  1. They are completely stupid, but hilarious nonetheless. When we finally convinced them we weren't going to buy the salesperson said, "I work on commission, this sucks you guys." Ha. We also scored a coupon for snorkling in a volcanic crater for cheap. Totally worthwhile. In Mexico you can sometimes get up to $350 to go to one.
  2. where in hawaii? Requests in Maui. I toured three islands there and this was the only thing that resembled a respectable music store. This place was rad and had thousands of unsorted vinyl in a leaky, smelly basement. Broke my heart.
  3. Everyone knows what a timeshare presentation is like, right? Essentially you get signed up to hear a sales pitch for a couple of hours in exchange for some money and whatever. Anyway... My gf and I were wandering around Hawaii and decided to go to a timeshare presentation. We were both genuinely curious but were more interested in the $100 giftcard and the three free nights in a US hotel (we are going to book San Francisco in the spring!) they were offering. So after getting our free shit (and not buying a timeshare - obviously!) we had no idea what to with our giftcard. We were leaving for Canada in a couple of days and were pretty sure we couldn't use it there. So we decided to blow the whole thing on records. We went to Hot Topic (don't have those here) and got: Minor Threat - Out Of Step Minor Threat - First Two 7"'s Circle Jerks - Group Sex Bad Brains - s/t (my choices) Guns 'n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction Misfits - Static Age Wu Tang - 36 Chambers Slayer - South of Heaven (pic disc) (gf's choices) Came out to $97. Nothing mindblowing but a lot of classic albums. But if anyone get's the chance, sign up for timeshares for the free shit. Totally worthwhile. Also, I am pretty sure they can track your purchases with those giftcards - I imagine someone somewhere is thinking to themselves "who the fuck spends $100 on records? We fucked up!"
  4. Nabbed a fat score in Hawaii! Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium The Bronx II (which I am looking to trade) for $25!
  5. Any takers for the Bronx II on white? I nabbed a used copy the other day and I already have a copy. I'm not looking for the world on this one, despite it going for $40+ on the 'Bay. Just something that tickles my fancy...
  6. are sum 41 records hard to come by-particularly Chuck?
  7. I might be up for that Turbonegro... would you do less for a pick up?
  8. I honestly like this album but when I listen to it I think I find it more interesting than good, if that makes sense.
  9. Have a cheap hotel for the first few days in Honolulu, after that, on a different island, possibly renting a car and sleeping in it. The Big Island looks like it has some hilarious hippy type places to crash for cheap. Found something on Craig's List where you can sleep in a VW van for $50. Ha.
  10. I thought about that honestly. But it would have cost an extra $400. And $700 round-trip from the middle of Canada to Hawaii is insane.
  11. I'd grab my hot blonde girlfriend. She's 1/1 and totally my white whale. : As for records, I like the idea of flight cases. I need to invest in some custom made ones.
  12. Awesome everyone... thanks much for your help. Obviously I am going to be spending most of my time driving mopeds (boyhood dream!), swimming with dolphins and whatnot. But, as a collector, I just can't help but look out for record stores/records. This is why there needs to be a website like deadformat, except instead of pressing info you upload info about record stores and can do searches by country/states, etc.
  13. Today, as it began to blizzard, I decided to buy a plane ticket to Hawaii for three weeks, just for the fuck of it. Does anyone have any info on record stores there (Oahu, Maui or the Big Island) or of any bands or shows or anything interesting someone should keep an eye out for? Any local beers that are good/bad/ugly?
  14. Whenever I read the word "lowball" I giggle. Actually, I titter.
  15. I don't like making offers on records. I often get a sense that the seller is looking for a certain number - something they should just post. And I, too, am sick of seeing nothing but Alkaline Trio/Everytime I Die/Against Me/Gaslight/etc. I guess they are popular or whatever but, for me, half the fun of collecting is finding the obscure, not collecting one of every colour of what everyone else already has. Sigh. I am so old.
  16. ps - according to my old recordnerd site, I wrote that the record was out of 410, but I think there have been other pressings. Mine is a 10" on black vinyl as well. Hope this helps.
  17. Try www.bistrodistro.com There's no info up on there but I believe Troy had something to do with putting it out. You could try contacting him about it.
  18. I would be upset paying $100 each on eBay for a repress - but I think what they are charging on the official website is fair. Buyer be warned I guess in any situation.
  19. Taken from www.thebronxxx.com: "oh yeah, there is only 100 copies of each issue, released on 7" format only so you will never hear it." Is this true? I thought #3 was limited to 250 copies...
  20. did you order them awhile ago? I haven't gotten a ship notice yet and the lady I spoke to on the phone said that they'll be shipping early next week. I ordered them two days ago, to Canada via priority mail.
