Mike, it's probably hard for you to be impartial but for me it was almost unbearable to handle the extreme "homerism" of your commentators. 

 

Usually, the color guy gets a bit of a pass since their normally former players, but your guys are both oozing with Penguin love.

a little very logo happy, but i kinda like the 80's aesthetic they were going for with the bordered covers and center labels. i haven't really been bothered by it so far. that said, if they do end up releasing some mansell stuff on vinyl (as they hinted on FB), i'd be peeved if they dominated the album artwork with their logo. 

 

Their RSD 7"s have a generic death waltz sleeve with their logo on it. Center labels with their logo on it. and a sticker with.....their logo on it! It's kind of hilarious. 

I got an immediate download for the Ep.

 

I bought it with a frank turner record and only got a link to that one, but no big deal since someone here sent it to me. 

 

And I have to concur with everyone, it's pretty solid. I think it's pretty obvious that a lot of us are on team Dan, who is the black swan of this band and needs to take center stage. 

the fountain is probably my favorite film. would kill for the soundtrack on vinyl.

I have a vehement disdain for their aesthetic choices. 

 

At times, they have the racecar driver uniforms of vinyl jackets. 

All of those RSD soundtrack comp's are silly to me. Just because you thought Judd Nelson was cool in Breakfast Club doesn't mean the soundtrack is actually an enjoyable 35 minute listen. But god damn I'm becoming such a cynical asshole. 

 

And I feel tempted to criticize death waltz in yet another thread, but I'll just bite my tongue and say I hope Mondo does 28 days later as well. 

 

lastly, the fountain was an incredibly confusing movie, but the score is quite beautiful.

The EP have some of the best AK3 songs in years. I have found every one of their albums enjoyable with some standing out more than others. This album was no different but when you add on the EP tracks you get easily one of their best releases.

 

Broken Wing is just such a great song.

I donyt care what anyone says, I dont want to see the pens play the Devils if Marty is in net.  the one team that I really feel could ruin the pens run this year in the playoffs.

Specifically relating to AinR, they had problems with the Sigur Ros and Beck box sets that were pressed at Rainbo. That's supposedly why they switched to Pallas.

They are cheap for a reason. Google user reviews of the Beatles Box Set they did recently. There are many complaints about the quality. You don't hear stuff like this about RTI. You get what you pay for.

Fair enough, but I still think its a crapshoot overall. Both RTI and Rainbo are pressing the same way with the same weight. I think when you compare to Pallas/GZ/Furnace who are using DMM there is a bigger difference, but I honestly don't have the ear of the body of records to make a fair comparison. 

 

I just think a lot of people tend to say "that plant sucks!" when in reality its usually the source/lacquers that are terrible. If a Bernie Grundman mastering job was sent to Rainbo or RTI I think you'd get the same result. 

It wasn't too much of a stretch to assume this was Rainbo, heh. I'm not familiar with Pallas at all. I guess they did the Transatlanticism remaster/reissue, which supposedly sounds excellent.

 

The plant has a very small role in determining the overall sound quality of a record. 

 

Has Rainbo botched some other big project that I didn't hear about? I'm just curious where the collective Rainbo hate originated.

This has to be a Rainbo Records fuck up - that plant is terrible. I'm willing to bet that's the case. What does the matrix look like? I know Pirates has their name on the matrix usually

 

Possibly. But I've used Rainbo maybe 300 times over the past 4 years, and they've fucked up 2-3 times tops. I wouldn't be surprised if it was them, but I will also say that if it was they will likely rectify it no matter the cost. 

 

And I'd say overall they are the best for what I need, which says more about how terrible other plants are rather than how great Rainbo is.

 

But hey I hope less people use Rainbo, faster records for me! FUCK RAINBO!
