  1. I like what I've heard from the Numero Group but every Soul/Funk aficionado I talk to seems to see them as a mixed blessing because while they're putting out great music that a lot of people haven't heard they are also cleaning up the masters too much and taking away the balls that existed in the original 7" releases of the same songs. I haven't had a chance to compare; has anyone else noticed this?
  2. Can you give me a link for this? I'm becoming a John Dywer completist, yesterday I picked up a new copy of his "death metal" group Dig That Body Up, It's Alive - A Corpse is Forever for the very reasonable price of $12 from Vacation Vinyl in Los Angeles. Pretty cool numbered package with silk screened cover, heavy white vinyl and a sheet that describes the short history of the band. Here's a shot of it:
  3. Got my copy in the mail today. Pretty damn cool:
  4. I think a way you can tell the difference between first pressing and second pressing without opening is by examining the back cover of the book. If you can see (and feel) an indentation shaped like a record on the back cover, it is a first pressing with the bonus track. The second pressing is smooth (again, if I recall right). I think there might be slight variation with the colors and hologram stickers inside too.
  5. I think I've spun each record at least 3-4 times and the Ty Segall / Thee Oh Sees records probably closer to 10 times. I'm not sure if the thickness of the book counters the flexi thing? I think I remember hearing the first pressing was 1000 but I don't see any place that backs up that number.
  6. I have this. You don't have to take the records out of the book, instead you fold it like a book and spin it on your turntable (the center hole goes through the entire book). It's pretty fucking awesome. I have the first pressing which has a bonus/hidden record on the last page, the second pressing that's out now apparently lacks the final track. The Ty Segall/Mikal Cronin tracks covering Bowie are especially great.
  7. I noticed that they had Intelligence - Boredom & Terror in stock and considering pulling the trigger on that. I was also stoked to see that they had a few Coachwhips things that I could add to my collection, I got Bangers Vs. Fuckers (on translucent red vinyl) and I will probably come back for the other two records they're selling when I have more money in the bank.
  8. Related to Thee Oh Sees, I assumed that The Cool Death of Island Raiders was OOP on vinyl but they still have copies for sale on Narnack Records website (http://narnackrecords.com/products-page/artists/thee-ohsees/thee-oh-sees-formerly-ocs-the-cool-death-of-island-raiders/ ). I got mine today, orange vinyl and super awesome. Glad I didn't pay $40 on discogs.
  9. I have a copy of this still in shrink with inner sleeve signed by Shaun Durkan. I wasn't really looking to get rid of it but I would be willing to take an offer on it. [email protected]
  10. I saw Kurt Vile about a month ago and he was already sold out of them. I talked with the other guitarist in The Violators and he said they were only given a small box of them and they sold out quickly but Woods had a bunch of them. A few days later Woods came to Los Angeles and indeed they seemed to have a bunch of them. The dude from The Violators also hinted that there might be a remastered or different repress coming because apparently Kurt wasn't completely happy with the way his side came out.
  11. Specifically: Mother of All Saints Strangers From the Universe The Funeral Pudding Let me know if you have them and what you would need to get for them. Thanks.

  13. Have seen those records at Wax Trax in Denver Did you pick any of them up? I'm curious about the quality of the pressings, I only have the Pixies one so far and I think it sounds pretty good.

  15. There's a local guy that's been pressing bootlegs with lovely screen-printed covers and limited color vinyl pressings of stuff like Eno - BBC Sessions or Pixies - BBC Sessions or My Bloody Valentine - Demos and Early Recordings. He has managed to get them into many stores around Southern California (including Amoeba) and this seems to be his ebay store: http://shop.ebay.com/restlessnativeslbc/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

  17. I don't see Rooky Ricardo's Records (448 Haight Street) on there. That's a pretty cool record store specializing in soul/funk/R&B.
  18. I'm not sure if mine is a proper variation or if it was just a fluke of the pressing but both sides have black smoke.
  19. Have you got a picture of it? Black smokes sounds and i assume looks cool
  20. Thanks for posting this. I have the early white pressing with black smoke but I'm certainly tempted to get the inverted black with white swirl copy.
  21. Press Release: Group Flex Volume 1 is a compilation of five Bay Area bands who are all globe trotting Bay Area dominators. It's a fully playable book of flexi discs and art by WILLIAM KEIHN (resident artist at Castleface) with ten exclusive, burning tracks by BLASTED CANYONS, BARE WIRES, FRESH & ONLYS, THEE OH SEES, and TY SEGALL & MICHAEL CRONIN. Pressed on multi- colored flexi discs with holographic images adorning each page. This is a one of a kind creation produced by hand in the caves of Pirates Press. The first pressing has a nice little secret buried in its pages somewhere too, so don't wait. Holy smokes, and have a nice day! I took some pictures of my copy that I picked up from Permanent Records in LA: They have it here: http://www.insound.com/Group-Flex-Vol-1-5x7inch-Various-Artists/P/INS97504/
