  1. Today is an "I've been working on and off this new album since july 2014 holy shit I should work on finishing it" kinda day.
  2. Getting there! I know it's a nitpicky detail but is there a reason the drop shadow looks like it's falling on a curved surface? Seems super odd to me but maybe I'm just being pedantic.
  3. I'm into the minimal look for this too, either way. Also yeah, if we're cluttering the thread too much I'm cool with taking the conversation elsewhere, no need for this to become an amalgam of post rock and the design thread haha.
  4. Also an unrefined idea I had for the rating system if you're into it Charlie. You can take it or leave it, I'm just doodling around in photoshop lol. I had the idea of having the rating system be a turntable and having the rings go inward instead of outward. Makes sense to me, the more you like an album the further into playing it you'd get. Also I wanted to fill the unused space in the left corners of the chevron, the space looked unbalanced and it was irking me.
  5. Super into it. You're nailing this really specific aesthetic of monochrome with a little bit of coral/salmon and abstract geometric shapes combined with organic ones that's really doing it for me haha, I love all of that stuff a ton. Also if you don't mind a bit of critique on the banner, we have a lot of real estate in posts to utilize and I feel like at the current size it's wasting a ton of it. It doesn't necessarily have to fill the whole space, maybe something more like the blue box I doodled here. If a band is worth mentioning here, the banner doing it deserves to be a little bit bigger in my opinion.
  6. Your Hand In Mine was the first post rock song I'd ever heard, at this point I think The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place just holds a lot of sentimental/nostalgic value for me but I genuinely love that song specifically still.
  7. Wowee I need to get back into checking this thread more often, shit's getting on point in here. (Charlie holy crap that banner looks great????) I'm having an Excited But Too Scatterbrained To Make Constructive Sense Of Shit Right Now Moment™ but I'm definitely down to contribute in whatever way. If nothing else I'd love to share design duties with Charlie. The idea of doing a restaurant-esque menu design sounds really cool to me. As usual narrowing down a top anything list feels impossibly hard for me but I'll give it a shot. Hope y'all don't mind multiple albums from the same band, I can't pick just one from some of them. Explosions In The Sky - TEINACDP This Will Destroy You - Young Mountain This Will Destroy You - S/T This Will Destroy You - Tunnel Blanket Caspian - You Are The Conductor Caspian - Waking Season Hammock - Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow Hammock - Departure Songs Russian Circles - Empros Deadhorse - We Can Create Our Own World Stars Of The Lid - And Their Refinement Of The Decline Jakob - Sines Tides From Nebula - Earthshine Lowercase Noises - Migratory Patterns Lowercase Noises - Passage Moving Mountains - Foreword (not exclusively post rock but it had a huge influence on what I write so it gets an honorable mention)
  8. New ASE is 3/4 done, not sure when I'll finish it but hopefully in the next few months. Just finished a full length metalcore album that I started for kicks. That's about it I think. Definitely need to wrap the new ASE up though, it's been a work in progress since summer 2014 haha.
  9. Just now seeing this and I'm 50 shades of down to see anything with Bebop influence but the nonexistent ending is a bummer. Since it's been 5 months was an ending ever released? I have a god awful habit of binge watching anime and god knows I'll get to the end (or not end?) in no time so it'd be nice if it's out haha.
  10. Sorry for suddenly blowing up this thread so much, guess I had a lot of creative energy to come storming back into VC with lol. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p052e8p0zqfds05/edge%20destroys%20dry%20brush%20set.abr?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/hrt01789hxw6qnw/edgedestroys%20pack%209.abr?dl=0 95 new photoshop brushes I spent most of the day working on. I threw them up on deviant art because I'm too lazy to set up a creativemarket or gumroad account but DA's buying system is stupid and I was just gonna give them to you guys for free anyway so have at it. xoxo
  11. thisssss, the various watermarks I use are all brushes. some are based on the style of traditional Japanese seals so it just makes sense to have it as a brush preset I can just stamp in my work. crop of a shirt design I'm working on right now for a personal project with the logo seal I designed and just made a preset for.
  12. There isn't much time left for this preorder (I think it actually ships at the end of this week?) but figured I'd throw these guys out there. Checked them out on a whim after seeing the album art for this release in the recent Deathwish staff picks tweet and thinking it looked cool haha. Solid hardcore imo. -Coke Bottle w/ Black Splatter -Swamp Green -Beer w/ Oxblood Splatter (already sold out boooooo) http://merchnow.com/catalogs/axis Realized after the fact that they're from here in Orlando and had a "how the shit haven't I heard these guys yet" moment.
  13. Tagg was SUPER good, definitely one of my favorites! Mossflower, The Bellmaker, Pearls Of Lutra, Taggerung, Triss and Loamhedge have always stood out to me as extra good. If you wanna go off the deep end into the series, the chronological order of the stories is listed on the wikipedia page starting with Lord Brocktree.
