I would think it's likely they sold more than 200. I myself bought two, and I wouldn't underestimate the "I want vinyl because I want to be retro and hip" crowd just picking up random shit that looks cool.

Right but based on what I've gathered it seems many, many orders were cancelled based on limited stock.

  2. Can someone with a Wal-Mart copy post the matrix etchings in the dead wax?

I have a 2014 copy from the tour and this is what it has:

    Side A: "B0021185-01A RJ STERLING"

    Side B: "B0021185-01B RJ STERLING"

For both sides everything is hand-etched except for the word "STERLING", which is machine-pressed

EDIT: I just checked Discogs and these matrix etchings above aren't unique to the red/clear pressing so I'm not sure how useful this info will be unless the Wal-Mart copies have a completely different etching.

The hype sticker only called out "Exclusive Red and Clear Split Coloured Vinyl" but not the actual pressing number. The pressing info written on paper the merch table during the tour.  I suppose it's possible that it was a larger pressing and only 300 were available on that tour. It doesn't seem logical that a major label (Island) would do such a small pressing solely for a tour.

Ah ok. Thanks. This whole thing is just bizarre. As weird as it is for a major to do such a small pressing, it's almost as odd that additional copies don't see the light of day for 7 years and then show up at Walmart.

Man., looking at that cover photo makes me realize how much old beeks has let himself go these last few years. Oy.

  5. This was already posted in the Walmart thread but I wanted to also post it here for those interested.

Walmart is selling an exclusive "red and clear" variant. Some are speculating that this is the tour press /300 but I find that hard to believe since you can add 100 copies to your cart per order (not to mention how odd it would be for copies of a 2014 pressing to show up at Walmart 7 years later).

It is weird that they would repress another red and clear variant but that wouldn't be the first time that's happened with  a TGA album.

  6. This pressing has a bonus disc of other artists covering all the album tracks. VMP has a silver/orange variant /500. I'm not gonna bite on this since I already have this record and it's not worth it to me to pay $40 just to have an extra disc of covers. That said, Epic is a great record and if you don't already have it, this may be up your alley:

    DESCRIPTION

epic Ten is a double LP of the original epic album from 2010 and a new album of epic covers, out digitally on April 16th and physically on June 11th via Ba Da Bing, plus a documentary and concert stream. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of epic’s release, and to acknowledge the convergence of Van Etten’s present and past work, she asked fellow artists she admired to cover one different song from epic. Featured artists include Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams, Courtney Barnett, Vagabon, Big Red Machine (Aaron Dessner & Justin Vernon), IDLES, Shamir, and St. Panther.

epic represents a crossroads for me as an artist. Going from intern to artist at Ba Da Bing, from solo folk singer to playing with a band for the first time and beginning to play shows on tour where people showed up. I am in awe of the artists who wanted to participate in celebrating my anniversary and reissue, from young inspiring musicians, to artists who took me under their wing, who I met on tour, and to artists I’ve looked up to since I was a teenager. Each one of these artists continue to influence my writing and provide a sense of camaraderie during this new era of sharing music.” - Sharon Van Etten

  7. With all of the represses of 39 Smooth over the years (along with the bonus 7" editions), I'm really surprised they've never done a double LP version of "1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" that combines 39 Smooth with all of the 7" tracks. I know that Lookout Records was going to issue this on vinyl but then Green Day pulled their catalogue so it never got passed the test pressing stage. Any hardcore Green Day fans have any insight into whether this is likely to ever happen?

Did I quote you?? I wasn’t referring to you. But the fact that you responded to this and felt like you were personally attacked is exactly why this place is a fucking cess pool of shitty man children who live in a fucking Amazon world where you think things are and should be catered to you in a “certain amount of time”.  Are you fucking kidding me?!??!?

When I started doing this, I sent actual money, goddam fucking change, sometimes, to Recess Records/Asian Man/etc and  I waited. Sometimes it took many many weeks. I live in San Diego, most of the companies I was buying from were in state and would still take 3 weeks to get you in 1997!

I’m not sure what everyone’s fucking malfunction is when it comes to something taking a little bit longer to get to you. Are you really that fucking dense or what??

The amount of anger and aggression here is pretty over the top.  I know the holidays can be stressful but geez.

I just don't understand the sentiment "the new song really sucks makes it a lot easier to cancel this guy."

It's weird take. If that makes me dense to you, that's ok.

I think what you're saying is that if someone is truly principled about "cancelling' an artist based on that artist's misconduct, why should it matter whether the music is good or lousy?

I think ntslash is candidly acknowledging that it's much easier to stick to your principles if you don't feel like you're sacrificing that much.
