I have to be honest man, their new music does absolutely nothing for me. This album is so fucking boring, it already started with Walls but this one is even worse. No idea if it's because they have kind of settled down now, got families etc. but it's astonishing that this is the same band that wrote those glorious first 5 albums.

I am in the same boat, as well. It was their first 4 that were absolutely perfect to me. I've enjoyed a few songs here and there since then, but their newer albums as a whole do not hit me the same as they once did in their early years.

I’m betting they don’t have rights to the original version of this- and fans are paying money secondhand for it, so why not re-record it and at least give them *something*?

Yikes, people really shouldn't  be paying secondhand when this is in stock, new on clear green vinyl, at Victory right meow:

Let me tell you about a time, before must of you collected records, when no gave a shit about this album and you could get it new for $8...

Ah yes. Simpler times. The lack of shit given for this album when it came out reminded me of the divide of Jawbreaker fans after 'Dear You' came out. The vocals, major label, yadda yadda yadda. Such a fucking great album, imo. 'Morning in the Moonlight' is still a top 10 STD song for me.

Pretty bummed. I finally picked up my reserve copy (the indie yellow) of this from a local shop and Side A seems to be off-pitch. The notes drone and sound way off compared to the digital version I've heard. My tonearm is clearly moving side to side as it tracks, so I'm thinking this is an off-centre pressing issue.

Has anyone had this problem with their yellow copy?!

Thats a damn shame, you may have gotten a dud. I picked up a yellow copy from Zia on Friday and spun it that night with no issues.

Well, Science Fiction came out in 2017 so by the time Brand New decides to release a new album it'll be around 2025 and by then people might forget they got cancelled.  Especially now that cancel culture is sort of being cancelled.

It can be a split with Ian Watkins and Harvey Weinstein can produce their music videos!

  6. Finally listened to this. Sounds pretty good overall, but has some small crackling on quieter parts, especially the B side for me.  'Sad Songs and Waltzes' suffers from it the most, imo, as it is one of the mellower songs on the album. Hard to notice once the songs get moving on most tracks beyond that. I only have a brush and liquid at the moment, so it may benefit from a good wash. No skips for me, just that sweet, crackly "warmth".

Small tick sound on every rotation ONLY on the intro of 'I Will Survive'; didn't notice it as the song picked up or elsewhere on the album. Some sibilance on my copy during 'Stickshifts and Safetybelts', but in all fairness John Mcrea enunciates the hell out of those S sounds in the recording anyways. Only noticed issues with it in that one song 🤷‍♂️

Low end sounds excellent to me, which is essential for Cake; the bass really stands out. Stays true to the stellar production on this album. Disc is sturdy and flat with a quality jacket as well.

Not a perfect press, but the sound is pretty darn good in it's entirety. Very happy with the purchase, even at $30 for a frill-less unofficial press. Compared to some hip hop uo I have, looking at you 'Yeezus' 🙄, this is leaps and bounds better and is closer to the quality of a lazy pressing from the label.
