I've been reading the paper a lot and I'm pretty sure a lot of times they purposely fudge things so they get a story, then go back and change it. There was one in the Buffalo News about this winter being the coldest since the Blizzard of '77, but in the next day's paper, they said it was the 4th coldest since then, which isn't even a newsworthy story.
