iliketurtles
I went on a 17-mile ride today and I feel pretty good. Here's my ride, where the bikes at? I recently got new pedals and bars and cut down my forks so it doesn't look quite this goofy anymore.

Oh and you will fall.

minty
Gears are for pussies, glow in the dark pedals are not. Custom built by me because I rule!
dante3000
Can someone serious explain the interest in fixed gear bikes?
mattstrike
Can someone serious explain the interest in fixed gear bikes? For me it's mostly the thrill of feeling "one" with the bike. Since your body is responsible for slowing down as much as it is for speeding up, you get into a very organic rhythm riding a fixie. I originally started riding one cos it had less parts to steal/break - and since I was working as a messenger at the time, those two qualities were of importance. I ride with a front brake tho - I ain't that insane!

mattstrike
How do you stop? With the power of hipness. That only works in Center City Philadelphia… in Germantown and other locales you have to use yr legs.

lonesomexloveus
I used to ride brakeless until I got hit by a Jeep on the way to college. that...is unfortunate! :[
minty
I really thought I was dead. I rode away from it but had to ditch college for the next few days so it wasn't too bad. Brakeless is so exciting but dangerous, and a little scary at times.
controlthebleeding
I used to ride brakeless until I got hit by a Jeep on the way to college. same here, but i ran into a car who made a jumpy right turn into traffic and suddenly slowed down. i couldn't stop and ran into the back end of his vehicle and onto his trunk only to fall off (luckily he had stopped so i didn't roll into traffic off a moving vehicle. it did not feel good but i rode away, and my bike was intact.. luckily.. i got a brake the next day. haven't rode without brakes since..
