It makes sense but seems like overkill to me. I guess when I think acrylic platter I'm thinking an actual turntable platter like the one Pro-ject or Groovetracer make. I'm sure yours will be much simpler. Interested in seeing how your RCM turns out. I think it's cool that you're doing it! There was a guy over on Canuck Audio Mart making his own. I think he sold them all but if I can find a link I'll post it.

The IGD on the Elys is frustrating. Albums without it sound okay, nothing special, but so many albums have IGD it drives me mental. I've checked the alignment, he's checked it, but I just can't get rid of it. I'll take an album with IGD and play it on my other turntable with a 2M Blue and there's no IGD at all. I can get the 2300 for $340 Canadian. Since it's used he said I can try it out and if I don't like it he'll just give me my money back. Other options are the 2500, 1042 or I could move up to a MC like the Eroica.

There's only one record store in my city that sells new releases. I check in there a couple times a year and most of his stuff is so insanely over priced that I just can't afford to support him. The average album is at least $10 more than anywhere online. The craziest price I've seen is on that NOFX 7" box set. I got the coloured version for around $100 Canadian and he had the less limited gold version for $250! edit: I checked and had the price wrong. The box set from Fat Wreck was $120 US, not that it changes much.