  14. Right on haha. I've read (chronologically) up through Triss 3-5 times each, just now jumping into the last two books, The Sable Quean and The Rogue Crew. After he died I just kinda didn't think about it for a while, then two years ago grabbed those and let them sit on my shelf until now. Decided last week to finally finish the job when I have free time. 25 years old and zero shame about my hype.
  15. The entire gosh dang Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Love me some animals with swords. While on that kick I may as well say I was all about the Narnia books. Disregarding series as single entries, I'm at 29 books technically and most everything else I own is art, anatomy and design reference haha. I need to get back into reading more often. Les Mis and A Game Of Thrones have been sitting on my shelf for way too long.
  16. Also as promised, some of the watercolor brushes I've made along with some various grunge and texture brushes I've found in the past few years I use a lot. Can't for the life of me remember where I found them but I didn't make them. https://www.dropbox.com/s/e01q3ufzst9t3o8/edgedestroyswatercolor.abr?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/4r7b3zi9aw7w0o2/assortedgrungeandcracks.abr?dl=0 examples of things I've used some of these brushes in http://aftrmthart.com/post/42141704329/alternate-visceral-versions http://aftrmthart.com/post/42489053101/threw-together-a-quick-piece-to-celebrate-dead
  17. Sorry for the huge delay putting this together, I didn't get home until yesterday and only just now made this. .abr download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nji8r7b0gbuwztw/stipplingbrush.abr?dl=0
  18. I'm sure it's not the same as whatever Charlie saw but you can get diffusers for oils that essentially act as vaporizers. http://www.edensgarden.com/collections/accessories/products/thera-lux-nebulizer-diffuser?variant=4727438980#.Vmr1KXgrLJo http://www.amazon.com/VicTsing%C2%AE-Electric-Aromatherapy-Essential-Humidifier/dp/B00KHH86MK/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1449850336&sr=8-12&keywords=oil+diffuser http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B014PBA7IY/ref=sr_1_6_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1449850336&sr=8-6&keywords=oil+diffuser&condition=used 1st is a new one from EG I've been looking at, 2nd is one that I have, 3rd is one that a friend of mine has. The last two use water with a small amount of the oil dropped into it, the first one diffuses directly from the oil bottle so I assume its more effective.
  19. No prob! I'm sure you'll find out from looking into it but try to avoid anything that's a strong stimulant or camphorous like rosemary, eucalyptus, sage (not the same thing as clary sage), etc. Most people will recommend Young Living or doTerra for oils, YL is incredibly reputable as a source but pretty pricey. I've been buying from Eden's Garden a lot lately and their quality is pretty high as well for slightly more reasonable prices. Hit me up if you ever have questions. Good luck!
  20. one of my roommates was hit by a car a few years ago and now deals with seizures, it's definitely not a good time. I don't think I've mentioned it on here yet but I'm into aromatherapy/essential oils and tried to make an oil blend for her a few months ago out of frankincense, lavender, chamomile, clary sage and bergamot oils with jojoba as a carrier oil. I definitely can't make a qualified guarantee but she thinks it's helped so you could look into that if it interests you at all.
  21. yeah they made their goal on an indiegogo campaign for a new album since they aren't signed anymore and have already posted a picture I think of them setting up in the studio. you can still support them through the igg post, one of the options is a “Gardener” figurine a friend of theirs designed based off of the China White songs which is pretty neat haha.
  22. Touche Amore Russian Circles Now, Now Balance & Composure He Is Legend also hoping for more new stuff from Moving Mountains
  23. Charlie, Brian and I should all just thinktank a collab on something haha
  24. I'm still working on the new ASE full length I mentioned last august but in the mean time I recently wrapped up a metalcore album if you like stuff like August Burns Red, Texas In July, etc. Nothing “groundbreaking” and I know a lot of you aren't really into this stuff but it was fun to write so there's that at least haha. http://ghostsofcatharsis.bandcamp.com/ Technically $7/NYP but if any of you want it I can just hook you up with a zip.
  25. Not like this particular picture nah, when I finish it it's just gonna be black and white. I just made this darker version so it wouldn't blind me as my tablet wallpaper haha. I am considering doing a full shirt print of a darker version via society6, printalloverme or whatever but I'm still weighing options on that. In regards to making brushes, I'm away from home at a friend's so I cant offer screenshots but the basic process for making a brush preset (in photoshop) is to have your brush design as refined (or not I guess depending on what you're going for) as possible and desaturate it if need be, it should be black and white before you define the preset (ctrl+shift+u is the shortcut to desaturate a layer). If you need to adjust the black and white levels, hit ctrl+L and adjust as you see fit. Once you're happy with it you just go to Edit > Define Brush Preset, name and save and you're done. The process for the stippling brush I made goes a little further into brush settings for adjusting spread and jitter so it looks more naturally random but I can show that when I get back home to my computer. I'll throw up some .abrs of various brushes I've made including that stippling one when I get home too. I've done a lot of watercolor paint splatter stuff for texturing (think Jake Bannon's stuff) that are pretty fun to use.
