type of thread on other forums as a way to pick up on new things - as well as spread the word about things I'm enjoying, of course.

Eddy Current Suppression RingEddy Current Suppression Ring (2006)

Some garage rock/punk from Melbourne, Australia I recently discovered by way of Total Control, a more post-punk oriented band sharing some members. First time playing this one, it's quite raw.

  3. What I'm saying is that it was pretty clear that the initial run would contain 500 randomly-inserted blue copies. It was also clear that the vinyl version of the LP was being released early on RSD. But nowhere was it ever said that the 500 blue copies were RSD exclusives. I'm only stating that some folks selling on Discogs and eBay have probably made the assumption that because they purchased it on RSD, it's limited (and maybe blue).

  4. New song is great! Happy it's not a campfire song. I'm in the camp that treads lightly on pre-album singles and such, usually I'll have a quick listen and leave it at that until I can hear the whole album.

I've been a fan since [A-->B] Life and the I Never Said That I Was Brave EP and have never pre-ordered one of their releases. Bought them all on CD when they came out, except for Ten Stories which I don't actually own. I might get this one on vinyl, though $50 is steep.

  5. Where can someone in the US get the gold vinyl? I haven't seen any info about it except here.

Seeing FNM tomorrow, super excited! FNM's The Real Thing tour with Metallica and Guns n Roses was one of the first shows I ever asked my parents to go see. But I was 15 I think, and they didn't think it was a good idea. I didn't try to go to a show for a few years after that defeat, and by then (for some dumb reason) I had not kept up with FNM and didn't get a chance to see them on any future tours. I only regained interested and got their last two albums after they'd broken up. As we know, they never did a US tour after their reunion, until now, so this will be the first time I've ever seen them. Luckily I did catch Mr. Bungle on the California tour in '99.

  7. Damn, this thread turned out longer than I thought when I originally set out reading it.

I ordered near mint copies of Parlophone Kid A and Amnesic a few years back, and finally got to listen to them for the first time recently (Kid A last night). That's because I wasn't able to hook up a turntable until recently (hence my new member status). I can't compare them to Capitol pressings but I'm glad to have done the research back then. I also have the OK Computer Parlophone pressing, still sealed.

HTTT took a long time to grow on me. I bought the CD on release day in 2003, but don't own the vinyl. It's only in the last year or two that I started listening to it. Glad to hear the difference isn't as great as with the other 3 releases, though I'd still like to pick up the Parlophone pressing some day.

  8. I generally don't bother with RSD, although I do like to support local record stores in general. But for a new Built to Spill album release? I'm going. I REALLY REALLY want one of the transparent blue ones, and do wish it was a pre-order thing. Though there's a chance I would have missed that anyway, so perhaps this isn't so bad. One thing I wonder is if they're labeled as such, if there's any identifier that this one's blue and this one's normal. I also wondered, based on their wording, if those that pre-order could also end up with a blue one. It doesn't specifically say that the blue ones are limited to RSD, just that they're part of the first run. Anyway, I'm planning to go rather early on RSD in case they are identified as blue or not. I doubt they would be, but I don't know.

the album art though... seriously. It's got to be one of the worst in their releases. Maybe it'll grow on me.

The album cover isn't awesome, and it's very "internet", but I strongly disliked the cover for There Is No Enemy so this is somewhat refreshing to me. It's more light-hearted. Perfect From Now On and Keep It Like a Secret are really great covers - not just for BtS, but overall I've always really liked them.

  9. Great thread, makes a good home for my first non-introductory post. So essentially by saying fuzzy punk & indie we're really talking about Garage Rock and Garage Punk, right? Psych punk as well? I like a handful of the bands posted already, let's recap and add some. They're all over the place of course:

Fuzz (how was this not mentioned yet?)

    Melvins

    Viet Cong

Pile (not that fuzzy, but previously mentioned and I like them)
