Better show: 24 or The Wire?

the wire FTW

This. The Wire is my favorite show of all time.

It's far more involved than most shows, and it's not always clear what the hell is going on (at least right away). The first two episodes are confusing, and you're not yet sure who's who. There is a huge payoff for sticking with it, though. By the time Omar is introduced in episode 3 things start to click nicely.

I'm the world's biggest cheerleader for this show because I think it's just so brilliant.

Is the wire something you would like to watch more than once? Or is it the type of show that you watch once and that's enough?

I watched it through twice - and I may watch it again in a few years.

24 I just couldn't get into, I tried during the first season but wasn't into it at all (besides looking at Elisha Cuthbert).

The Shield would be a lot better if it were on HBO or Showtime or something, I think it's really held back being on the channel it's on (F/X?)

I'm probably slightly biased being from Baltimore, but The Wire is such an awesome show.

never seen either of these. i tried watching 24 a couple times, but didn't like it.

anybody who has mentioned the shield so far has their head on straight, though. that show is awesome (although i agree with suburbanargyle that it would be better if it were on hbo or showtime).

The Wire. I missed it during the original run and have been blowing through the DVDs and have just finished season 4. I love how it doesn't follow traditional television templates by allowing popular characters to be killed off and the moral ambiguity gives it an edge over pretty much any show I've ever seen.

Season 4 was amazing- I thought they did such a good job with developing the kids' characters, especially the storylines of Namond and Michael. I'll be curious to see what you think of season 5.

I just bought the whole series on the amazon deal. Such a good price.
