  1. Yeah I've been pretty "lucky" myself. I've been working manufacturing jobs since I was 15 and I've been reasonably injury free. I broke 3 toes when I was 16 and someone dropped a full pallet on my toes. Other than that and the most recent deal I've got a clean accident history. I have had a couple catastrophic near misses though. A couple of years back I almost had a cutter blade fall on my foot. Cutter blades are basically 30 lbs razor blades. That one freaked me out. Looks like I'll have my meeting with the OSHA representative tomorrow, so that should be fun. edit - ....and sorry to hear about your injuries. Hope it's a long time before your next.
  2. Work a manufacturing job long enough you are guaranteed to lose a part of a finger.
  3. Sorry. I am apparently a terrible person. I'll make it more clear that it ain't for the faint of heart, although I don't think it's that bad.
  4. Gross pics of my messed up finger/s. Not for the faint of heart, although not all that terrible. https://flic.kr/p/vHrtq9 https://flic.kr/p/vKa6w5 This a few weeks after taking off the tip of one of my fingers at work.
  5. Just got done with them doing the first followup visit for my finger issue and proceeded to throw up in the parking lot while leaving. Spent an hour and a half or more with them poking and proding my finger. More painful than when I cut it off. Ah well the worst is over and I start physical therapy next week. Downside is I'm still on light duty till then. Work is going to be super pissed. When I get sec I'll throw up a pic, it still looks pretty gross.

  7. ...and really happy that abovetheearth is back full circle. No matter what you change your name to you'll always be abovetheearth to me.
  8. Hope everyone had a good 4th of July! Mine was lovely D4th of July was fabulous. Tim Barry rocked, per usual. Toys that Kill are such an amazing band. Off With Their Heads are always tons of fun. Lifter Puller was the surprise band and were great, but I hadn't heard of them till last week when my friend let me know they were the surprise band. Dillinger 4 were shockingly not drunk for their set and were tight. Not a big Against Me! fan but they are a really great live band. Ended up missing Underground Railroad to Candyland because they went on so late at night and we couldn't make it through the first comedian they had. She was so bad. Then I get to show up to work today still on light duty and they don't have any light duty work for me. So I have to burn a vacation day or I get to stay and do full work which would possibly screw up any potential workers comp stuff. I'm not looking to make a big deal about what happened but it pisses me off when they keep trying to ignore the work restrictions I have. I even tried calling the Dr to see if they would remove them but they said no way, and I'll probably have restrictions for a while longer.
  9. Haven't been this excited for a concert in a long time. D4th of July is the best day of the year! Can't wait to see Dillinger Four, Against Me!, Tim Barry, Toys that Kill, Off With Their Heads, Scared of Chaka, and Lifter Puller. Happy 'Merica Day y'all.
  10. Thats a good idea. I would imagine if someone breaking into a van starts hearing any kind of an alarm they'd hightail it out of there.
  11. I love talking about shit like this. Lately a buddy and I have been debating Georgism Economics theory. I hadn't even heard of it till he brought it up a year ago or so. He's super into it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgism
  12. ...and I'll be there not drinking at all. Ah well.
  13. I've probably matched my post total from the last 3 months in the past hour. Apparently this what happens when I am stuck bored out of my mind spending tons of time at home doing nothing but popping vicodin.
  14. Eh, Fox News is all that I watch. Basically the way I see it is that I already know what I believe. I need to know what my opposition is telling people to be able to adequately fight against them.
  15. I end up talking about this pretty frequently. I'm far to the left and people are always shocked when I come out as hugely pro capitalist. Capitalism is the ideal economic system. However, for Capitalism it needs active and attentive oversight by the citizens. Capitalism needs rules and order. Unfettered free market capitalism will lead to a system where all wealth is funneled to the top. I spend a lot of Sunday afternoons drinking a beer at a bar with a couple friends talking about shit like this.
  16. I get where you're coming from. I really do. I've wrote a huge post in response to this but deleted it before posting. I'll try and keep my ideology as abbreviated as possible. If you know someone who is / has abused someone you owe it to society to give the abuser a solid beating. Also if you know someone who you trust who tells you they've been abused you owe it to society to give their abuser a solid beating. Hopefully I'm not coming across as to much of a sociopath.
  17. I've not followed this story to much. If I remember correctly this was brought up on here a while back, and that was the only time I've heard about this. Mostly because these bands are nothing I'd ever be into. Because of that my input will have to be of the hypothetical variety. If a band / band member of a band I'm into has something like this happen I'm done with them. It's not just a matter of not supporting them further it's ridding myself of everything of that band. If a band I'm into is on a label that has a band with a member who sexually assaulted someone I'd expect that they publicly shame said band and distance themselves as much as possible. Including not doing show with them. If a band I'm into is on a label like this one where the head of it is defending / hiding the abuser I'd expect them to do anything possible to get themselves removed from the label. There are certain things like sexual assault and domestic violence where individuals and society need to make clear that no exceptions this will not be tolerated. Abusers are not only abusing their victims, they are putting that fear into everyone. That is exactly why we need more "street justice" in instances like this one. If the legal system lets the victim down then moral citizens should act to ensure appropriate punishment.
  18. ...because apparently it'd pretty damn easy. There has to be some kind of cheap GPS thing bands could throw into their gear somewhere to try and help track down the people doing this.
  19. I can't wait for morning. I get to call the Dr who patched up my fingers to try and ask for some more Vicodin and to have my work restrictions lifted. Hopefully I won't strike out on both. The Vicodin isn't super necessary but I'm having trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep because the finger is moderately hurting. The work restrictions is the one I really need. Right now I'm on Right Hand Work Only. Which really means they just give me normal "assist" work that is done with two hands and tell me to do it one handed, but to do it at the same speed as others doing it with both hands. Sorry for the vent, just bored and in the mood to be a whiny little kid.
  20. Any of y'all wonderful peoples making it out to D4th of July this year? Hope I can run into a few of the fine folks from VC there.
  21. I wouldn't. Over the past year I've sold off a bunch of my collection to fund a DUI and buying a house. What is left is inexpensive stuff and things I wouldn't want to part with.
  22. Eh my night is consisting of me waiting for some vicodin to wear off so i can go pick up some chipotle. I'll probably get crazy tonight and sort through my jar of change while listening to records.
  23. Just realized I am going to run out of Vicodin on Sunday. Looks like I gotta figure out who to contact to try and get a second subscription. I'm definitely not abusing it four 5 mg pills a day and it's just enough to take the edge off the pain. If I can't get more anyone know what the strongest over the counter pain reliever is? I never take medications, I'm assuming that it would just be as high dose of tylenol or advil I can find, right?
