  1. Hey, I'm in one of those... http://www.bridge9.com/octaves
  2. Read today that the dude didn't have a warrant out for unpaid child support. He owed 7500.00 in child support, but no warrant. Maybe he thought he had a warrant?
  3. I haven't listened to this dude's music since I was a kid, but I have to give it to him, his voice has matured in a really cool way. I think it has a pretty rad sound and texture in that Invisible Parade song. But DAMN those lyrics are rough.
  4. He has a separate phono stage, which he didn't replace. It could be something as simple as the difference in voicing between the amps. If the new amp has more forward highs you're going to hear more surface noise (if that is in fact what you are hearing). I hear more surface noise when using my solid state pre than I do with my tube pre, because the ss has a brighter high end.
  5. I already got one. Was really surprised that it seemed to tighten the bass response a bit. Whenever I read that stuff I'm usually kind of skeptical but I noticed an immediate difference.
  6. Finally had a local shop call me back. 230 bucks. Soooo...nevermind.
  7. Got two tickets for DC. Never been able to see them before, so it goes without saying I am fucking stoked.
  8. Our bass player Tony made this little doc of the Euro tour we did with Caravels for the split. Good times, wish I was still there! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFIa6jvSvfY
  9. First off, is this cool posted here? I think the little bit of gear I've seen for sale was in this sub forum?! Anyways, have a pair of Martin Logan Motion 12's for sale. In great shape, pictured without the grills but I have them and they're in great shape as well. Bought new speakers and need to sell these asap as I am running out of space. Looking for $550. These went for around $1200-$1400 new, so hopefully these will move at $550. The new version of these is basically the Motion 40 or 60, which most Best Buy locations with a Magnolia have, so if you've never heard a pair of Martin Logans and are interested, check them out. I think they have a pretty specific sound because of the folded motion tweeters they use. I'm in the Baltimore area, not looking to ship for obvious reasons. PM me if interested. Thanks!
  10. Yea that Dandy cleaner looks a little goofy. As far as the record doctor getting hot, I've read that elsewhere, but I've run through batches of 15-20 records and mine's been fine.
  11. I've had the Record Doctor V for 3 or 4 months now and it has worked great for me. I haven't tried to clean a record that was completely trashed as I tend not to buy records like that. But I do have more used than new vinyl, and I haven't run into a record this couldn't help yet. It's definitely a little time consuming being totally manual, but I actually have come to enjoy the ritual of running through some dirty records while listening to music. All the records I clean go into MOFI inner sleeves, sound clean, and stay static free from then on.
  12. For the guy talking about the words Theist and Atheist, this if from that Sam Harris book "Letter to a Christian Nation" - “In fact, "atheism" is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non-astrologer" or a "non-alchemist." We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.” Short, easy to read book with some pretty blistering take downs. Was more digestible when I was first diving into my doubt head first, but still a good read.
  13. Right on, just figured I'd ask. I'm not having static issues or anything, just bored I guess. I found an acrylic shop locally that makes acrylic awards or trophies or some shit. Might give that a shot.
  14. Probably a long shot, but figured I'd ask and see if I could give someone here my money instead of acrylteller. Ajxd maybe? Anybody?
  15. Just got 2 copies if this and 2 at my local shop. I said I thought they were out of print and dude said he did too, they just showed up.
  16. I have a few - Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch Air - Virgin Suicides Soundtrack Rx Bandits - ATBB, Resignation, Progress Saves the Day - In Reverie The first couple Mars Volta records I think the most "valuable" record I own is actually Tom Petty's Greatest Hits from the 90's. Recently saw that on discogs for almost 300 bucks. I got it a few years ago at a store in France of all places for around 20.
  17. I'd like to thank this thread for helping me choose my first avatar in 4 years.
  18. Service sucks up here but I got mines! How ya like me now Capt Cal?!?
  19. Don't care either way if I own this record at some point. But, god damn, I can't stop reading this thread.
  20. Azimuth is usually checked with a mirror not VTA. Azimuth is the angle the stylus is resting in the grooves. Youtube azimuth adjustment too and you should be able to figure out both.
  21. Yea I heard some a couple years ago and the sound just stuck with me. I didn't think I'd have a chance to own some for a loooong time but these showed up on craigslist for a price I couldn't pass up.
  22. Haha I bought that thing a couple years ago and have been repairing it little by little. Right now it's basically a 200 dollar night light.
  23. Feel like I have a set up I'll be sticking with for a while for the first time. Just picked up a Peachtree Nova 220se and some new to me Martin Logan SL3's. Running the Pro-ject 1.3 (Audio Technica 440ML) through an Aural Thrills tube pre with 3 Sovtek 12ax7lps. Feeling pretty stoked at the moment.
