  1. There are multiple points to this question, so I will attempt to tackle each one.

    - Learning music, ie. Instruments- I've learned a lot without the help of an instructor. I play guitar, drums, piano and a few others relatively proficiently; however, I would imagine had a had an instructor early on, I may be rid of poor habits that I may have developed over the years. Though I can write a pretty decent pop song, it may have been nice to learn stronger finger picking technique at a younger age.

    - Recording- the Internet is filled with a bevy of useful information that has made home recording ions better than it was just a decade ago. With the help of online tutorials, YouTube, and web forums, I was able to successfully become confident in utilizing Logic Pro in a home setting. With that said, I can say that I am far from able to make this a career. It would take much more for me to become confident with a larger scale, which is something I am seriously considering for my future. An education would tell me why certain things within a soundscape work in a specific way, I would learn more about sound frequencies, compression, etc. These are things that would be far too complicated for me to try and seek it all out without the assistance of proper instruction.

    - industry- I have been touring and playing in bands for as long as I can remember and I can say one of the best ways to learn the industry is to submerge yourself in it and make friends with as many players in the game as possible. With that said, I've never had lunch with an A&R rep from Sony, I've never had to sign a detailed contract negotiating the rights to a chorus, or songwriting royalties. This may be something I would learn along the way, but I suppose a lot of mistakes could be avoided with proper instruction beforehand.

TLDR: I'm a grumpy old country musician that learned to play and record songs on my own, but I also think that learning from others is pretty cool.

  2. Just finished "Zombie" by Joyce Carol Oates.  Anyone that is familiar with Oates should know that she is definitely one of the greatest rural gothic/americana writers ever.  This story was definitely a parallel to the life of Jeffrey Dahmer; therefore, it was incredibly well written, yet disturbing.  I would recommend anything that she's written.

  3. Just finished reading Penpal by Dathan Auerbach.  So incredibly unsettling and creepy.  It started as a story on r/NoSleep and it soon became one of the more popular stories on there, so the author made a Kickstarter and was able to make it into a book!

A movie deal was also announced in 2012 but nothing's happened with that yet.  He gave a minor update on it in February of this year, but there wasn't really any news about it moving forward yet.

I was just about to start Penpal, should i read it?

  4. loved Daredevil. cant wait for season 2 with Punisher!!

watched the whole first season of Mr Robot over the course of a couple weeks. REALLY liked it. Rami Malek is perfect for the lead character.

we still haven't finished season one, but I saw that Punisher was going to be in the next season and I'm so damn stoked!  With that said, I can't imagine a better Punisher than Thomas Jane.  Speaking of which, I recently watched Punisher: War Zone, so I've definitely seen the worst of the Punishers

  5. Watched a couple horror comedies over the last two days.

-Bloodsucking Bastards- really funny vampire flick that has a bunch of "hey, I know that guy from that one horror movie" actors. I really dug this one.

    - Burying the Ex- It was directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins) and starred Anton Yelchin (Star Trek remakes), so I had high hopes. Unfortunately a weak script took over and made it pretty terrible.

  6. Hello all. I'm Ronnie, a 32 year old writer of sad bastard music.

    Things I dig:

-Americana/Country/Folk music in the vein of Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, John Moreland, Lucero, The Gaslight Antem, etc

-old punk rock- The Clash, The Ramones, The Misfits

-new punk rock- Red City Radio, Against Me

-sludge/doom/black metal- Pallbearer, Deafheaven, The Great Old Ones, Year of no Light, Baroness, etc

    -booze- specifically bourbon

-comic books- batman, image, anything horror

-art- like Ian, because I'm heavily tattooed, the bulk of the art on my walls is tattoo focused

    -Boston Red Sox

Honestly, I'm not a picky dude. I really do love just about everything, especially if I know it's coming from a sentimental place. You can find me on Instagram: ronniegwilliams

    Let's party!

  7. I honestly don't get how people can make jokes in light of this. I understand it's the Internet and people are free to run amuck and I won't single any one joke out; but it seems to be in poor taste to make jokes about children that have been negatively impacted and traumatically scarred die to this. Make any joke you want against a pedophile scumbag, those aren't the ones I'm calling out, but leave jokes out that deal with children.
