xjustinxschwierx Posted April 7, 2009 Share Posted April 7, 2009 justin, WHAT that is awesome.i don't even know why anyone still pays any attention to this asshat Yeah in the early 90's(way before my time) the Chicago punk scene was really unified and all kinds of random bands played together because there weren't 500 bands, there was only like 20, so Tony's onld bands Only the Strong and Even Score would play with Screeching Weasel and there a legendary show where Ben got on stage (I believe at the old club McGregors) with a shirt that said, "Fuck Straight Edge" on it...because as you're all learning and/or know, Ben starts shit to get people to pay attention to him and thus builds up the "enigma" Ben has of himself where he thinks his opinion matters. Well...in those days Tony was a straight edge as they came, and Ben got dragged off stage and they beat the shit out of him. I kid you not, no one likes Ben. Everyone that has ever dealt with him, universally dislikes him and has 25 reasons to tell you when he's a fucking jackass. If you've loved this band for 15 minutes or 15 years, you'd be a fucking idiot to miss them (him) live. It was the most fun I've EVER had at a show and worth every year of waiting and every penny of the (GASP) $17 (not punk). If you want to act like a 15 year old girl and talk shit, point fingers, or feel superior, sit at home and sulk or talk shit on the internet. The gig will sell out and no one will miss you. Put your silly shit talking and side taking aside for a night and be thankful that bands you missed are hard up for cash and will periodically play shows WITHOUT mailing it in. I get it that it's popular to hate on Ben Weasel and call him a dick, it has been for years. In my opinion, there's a lot of jealousy out there because he made a name for himself and some money playing punk rock. I flew out to Chicago to see the first show Ben did at Reggie's and had a blast. I have my ticket for Austin ready to go as long as I can find a reasonable flight and a place to stay. I've been listening to Screeching Weasel since 1990 or so and I love the music. I could give a shit about the band politics and the he said she said garbage.
