  1. Never get rid of? None. They will all go sometime. Probably sooner than later. Chances are you are not keeping your fucking NOFX albums when you are 65.
  2. U Haul sell perfect size boxes that are super strong. I think they are the small size. I have moved with them three times and I have 3000 freaking records. They sell them in bundles and you can return unused ones.
  3. I am going to try to incorporate the phrase "pulling a Juan" into all my conversations.
  4. Did anyone pull a "Juan" and order more than three just in case we got another Axe to Fall on our hands? I did.
  5. So where are the Guidos on the Jersey Shore in relation to this store? Blown out hair, lifting weights, orange tans, fist pumping... I am fascinated by these humans. A perfect day sounds like record shopping and then watch the parade of Guidos and the women who love them. You guys are lucky.
  6. Nice! Thanks my man. I was able to pick up a Die Young - Loss Final show 7" and one of those rare as hell Integrity - Walpurgisnacht 7" on purple! Happy Black Friday Americans.
  7. I saw the post from CJ (who lives in the same city as I do), guessed the record store he went to and got myself a copy too. Thanks man! Turns out Melodiya only ordered two copies, so it is cool that VC board guys snagged the only two copies in Calgary! For now anyways until Sloth gets theirs.
  8. Hey Juan, Since you seem to be right on top of absolutely everything I want to order, plus our shared love of Converge and Blacklisted, and you seem to like my blog too - I figure you might as well call me at home collect, day or night, to keep in me in the loop! As far as the Lotus Eaters lp, it could have said $140 and wouldn't have blinked. I have been waiting for this for years.
  9. I have been waiting for this for 5 years! I was a little thrown by the change in artwork, but hey what's one more Manson family girl immortalized for all time? Maybe the next record can have a Squeaky Fromme cover!
  10. Right out of left field, I never saw this coming. I like surprises! http://www.hurryuphc.com/_search.php?ID=Bane
  11. Yeah, this happens almost daily to me. There is one assumption you are all making that ebay experience has shown is just wrong. The final price for a record let's say goes for $8.99. Everyone makes the assumption that the winning bidders highest bid was $8.99. Hmmm, probably not. Chances are if you got into it, the price would be driven up anyways. What if his/her final bid was $100? I try to make last second bids all the time. An item can be at $4.99 I will jump in with a bid of $60 with 4 seconds remaining and still lose because the original bidder had a very high bid in place just to avoid assholes like me sniping him! It's best to not think about it when an auction passes you by. Get it next time. There is always a next time.
  12. Hey yo! I just wanted to let everyone know that I started up a blog on record collecting called "We Will Bury You". http://doug-wewillburyyou.blogspot.com/ I am focusing on hardcore and punk records, new and old. I am throwing in some personal stories of the band or how I got the record, pressing information and lots of pictures too. Check it out and let me know if there is anything you would like to see. What works, what doesn't, etc. Yu, I'm counting on you man! I want to see some hits from you! Thanks.
  13. As requested. Here are some detail pics of the Dear You lp on black. No picture I took could pick up the matrix but it is Side 1: DGC-24831-A-GLI. Side 2: DGC-24831-B-REL and also Gateway/Masterdisk.
  14. I have this record. Black vinyl on Geffen (DGC) copyright 1995. I can safely say without any question: 1. It is not a bootleg. I bought it new from a local record store the week it came out and took off the shrink wrap myself. 2. It is an original US pressing. All matrix marks, labels, cover and inserts are straight up legit. 3. It sounds fucking fantastic. I see there is a lot of speculation going on about the authenticity, but I can straight up say an original press on DGC was on glorious BLACK vinyl.
  15. Forgot to mention, you really nailed it on most of your points, especially the need for first presses with some collectors. You could have expanded almost every paragraph into its own chapter as well. I really liked your conclusion section. It brought things together nicely.
  16. Well that was fun! Here are a few points I came up with while reading: Take into account the audience of who would be reading and grading the paper. You must not assume the intended audience has any concept of the musical genres you are discussing. Either define hardcore and metal right away or drop it down to "rock music". I know exactly where you are coming from, but not everyone will. Next, I think it would be interesting to add that the seminal US hardcore figures (MacKaye, Kevin Seconds, Cappo, Porcelly, etc) were open about record collecting, starting labels, releasing records and disclosing pressing information. This gave collectors a road map of what records were vital to be collected for the following generations of hardcore fans. The cover of Schism fanzine should be proof enough of that. I would also include on page 39-40 the use of the internet in the elitism of record collecting. Collectors can now brag about their collections on a global scale through "trade lists". Most completionist collectors have no intention of ever trading their collection. It is simply a place to post their collection and wait for the accolades. Spend enough time on VC and you can see that as plain as day. It might be something to mention that savvy record labels nurture and foster a culture of collecting by posting detailed discographies with pictures of all the color variants of a release. The visual asthetic of seeing what a rare pressing looks like and how many were pressed will generate excitement among collectors. It sure worked on me.

  18. Really???? Thursday - Full Collapse is that in demand? Hasn't it been pressed like three times with over 2000 each on the second and third presses? Or is this excitement for variant collectors as it has been on 8 colors already? I'm surprised.
  19. I'm up for it. Send me a message and we can started.
  20. $2950 right now and I feel 100% vindicated that I spent $3200 for mine last year. Recession? What recession?
  21. I guess from my point of view it kind of goes like this: The coolest hardcore label back in the day decide to release a limited record to make back some money they lost when the recording session at Chung King studio gets scratched. First we are going to only press 110 of them (originally 100 planned). Next we are going to hold on to 10 of them - just because. Next we are only going to give them out to the cool kids who are in the band, friends of the band, friends of the label or select cool guys from the NYHC scene. That leaves a few for people who mailorder regularily (back in the day before the internet when it required work) to land a few. Now we are going to track who has them. Years later, anyone who is lucky enough to score one not only lists what number they have but also states who the band member/scene guy they got it from. Repeat over the next decade and voila - the legend grows. Now if this story isn't the ultimate in "fuck you, you can't have one" I don't know what is.
  22. Most of the time, if it is on color, it will be in the description and they will jack the price because of it. Fire them an email.
  23. We need a roll call of who here is down with the Lord. I have a feeling most of the online fans are at Forever Doomed. And yes, I'm picking up the Weedeater.
  24. I have literally bought hundreds of records off GEMM. Major label UK stuff ends up being cheaper than ebay. Everything from Iron Maiden 12 inch singles, Bad Brains import singles to Bauhaus lps and Discharge singles, I have never had a problem. I keep to few few rules. First, don't sweat the shield thing, go with the feedback. That only means your payment is guaranteed through GEMM. For it they take up to 15% extra. Direct buying through the seller is fine. Just buy from sellers with 4 or 5 stars seller performance rating. Second, the postage rates are unreal. Try to combine shipping whenever possible by checking what else the seller has to offer. You may be surprised.
