marc32137
Okay, I've been stumped all day at work. Maybe one of you can help me with this issue. Got a new production PC for work and I set it up today. Windows 8, unfortunately. It has two NIC cards, one for the Internet and one for an internal network. One of the programs we use connects to a server using the internal network, but for some reason, it keeps wanting to only use the Internet, causing it to not work. I've come across this issue before with Windows 7 machines, and the solution's usually pretty simple. Just have to go into the control panel and re-prioritize the networks. No dice this time. It will work if I disable the Internet NIC, but as soon as I re-enable, it stops. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
thebiglebowski
I don't know and haven't used windows 8. I'd suggest you ask on a windows computing focused forum (and maybe yahoo answers). Answer is out there and maybe someone will get you here but I'd ask in these other places in parallel to maximize chances of getting an answer. marc32137
Thanks, I posted it around other places. Really hoping to get it fixed before the workweek starts.
tittus
Anyone have any thoughts on driver installations? I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on a friends laptop and lost the drivers. He doesn't have the disc that came with the computer. I know that I can get windows to install what I need, but I need to get connected to the internet first. Wifi isn't working without the drivers (neither are the usb ports or ethernet port)
circuit bored records
Use a computer that has Internet access to download the drivers from the manufacturer's web site onto a flash drive and install them that way. Or at least the NIC driver so that you have Internet access to download the rest of them. That'd be the only way I know how to do it outside of calling the customer service line of whoever makes the computer and ordering the driver DVDs. tittus
tittus
Awesome, I'm up and running. I burned everything I needed to a disc and ran it that way. Thanks man!

hipsterasfolk
buy an external enclosure, they are like $12. Network is always a pain in the ass whenever I do this for my new machines :/ I got a 320gb in my Macbook and upgraded that to a 500gb and xfer'd the files. Once on there I allow sharing on my network so I link up my iTunes for my little brother....that way he hopefully skips through the shitty high school metalcore phase Unless he likes Suicide Silence's "The Cleansing" that album goes hard in the paint

You should be albe to access the internal server by using your web browser and the designated IP address that the server is placed on. Same with connecting to your router via "192.168.1.1" Also make sure your network settings allow intranet connection, some bugs also arise when IPv6 is enabled on a IPv4 network (weird but it use to be a big deal on network connections in a commercial environment." hipsterasfolk
Regarding partitions, I recently purchased a 2TB external for 140 bucks. I partitioned 600gb for Time Machine, 1.3tb for movies and programs, and 50gb for R/W between windows and macs. I wouldn't keep a backup on the same drive, it defeats the purpose of the HDD going bad and being able to recover. I keep my internet files secured on a network drive backup and duplicate the backup on an external device.

Oh, I figured it out last week and forgot to update my post. Turns out Windows was also prioritizing the on-board NIC over the PCI one, so all I had to do was swap the cables and it worked. Thanks for the help, though!

I still have everything on my computer - what I meant by "movies and programs" is "illegal stuff I download that I can bring anywhere I want!" Yea because if you have a 1TB HDD (example) and you partition 1/4 of that for file backup/recovery....when the HDD dies so does your recovery, I recommend just using the full 1TB and getting a small backup externally for important files. Like I mentioned I keep all my drafts/important docs on network drive and external HDD because I would hate to lose them if my HDD died completely. tittus
I have the worst luck with lightning. My turntable was hit over the weekend. On a surge protector too, which makes me very concerned for everything else I have plugged in. I'm moving soon so I'm not going to overly worry about finding a solution for this house. But holy crap man. This is unbelievable.

I guess I'm taking chances - with two hard drives, one external, one internal, it's unlikely they both die at the same time. I do wish I had a flash HD though. bigbruise
I have a question that is probably off topic but doesn't really deserve it's own thread... Somebody out there has to have an option I haven't tried, figured this was a good place to look. I haven't been able to view pictures on the boards since they fixed the top VC logo (it was down for some, including me). Since then, pictures do not show up in posts, only when I quote the post will I see the photo, in the reply box only. Make sense? I'm on the latest version of Mountain Lion, 10.8.4. Using Chrome. And yes photos show up just fine Safari, haven't tried anything else, don't think it's necessary, and I prefer Chrome. I have tried clearing all browsing data from the beginning of time, multiple times, with no success. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, twice maybe. It's been like this for a few months, my support thread didn't gain the attention of the admin, or anybody else really so I figure it's an isolated issue, me. So, anybody have any ideas?
