  1. Amoeba has their stuff up: http://www.amoeba.com/music/cd-and-vinyl/#/format[3]-3/format[4]-4/format[17]-17/format[19]-19
  2. My only need from yesterday is Father John Misty. Hit me up if you want to sell yours and you don't care about making a healthy profit off me.
  3. Haha. Fixed. I swear I wasn't doing that to be a dick. I always just lump Long Beach in with Orange County. I'm sure some people in Burbank with argue with its placement in the valley too.
  4. I have to work on RSD, but I'll definitely try to hit up PermRex at some point. Would love to catch John Doe and Exene and get them to sign my copy of Los Angeles.
  5. Here's what I know. East Side: Permanent - My favorite record store, really easy to keep up on his stock if you keep an eye on his discogs page. Owner Lance has a sixth sense for sniffing out rare private press records and awesome old punk/psych/krautrock. He also does the best at stocking garage rock from Australia, which is an important criteria for me. Wombleton - Always has a dozen or so records that I would bleed to own in my collection but his prices really stick the knife in and twist it. OG britpop and Flying nun aplenty, come for the original pressing of Loveless and stay to drool on the OG Nick Drake. Gimme Gimme Records - Old school record shop owner seems to have an unlimited stock of records and every time I stop by his shop it seems like it has almost completely turned over. Good stuff at reasonable prices. Mount Analog - I find this store hard to maneuver but it sure looks pretty and they are probably the place to go if you're looking for weird minimal synth records or obscure new avant garde electronica. Hollywood/Echo Park Amoeba - The best record store in LA. Don't let anyone tell you any different. They get so much stock on a daily basis that I almost always find something I need to own and usually find it at a reasonable price (discogs median or lower) and occasionally I find something that's so ridiculously underpriced I can't believe my good fortune (last night I found Flaming Lips cover album of Stone Roses for $30 with "light wear"). Rockaway - Focuses on memorabilia but I've found some good stuff here and I always find their prices good and generous, especially when taking into account the grade. I am especially fond of their 7" section. Origami - Does a great job of keeping up with all the local bands and you can find some gems if you dig (especially recently OOP records). Blue Bag - I almost never make it over here but this is another old school record owner type guy who has a lot of back stock and usually prices things pretty reasonably. He has a lot of lower priced records that are worth the dig. Mono Records - Small stock and easy to go through this store, he mostly focuses on punk stuff but has a lot of friends in local bands too and I think they bring in some local stock. I've found good stuff here but it's a total crapshoot. Vacation - I hardly go here anymore because I find the prices are too high. Probably the most essential record store in LA if you are into Metal. Headline Records - Keeps up on punk releases and has a lot of new punk shirts, I've only really found this store helpful when digging through their stock looks for records from a few years back and they carried and never sold. Jackknife - Not really worth checking out unless you really love old tapes. Lolipop - Not really worth checking out unless you really love local LA tapes. See also Gnar Burger. Counterpoint - Impossible to park here because of UCB right next door and the few times I have gone here I've found it overpriced and not worth the time and effort to dig (and climb their stupid ladders) High Fidelity - Haven't been here for awhile and I've never found anything really worthwhile. Record Collector - Hilariously awful record store. No prices on anything and an owner prone to hissy fits. Visit their yelp page some time and you will find hours of entertainment. The Valley: Freakbeat - Good store with decent stock and fair pricing. Leans towards psychedelic and classic rock. Atomic - Leans very hard on classic rock but if you need a Led Zep record for under $20, I bet you'll find it here. Decent selection of wall items too CD Trader - Fine. If you end up in this part of the valley this is about the best you can do. Probably only worth checking out their new arrivals section. Westside: Record Surplus - I don't usually find much here but they do have a lot of classic rock and they usually price things conservatively. Touch Vinyl - I've never found anything here but the owner seems like a nice enough dude. Soundstation - If you are near the airport with time to kill you might find something decent here but I've found they tent to not take condition into consideration when pricing. Long Beach/OC: Fingerprints - Feels like an old school record store and they have some cool events. I haven't really found much notable in their used bins but I never mind browsing. Bagatelle - Walking distance from Fingerprints and essential if you have the time to dig. Their stock is not organized very well and they don't have prices on a lot of the records but when you do find something you'll probably be satisfied with the price he quotes (it is usually very fair). Port of Sound - I've only been here once but I liked this store. He has a VPI cleaner and so the stock is very clean and pretty reasonably priced. Radiation - A disaster to browse through, it's probably just easier to stand in the store and look at their discogs page rather than browse the chaos, but even then he might not have that in stock. Glasshouse Store - I've found some good punk records here at a decent price but it's very hit or miss. Burger Records - They have some new good tapes. I don't usually find anything great in their used section. Rhino - I only really like this place for the new stock that has gone OOP.
  6. Yeah, I was there too. Fun set. I think it was all (or mostly) covers but the only one I recognized for sure was TSOL. Did you recognize any of the others?
  7. I'm amused by the thought of someone signing up for the Vault in order to get the Jay Z box set and now getting Loretta Lynn sent their way.
