How would not having a label (again, not what i asked) make the LP spindle hole so big the record is unplayable?

What I have seen on some used records: you could make it playable by either putting adhesive tape over the spindle hole and pushing the spindle through. Or by filling up the inners of the hole with a couple of layers of tape.

Might not be easy to find the exact spot so it will not be off-centered.

I think the other versions were pressed at a different plant, this was done by pirates press in ‘06. Pretty sure the label had them rushed so we could pick them up in Germany for a tour.

According to Discogs the clear variant was also pressed by GZ. Same matrix as the tour variant. I assume all variants were pressed there?

Said it was because there were no labels (not what was asked for) so the hole was too big.

It was not your request to press it without center labels? Do I misunderstand this? It was pressed by GZ, so no surprise the lack of QC.

I just would like to add that the purpose of center labels should not be underestimated, I think:

Records tend to warp if a label is missing on one side, e.g. on etched or single-sided records.

If labels have higher moisture it will cause pressing defects as well. That's why they need to go to an oven for drying before pressing.

Since your records do not have any labels at all, I would not be surprised about such an odd defect of a larger spindle hole. I could not explain the physical reason for it though.

I'm not a member of their vinyl club but it's baffling to me how it can go that way when you have you're own fucking vinyl press, literally. All of the new Metallica records are pressed on their own press. They have always been on the forefront when it comes to stuff like fanclub things with the fan cans back in the day etc. It's a bummer this didn't work out as planned.

From what I know: Metallica does not really own that record press. Instead they reserved pressing capacity for several years for all of their projects. Aside from the Metallica projects that press is being used for other artists' pressings. Of course it should not make a difference getting stuff done timely.

They didn't shipped anymore from germany. It's shipped from the US

You sure about that? Judging from the shipping costs ($8.99) to Germany I would say it will not be shipped from the U.S.?

Would it make sense orders are being fulfilled by Throatruiner Records in France (also managing the Deatwish EU shop with Relapse releases)?

Not Takt Direct..., they are pressed by Packaged Sounds who use the same cutting lathe as TD. I agree on sound and sleeve quality.

Thank you for this correction. Does Packaged Sounds own record presses or is it a broker/manufacturer and uses TD as the pressing plant? Or are the record presses co-owned/shared by both companies?

My fault on Leche Con Carne I thought I got it but I didn’t and they’re coming from Europe GZ as well. The Europe people got it a while back.

Forgot to check the Fat order statuses.

Yes, still coming from Europe but not from GZ anymore. Fat Wreck switched to Takt Direct. Way better quality - particularly the lacquer cut/mastering/sound which is terrible when cut in-house by GZ. But also the cover has a higher quality than the GZ ones.

Regarding paying seller fees immediately, I think that’s the more contemporary way to do it - I know eBay still invoices, but most selling platforms just take it out immediately.

eBay UK and Germany (probably their other divisions as well) have introduced immediate paying of seller fees in July. eBay is using Adyen now which processes all the payments for them.

So Discogs is following the eBay path again by doing that, too.

Resurrection time - 18 months later i finally got me a new deck after my SP10 mkii finally died. It was the main chip that you cant get a replacement for and not the PSU as i had hoped. Nevertheless, i replaced it with  an SL1200G. The SL1200G is brutal in that it really shows up a bad recording.

Sad to hear this. I would have never thought a Technics deck could become irreparable. Built like tanks. Losing an SP10 MKII is pretty tough. What a glorious deck that is...and pretty expensive. What are you going to do with the defective one?

Thanks for reviewing these pressings. I own the silver BK MOV one and love it, too.  It was cut pretty hot but also dynamically.

hmm. I guess I'll give it a few more days and then maybe send them an email.

Anybody else from the states grab it off the Euro site?

I ordered from the Euro site.

Check your order confirmation and the link to check your order status:

All items will be shipped on or before July 10, 2020

That was also the date announced when the item was up.

Can you point out the spots where you hear the overdubs?

You just might want to compare Mike's singing in these two videos. I'll give you some spots to start with below. In the audience video he often slurs some of the word endings while on the official video these can be heard very clearly. Also he stresses the lines a bit differently. On the official audio his voice does not even sound as "shot" as usually but more "polished".

    Audience Video (audience video)
    1:29 (Zero Feelings)
    1:44 (Human Nature)
    1:59 (Fear of Truth)
    2:14 (Learning From the Past)
    2:18 (Stagnation)

    Official Video
    2:37 (Zero Feelings)
    2:54 (Human Nature)
    3:08 ((Fear of Truth)
    3:22 (Learning From the Past)
    3:28 (Stagnation)

They probably redid it because of the orchestra. Wanted to make it sounds as good as possible for them.

Well, why not record it properly in a studio together with the orchestra and release that instead of releasing a "live record" which in fact it is not with that amount of production? I do not get that actually.  Make this release a bit pointless.

I think it sounds very underwhelming and too clean (which they do not sound like live). Just compare it to the "The Decline live in Montreal" recording which sounds a lot more true and exciting in regards to a "live feeling". Would have expected it more like that.

Oh yeah, and the video editing is horrible, too, I think.

  14. Colored standalone sold out at KRM EU now.

When I watched and listened to it I was pretty disappointed how they mixed and handled the audio. Too many voice overdubs and post-production. The overdubs become very obvious when you compare the fan videos filmed at that event to the official video. To my ears it completely lost any "live feeling" due to the massive post-production (which is hard to capture on a recording anyway). I have the same complaints with each release of the Live in a Dive series which suffer from that, too.

Pretty happy I did not order this. Although I stay curious about Linewleum on side B.

I'm in the same boat. Looks like the tracking info stops in Germany, and when it gets to the US, you're on your own. I've emailed the label a few times with no response. Is there anyone in the US that got their copies? Would be curious if it arrived via DHL or some other carrier.

    Thanks

I don't know which carrier that label used but have you tried to use the German DHL tracking number or Deutsche Post tracking number on the USPS website yet? Usually that works when I ship(ped) something to the U.S.

I think the DHL Germany or Deutsche Post tracking websites for your parcel should show a note about this on the right-handed side, too.
