  1. The first "Broken Lamps" Pastepunk CD compilation I put out in 2001. I did a lot of stupid things with it (getting 3000 CDs delivered to my parents house without telling them - ooops, included a Finch song), learned on the fly how licensing agreements work well before I went to law school, and, generally lost a ton of money, but when I first held that thing in my hand, shrink wrapped and all, it was an amazing feeling.
  2. University of Maryland - BS Marketing George Mason School of Law - JD Loved going to UMD - just a few miles north of DC. Not in the best of areas, and definitely not a classic college town like some other huge state schools, but the campus itself is amazing, in general, being in the DC area opened up a ton of internship/job, etc opportunities.
  3. This is pretty awesome. I'm a weird situation right now with IndieClick where all they are showing are ads from 2.5 years ago that were specially purchased through me and exist outside their channel buy system. And all of the my current channel buys are not showing up. And they're not writing back to me about it. Arrg. I don't really worry about ads anymore since they bring in peanuts for us, and I'm tempted to just dump them altogether. This might be something I should strongly consider offering.
  4. One of the few bands that I've been listening to for forever that I've yet to see live. I think I'd lose to hear some of those well-known Clumsy songs. Album is still an untouchable.
  5. Don't be so quick to assume things on the UFL. Mark Cuban is one of the partners behind it and the NFL has tacitly approved of its use as a development league where teams can pluck players from during the regular season when needed in case of injury. Salaries are $50k for ordinary players and $250k for starting quarterbacks and there is interest in expanding the league from its 5 current teams to 8. The XFL died b/c it wanted to be entertainment event first before being a sports league. The UFL's goals are very different.
  6. Pastepunk turns 12 today. We're celebrating with a new 17 song free mp3 comp posted on the site -- http://www.pastepunk.com/site/pastepunk-12th-anniversary-compilation/ It was assembled with the help of Bear Trap PR, so there's a solid mix of punk rock and indie, along with a little bit of hardcore too. Here's the line-up: One Win Choice, Lipona, Annabel, Ludlow Lions, Banquets, Campaign, Solar Bear, Everyone Everywhere, Junior Battles, PJ Bond, Ghost Robot Ninja Bear, Museum Mouth, Animal Names, The Reveling, The Saddest Landscape, Only Thieves and Thinking Machines.
  7. Real name: Jordan Favorite Bands: Bad Religion, Trial, Silent Majority, Rancid, Avail, Strung Out, Hope Con, and a gazillion more. What's your Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr etc.?: www.twitter.com/pastepunk www.facebook.com/pastepunk www.facebook.com/jbakerman Play in a band? Run a record label? Link us!: Have owned/operated the music site Pastepunk.com since 1998. It turns 12 in October. I'm old. Never played in a band though I've probably created a hundred or so imaginary hardcore bands in my head. Random things you want us to know about you: - I actually collect CDs over vinyl though I have a few hundred pieces of the latter. My CD collection is somewhere in the 5000-6000 range. If I had the money, I'd convert my deck into a sunroom/media library. It's in the 10 year plan... - Am an attorney w/ the US Patent and Trademark Office - Got a little boy who is now 2.5 and is wise enough to tell me that CONVERGE is "too loud Daddy, play Wiggles"
  8. I'd be shocked if Rev or Deathwish didn't pick up copies...
  9. Wow, 111 people have read the thread and not one comment? Wonder what that says about some of the people on here...
  10. Been a subscriber to eMusic for years and years. I buy most of my music digitally. I've grown to enjoy scouring the daily updates on the service and it eventually does feel like shopping for music. There really aren't any good music stores in my area (insanely sad for living in a county wit over a million people), and heading into DC ain't quite as easy as it used to be. With eMusic, it basically comes down to 40 cents a track for most plans above the very base one.
  11. I'm really into the new Cruel Hand. It's only 20 minutes long but it just pummels, and the crossover elements are real smooth. I still can't figure out why Bane didn't do a domestic CD release of the Tokyo outing. I know that they wanted to help the smaller labels benefit from the individual 7"s, which is noble in its own right, but for non-vinyl people I think all it did was chase more them to mediafire links, etc. There's gonna have to be a Bane "collection" release sooner or later, right?
  12. Yu mentioned Indecision and I couldn't agree more. They are more in the inactive status than totally done for, but their discography of hardcore releases from about 1994-2007 is pretty insane, especially during the 1999-2003 period with the youth crew revival in full-effect.
  13. Green Day are gonna be like the Rolling Stones or AC/DC of our generation. They understand entertaining, and are always amazing live. The hey-hos are annoying though. Are they still doing the 'assemble kids from the crowd to play on stage' thing? That got old after seeing it for the first time.
  14. I always thought there was a disconnect between their songwriting and their stage presence. Doesn't mean they were bored playing live, but maybe they were just true to their personalities live than trying to force it. There are lot of bands that I preferred on record to live (anyone remember New Found Glory's early years on stage? Eeeesh).
  15. The nature of my lawyer work in short is that I send out official letters about their trademark application and the recipients must respond to them by a certain deadline. It's the classic setup for having a ton of stuff back-up if you take a week off, not to mention all of the emails, policy/legal announcements that happen each week. Since we're on a production system, that work has to get done by you regardless and can't be assigned to others unless you take more than a month off. I didn't take a vacation from work for nearly 2.5 years after starting b/c I simply feared what would happen when coming back.
  16. Hoping they just go instrumental...
  17. The full-length is pretty solid, the MySpace songs are the most 'pennywise' sounding on it. Indeed, the drumming is fantastic.
  18. I wouldn't exactly say it's "living the dream." I imagine the anxiety was probably eating at him pretty good, despite his abilities.
  19. So I gotta ask, where did the money come from start amassing a collection that large? 30-40k is amazingly impressive, so I'm just curious. My CD collection is over 10K, so I can appreciate the scale involved. Great read overall.
