mattstrike
Just wondering since we seem to have the other (major) sports covered… No interest? That said, who thinks Chelsea's game last Sunday was poetry on the pitch?
cosmonaut
I will say this about soccer - going to the games is a fucking blast. DC United actually has a great fan base that's comprised of super fun people from local African and Latin American communities and punk rockers. People bang on drums and have chants and all that shit. It's not exactly a Boca/River Plate kind of atmosphere, but it's decent for the states. I don't care for the game itself, but it's a good party.
mattstrike
That's good to hear - it seems like DC is a pretty good club.
xadamhudsonx
Then raise United's banner high, Beneath it's shade we'll live and die, So keep the faith and never fear, We'll keep the Red Flag flying here. We'll never die, we'll never die, We'll never die, we'll never die, We'll keep the Red flag flying high, 'Cos Man United will never die

kirbypuckett
I enjoy soccer, I got into it during the World Cup, but I'm just a passing fan I guess. I wish it was bigger in the states and I had a local team to get excited about.
silentgods
couldn't find a clip. Homer: [the soccer game has bored everyone to silence] Boring! Krusty the Clown: Come on, you shnorers! Do something! Kent Brockman: [bored] Halfback passes to the center. Back to the wing. Back to the center. Center holds it. Holds it. [sighs] Kent Brockman: Holds it. Foreign-accented sports commentator: [excited] Halfback passes to center, back to wing, back to center, center holds it! Holds it! Holds It! dcstrange87
Also, fuck Chelsea. Backed... Just saw Philadelphia released their name and crest, have to say that I am impressed. Love the Franklin quote "Join or Die" in Latin at the bottom of their crest. It will be hard to top Seattle though when it comes to expansion teams. partysmasher
what's the deal with the US soccer leagues and it's games, is it true that games can't be drawn? Does it go into penalties after 90 mins? I heard this a while back and never really bothered to find out if there was any truth behind this...
pjaicomo
Americans are bored by soccer. It's a fact. They make a big stupid deal about it every time the World Cup rolls around and every time America still doesn't care. Not sure why. Personally, I am in the not caring majority. American football is where it's at.

Not true anymore. until '99 games that were tied at the end went into penalties, except the winning club only got 1 point for winning in a shootout. Now its the standard 0 for a loss, 1 for a tie and 3 for a win.

mattstrike
This is an honest question - what do all you UK folks dislike about Chelsea? I wouldn't consider myself an exclusive supporter of any club (well, maybe Barca…), so I ask only out of curiosity. I just like exciting, well-played football. But I hate Beckham.
