I don't know about you but I'm perfectly contented without any Almost tracks to tide me over till the album comes out, shit, I'll be content never hearing it at all.

Also, I wanted to hit him so hard "Hi, my name is Aaaron and I play a band called The Almost" FUCK YOU! You play in Underoath! They're actually quite good, why you gotta go mess it all up with this crap

Can't say i have heard of Almost before this thread, but i knew i recognised him from somewhere.

I don't like these pre-order gimmicks, whats wrong with just picking a release date, working hard to get it ready for said date and releasing it for people to buy. Impatience is slowly destroying a relaxed way of life we should all be living, the record store in my town closed down a few years ago, and i miss it like a dead relative. :(

Nah, i think that is just a demo model. I'm guessing you get it with printed sleeves and booklet with printed discs, just no songs on disc 2, then on the day of release you just need to burn the album to the disc. which if it fails means you have a printed useless disc.

Edit:

I wonder how much not having the songs burnt on the disc gets knocked off the price of production... they might be on to something.

The New Pornographers did something similar to this where the deluxe version of their record came with blank discs (they had artwork on the discs, just no songs). I think there were two or three discs. Then over the months after the record came out, they would release songs (demos, b-sides, live) to put on the discs however you wanted. That way you could put on only the songs you wanted and in what order you preferred. Pretty cool.

As for this idea, being a bit of an audiophile I worry that the full album that you are supposed to download will be in mp3 format which we all know is lossy. Why anyone would think that letting people burn lossy mp3s to a CD is a great product is beyond me. And besides, pre-orders generally ship to customers around the same time that the record ships to stores, which usually means you get the record two to three weeks before release anyway. So I don't see what's so special about the idea that when you pre-order you don't even get the record early. Just a download that you then have to burn yourself. Kind of a lame idea, Aaron.
