kyle
I have an Expedit and love it! I was just pointing out that there are more dedicated systems out there that are much higher quality. Very hard to beat the Expedit's bang for buck value, though.
epheron
i mean, if i had a place i knew i would be living in for years and had the money, i would just get built in sturdy shelves to store everything. but that won't be for quite a while more than likely. cosmonaut
^ Can you remove the legs at the bottom, or are they actually attached? Countefiction is right. Not only can the legs be removed, they actually don't even come with the shelves. It's part of the line, but they're like $10 extra. I got them because my setup is in my basement and there's a .05% chance of flooding, and I figure the legs give me a little extra security in that regard. adamlikesmusic
Do expedits have backs?
deadformat
Nope.
adamlikesmusic
Hmm... I may be going with the Traby, then.
kyle
Get a 1/8" sheet of particleboard from Home Depot, paint it black and tack it in with a couple nails. If its up against the wall you won't know any different.
adamlikesmusic
Because of the molding at the bottom of the walls in my house, none of my furniture sits directly up to the wall.
kyle
Ah, that makes sense. That Traby does look really nice, the main reason to go with the Expedit over the Traby is the price, but if you need the back then the Traby looks perfect. forgeagain
IKEA makes all sorts of accessories for the EXPEDIT that make it much more expensive, but some of them are pretty damn nice. I have two of the doors and 2 of the 2-drawer inserts. Looks great.
mcm1610
I took a stroll through Lowe's yesterday and decided I'm just going to make my own 2x2 shelf which will last me a year until I have to make another tho. But three large pine boards, a sheet of paneling, and an afternoon with a saw and a drill and I'll have my own for maybe $50. But if I fuck it up, which is pretty likely... I just don't like the idea of particle-board, no matter what it's coated in or whatever. Those Traby things do look nice, but I'm going to go for the solid wood approach. Maybe use some hockey pucks as feet incase I have it in a basement in a future house.

adamlikesmusic
Ended up buying the Expedit this morning. 4x4. The Traby just seemed too expensive.
ocnypunk
Im tempted to get an Expedit put it just looks cheap and weak. Anybody have theirs for more than a year and have it still hold up well(no bending shelves). Traby looks more sturdy and better for the long term. adamlikesmusic
From what I could tell in the store, Traby is still just particle board, with a realistic vinear. It isn't solid wood or anything.