  8. I asked Charlie about that last time I saw Fuzz (a month or so back) and he said they weren't planning on an album anytime soon. They have some new songs that they're playing live though.
  9. During their show on Sunday, he also said that it was the last time they were ever going to play "Girlfriend" but I didn't take it that seriously because he's said stuff like that in the past.
  10. Here's video of him making the announcement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqAQNrqOf3o&feature=youtu.be I didn't go to the smell last night because I had seen Ty Segall the two previous nights but this is sad news if it's true because the Ty Segall Band really ripped together. I know Ty has an acoustic night coming up and a Fuzz show coming up and Mikal has a tour as well. I also know there that some of the inner dynamics of the band have changed recently and perhaps that has something to do with it.
  11. I did. I wavered initially but ultimately decided that $100 was not unreasonable for this novelty release and given the fan base of both Third Man & Jay Z, I should be able to flip this at some point if I decide I don't want to keep it.
  12. Damn, I got slammed at work and didn't get my order in until 12:45. Probably have black vinyl coming my way.
  13. I got a 7" record in an envelope with bubble wrap (no cardboard inside to protect it) and a corner got bent in shipping as it seemed like the package was a bit mishandled by USPS (as they often are). I wasn't too bent out of shape about the bent corner, so I left the buyer a positive rating with the constructive comment "I wish the packing had been more securely padded but I was happy with the record." Dude went ballistic about the positive feedback... "Is this a fucking joke? It was in a bubble mailer and padded with shipping bubble padding. The 7" came to you in perfect condition I'm sure. How could you have possibly wanted me to ship it? I don't appreciate this snarky unnecessary feedback and if you want a full refund, you can send the record back to me. Until then, go fuck yourself you whiny pretentious little bitch. You don't deserve a record like that for only 12 dollars." I messaged back about cardboard protecting records, his reply. "I've bought a lot of records on eBay and none if them have come in cardboard mailers. Like I said they are expensive. If the record was $100, I can see how shelling out $5 for a mailer might make sense. But it was $13. After the costs of the mailer and shipping, there would have ben no point in selling the record, because I wouldn't have made any money on it. I think the fact that you got a rare record for such a good deal would necessitate some flexibility on your part. Unfortunately, you seem to be a collector and a reviewer, so I can see how you would be overwhelmingly particular no matter the case. Furthermore, I'm not looking for constructive criticism. I sold you a record at an extremely fair price and packaged it well. It's a simple transaction that you are indeed making difficult. I know this isn't a productive conversation, but it would be nice if you at least tried to understand the view of the seller."
  14. Not sure if anyone cares, but you should. Paper Bag Records is reissuing Sally Shapiro's Italo-disco classic DISCO ROMANCE on clear double vinyl and limited to only 300. First pressing on vinyl in North America. Link: http://shop.paperbagrecords.com/products/disco-romance
  15. Yeah, I'm honestly more bummed by the current trend of adding $7 to a record just because it's color vinyl. What happened to just having early color copies go to eager pre-sale shoppers and not wringing them for extra pennies? I think this shit is going to hurt vinyl buying in the long run.
  16. The wrap around sleeve is pretty cool. It's usually screen printed and sealed with a Sacred Bones Wax seal. Im not sure it's $33 cool...
  17. I've been collecting for about 10 years: 1855 LPs 1054 7" 350 EPs either 12" or 7" 122 Compilation LPs 249 of them are signed.
  18. They had (white) copies of HORN THE UNICORN on Saturday. My friend said they sold copies of LIVE AT DEATH BY AUDIO on Friday and they sold too quickly for my friend to pick me up one. I asked about it Saturday and Mikal said they might have some more at a future show.
  19. I scored a red yesterday from Permanent in Los Angeles. My two buddies who also bought there got black copies. I got Ty to signed it, since he was hanging out there, he said red vinyl was limited to either 400 or 500.
  20. Mine arrived horribly warped on Saturday. My buddy messaged me today saying his was warped too... Anyone else with the same problem?
  21. I didn't even think to ask about Long Drive because I already have it. It didn't occur to me until I had already walked away that a shitload of people would want to know that as well. Sorry.
  22. Hey dudes, So I waiting a long ass time in the cold California night last night after the Pomona show to get some vinyl signed. After I got my record signed I asked Isaac Brock if we were going to get a Lonesome Crowded West reissue anytime soon. He told me that they have wanted to repress it for years but had not been able to locate the original masters, so they had to go back and remaster the entire thing completely from scratch. He said it was all done now and it should be OUT IN FOUR MONTHS. Very exciting news, I hope this ends up being accurate. It was told to me by a very drunk and freshly tattooed Isaac Brock. Incidentally, here was the set list from last night: Although, luckily they also played "Trailer Trash," "Custom Concern" and "3rd Planet" which weren't on the printed set list, I think they were audience call outs. And to help verify the story and to show off a little, the records I got signed: by Isaac Brock and Jeremiah Green by only Isaac Brock
