ANIMAL COLLECTIVE "Animal Crack Box" 3xLP up now

Recommended Posts

I'm unfamiliar with most of Animal Collective's work, it sounds like these are just early demo recordings? Even if they weren't, all you get for your money is 3 12"s. Screened inner sleeves and an obi strip do not make a 3xLP worth $100. Death to overpriced opportunistic box sets "for the fans"! This will be on what.cd a week after it ships, anyway.

I think the price is ridiculous, and despite looking forward to it will be holding off. I will say that the band has said this will not be put on CD or anything, and to be honest, they aren't like a lot of bands that are just out to make a buck. I have a feeling they wanted these a particular way, and then ended up with quite the cost. But honestly, I highly doubt any CD or digital release. Will someone rip it...yes.

Looks super cool, 93 bucks is a bit much but the artwork is sick!

I liked this blurb from the labels site:

"All retail copies will still be going through Fusetron -- as in we won't be selling copies here, so no amount of begging us will get you one. And they won't be going through normal distribution channels -- too much stuff gets sold to "stores" that simple flip the records on eBay for a profit. So we'll announce things here soon, but in the meantime check the picture below and spread the word about the auction, it's for a good cause."

the test press of this sold a month ago for over two grand.

the bidder who won never paid for it so they relisted it. it sold for less than 600 i think.

This was also a charity auction for doctors without borders which can inflate the selling price. I fully support test pressing auctions for charity.

the label said they stopped selling them temporarily. i was under the impression that more would be put up soon.
yeah but it also said

"IF THERE ARE ANY COPIES LEFT WE WILL ANNOUNCE IT ON THE NEXT EMAIL UPDATE. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR ENTHUSIASM***"

I bet they are just trying to build some hype, I have no doubt this will sell out but I don't think it did this fast.

Which is why we are putting it online only for the low, low price of $92. After it sells, people that bought it will probably go ahead and turn around and sell it on eBay so that fans that actually want to hear the album will have to pay well over $100 to pick up a copy. Also, we're not releasing a CD. Don't thank us, we know how awesome we are.
