To each their own. I paid $24 for a record I really want to spin instead of not owning it because I can't afford it. Success to me.

First store visit of the new year today - was trying to hold off to stockpile funds for my LA/Amoeba visit in February, but I was good and kept it to the $1 7" bin:
Samantha Fox - Touch Me (I Want Your Body)
    Bananarama - I Heard A Rumor
Human League - (Keep Feeling) Fascination (Figured I would find a good condition copy of this after "Total Panic" finally gets reissued on last year's 'Dare!' box, but oh well.)
The Jacksons - State of Shock
Whitney Houston - How Will I Know?
Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing promo (7" mix on both sides)
    Prince - Partyman / Feel U Up
Dance party, my apartment, right now.

Good thing I don't have kids yet. It has been tempting to sell at times, but there's nothing I need really (other than a house). What's a house if I don't have my collection to put in it though!

I never see how the original press price plays into the repress price. Who cares if it is more expensive on ebay? That doesn't mean you can overcharge for a new pressing.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think $21.99 was that bad for this - a few dollars more than your average new LP, sure, but given the archival work that (theoretically) went into it and limited run nature, I was expecting to pay a little more.
Friday Records post-'Head' Monkees reissues for $29.99+ A piece? That's nonsense. ($30 for fucking 'Pool It!'? Seriously? And I say that as a fan of the record.)
'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'? That was price gouging.
This? Making sure you can recoup to bring more records down the line, and if a few extra bucks is going to help assure more releases, I'll go for it.

Bought this earlier. Walking With A Killer is such an awesome song. I haven't heard Dirty Hessians yet.
Edit: I just listened to that one too. I am pretty excited for this.

Rough Trade just got in a few copies of the Kim Deal ATP 7", so apparently my record shopping for 2012 wasn't quite done.
Now it is. (I say, half-hoping some other piece of amazement will fall into my lap in the next 12 days.)

Academy Annex Records was the coolest record store there I went too. (Not Academy Records)

    but anyways, food..

artichoke pizza was my top for pizza I think. I got the artichoke slice with their styrofoam cup of beer. It ruled.
Panna II was good for Indian food. That's the restaurant with a ton of lights inside. The waiter fucked up on our stuff a few times, but I think we were just unlucky. It was good food.
Taco Chula was a super good vegetarian mexican food joint. A little pricey, but extremely good.
Tony's or Luigi's has good pizza.
Had italian food at La Mela that was pretty good, but honestly I wouldn't recommend going there unless you're with a group.
Caffe Reggio was a cool coffee shop in the village. I just sat outside and had a tea and people watched. Pretty cool place.

I went with a female friend to see her live on the tour for this record. It was a great show but MAN did I feel out of place.
She was (understandably) a pretty big deal around Rochester (Buffalo is about an hour away) long before she blew up nationally soon after this, but still on an intimate level, if that makes sense. The show I saw was a small theater show that we got tickets for the day of, and two years later she's selling out the arena in town. Mindblowing when things like that happen.

that would depress the hell out of me if i payed full price for one of these only to hear this.

esp. considering jellybelly is one of the best songs on the album.

I dated a girl for about two years who was hardcore into Ani Difranco's music. For her birthday I got her a signed poster all framed and nice. This thread has prompted me to re-listen to her music and reminisce about simpler times.

This Zero debacle is beaten up at this point. The only thing that amazes me is that appearantly no one (or perhaps a deaf person) listened to test pressings prior to giving the factory the thumbs up. BTW, I didn't jump onto the SP vinyl reissues bandwagon, decided for the CDs instead, but a well mastered/cut/pressed vinyl is supposed to sound good or be flawlessly played in any decent equipment. It's even a bigger suprise that they went from a 3xLP to a 4xLP and got a backwards effect.
