andywax
I'm currently at 30,000 feet as I type this. Wifi on airplanes = awesome
kyle
Does it cost anything?
goraiders
apparently they can legally search your computer without a warrant or anything on airplaine wifi, not that it really matters for most people.
andywax
Does it cost anything? normally it's $8, but I had a promo code for a free trial

I doubt very much that's something they're doing, unless someone on the ground can be on the same network as you are on at 30K feet. Even then, unless you've got all kinds of open ports, which would make you vulnerable on any Wi-Fi network, you should be okay.
goraiders
I'm not sure how it works but my friend works for a law firm and one guy theyre defending for kiddie porn got caught because of that on an airplane. I don't think theyre doing it to everyone, but I'm not really sure what the details are.
mrc
last time i flew they offered this but it was 12 or 14 bucks so i passed, especially since my flight was only an hour and a half. I think the airport charging for wifi is bullshit, do they really need to gouge you on wireless as well as on food, drinks, booze, books... and everything else they sell
mcm1610
I'll be fine with my book. If you can't survive a plane ride without the internet... well... I'm not really too concerned what they find on your computer. Develop an attention span. I hate technology. The more it advances, the more I want to blow it up. Just Another Tom
I don't know the details. but i'm pretty sure they can't view your files/have control over your system, only monitor what sites/emails you are looking at. Also i am not sure about America, but in the UK we have the data protection act that protects you against this kind of thing. And if you send which ever company an administration fee of £10 they have to supply you with all the information they have about you. So if they search your puter and make a record of it, you can make them send you the file they have on you.

Yeah Tom, this is America, we have no rights and are too lazy to riot in the streets to protest sweeping unconstitutional laws instituted by fear mongering politicians. suburbanargyle
You know what scares the shit out of me, is the talk I've heard of enabling people to talk on their cell phones during flights. That's what I need, some douchebag salesman jabbering away the whole flight next to me.
mcm1610
Why can't you talk on your phones now? I've only been on a plane about 6 times, and that was all in one semester of college. I'm far from a vet, but they tell you to turn all that electronic shit off, and I have no idea why.
