Converting Cassette tapes onto Vinyl?
the industry replied to DJRick1985's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Is it possible? Yeah, I suppose. Many things are possible if you want it badly enough. Would anyone really want to? Doubtful. Converting a cassette tape to vinyl is essentially pointless, and would cost a lot of money just to make something that you probably wouldn't be happy with in the end. For one thing, there would be a significant decline in quality for all the steps involved to press vinyl from a cassette, which isn't a master quality source to begin with. That said, cassette's CAN sound quite good, if you have the right equipment. You're better off taking all that money that you would need to invest to convert it to vinyl and buy quality cassette deck components or speakers. See here: -
there are probably some that have them in-hand, as they went into the store physically and bought them. To your point, I'm sure they are not selling all of them online, and keeping some just for the store - I think that is what they usually do for their exclusives. That's why I said 250 or less - it's most likely less, but I'm speculating.

I was having the same issues but I finally got through after 10 minutes and multiple attempts. Keep trying, unless you want the shirt. -

The proven truth is that as much as I adore it, vinyl is still way more inconvenient than digital. -

The best way to assess an accurate price is to search on eBay for what something has sold for previously, and/or on Discogs - you can actually see how much copies of any record have went for in the past and see what the condition of the record was. Do not just go off of what other sellers are asking because oftentimes they are WAY out of line with reality, for various reasons that I don't really understand. I think a lot of peoples attitude is just price high and if it sells, good for me, and if it doesn't sell who cares. There are so many overpriced albums I have seen on eBay & discogs and while they NEVER go for these inflated prices, the sellers seem to never reduce or negotiate on the price, so it's a market stalemate essentially. Very frustrating.

if you want to ensure that they sell, than listing them on eBay as an auction with a low starting price is the best way to do that. That will essentially guarantee they all sell, and to me that is the real "market value" although you may be surprised that some go for much less than you hoped / thought they would. If you don't care about selling every record, and/or you want to make sure you get a minimum amount for them, than listing them on Discogs is the way to go. You can actually list them on both, just remember once a record sells on one platform, you need to take down the listing on the other.

Best/Worst Customer Service from a Distro/Label?
the industry replied to silentgods's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
My best customer service hands-down has been with Rough Trade UK, which I should probably just have my paycheck direct deposited to at this point. I do think when you spend a lot of money at one shop, they will really go the extra mile to help you out time and time again. -
They're just being cute and referencing ELO. I think it just means it's blueish in color.

my take: seems expensive, definitely too expensive for me, but hey I don't know what went on to get to that price (not to mention I'm not really a fan of the band, despite what you guys think) Doubt score - 8.7 / 10 yall's take: ZOMG WTF BBQ MONDO REISSUES R ONLY $35 THIS IS AN INSANE CASH GRAB THIS IS PRICE GAUGING Doubt score - 1.6 / 10

I never said $75 wasn't a lot of money, all I'm saying is you guys on a message board don't know the numbers happening behind the scenes when it comes to setting the price. From reading over the thread it appears that you have gotten word direct from someone in their camp speaking to why the price is high, and still you guys say it should be less, the price isn't justified, etc. etc. etc. I know I know, no-one can tell you guys anything. You're the great all-knowing unsung geniuses of the vinyl world, and anyone that says anything in opposition to you is a kool-aid drinking fan of the band and making excuses for them or whatever. That's fine. Carry-on gents. "The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt." Bertrand Russell

*farts* Mm-hmmmm. Like I said, I just love people that think they know everything. I'm just a FB group member just coming here to defend the band. You know me. You know EVERYTHING, don't you. You don't have to "accept" anything - if it's too much for you, then speak with your wallet and DON'T BUY IT. Or maybe you should start your own label and show us all how easy it is to put out a re-issue at a price that you find acceptable?

Higher prices cut down on scalping, plain and simple. Would you rather they price it at $25 and then most of the run get grabbed up by scalpers that turn around and then sell for even more? Yeah you might get lucky and get one at that price, but if you aren't lucky than your only other option will be to pay more if you really want one. Or, would you rather support a band you like, knowing that it's not like this "cash grab" (YOUR term not mine) is limited at only 1000 copies, not to mention that none of you know the deal that was struck and what demands WB put on the band. This way at least the money goes to THEM and not some random a-hole that was lucky enough to have a faster internet connection or whatever. I have no connection to this band but I do work in the industry and I buy a LOT of vinyl, and I understand why scalping happens. If you price items / tickets / whatever closer to what their real value is, scalpers won't enter into the equation. Then again preventing scalping or flippers may have nothing to do with this. I say it again - NONE of you know what demands WB put on the band or the deal that was struck behind closed doors for them to repress this. I know you all think you know better and blah blah blah, but the reality is you don't. Could Mondo have put this out at a better price? MAYBE, but then again Mondo is a much bigger operation that is actually in the business of putting out reissues, numerous ones every month / week. This one band only puts stuff out occasionally for THEMSELVES. They can't exploit efficiencies of scale or other things that Mondo or some other operation might be able to. And who knows, maybe they're 2 million un-recouped at WB and so the label sees this as a cash grab for THEM, and hence the higher prices. Sorry but I just LOVE people that think they know everything… I certainly don't. I can only guess the response this is gonna get. Flame on!
