If only it were that simple. I think shrugging the issue off is just as bad. Discussion may not fix everything over night but it's a start and better then being like, "Fuck it, people are shitty but I'm not racist so it's not my problem." It's like when people say "I don't care if they let gay people get married, I'm not a homophobe," not caring isn't a positive outlook on progression, coming up with ways to approach those around you who feel differently and helping them realize that they're hurting people is.
