dynamitekid
Saw this video: http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0508/521743_video.html?ref=newsstory I don't shop at Whole Foods too often because its so expensive. What do you guys think?
shanehennessey
Their story was kind of weak. If I'm looking for fresh, organic and local food, I'm not going to buy frozen pre packaged whole foods brand vegetables.

jimmythescumbag
why? they treat their employees like shit :-[ This is true. I know someone who works there (Whole Foods...thought that was what maria's post was about...my bad), and all they do is complain about how they get treated like shit, despite the fact that they have won TWO contests (raising money for charity...they got to go to Peru already, now they get to go to Guatamala) at their store within the past year. Luckily, they put in for a transfer already.
adamlikesmusic
I think that video was pretty stupid. They didn't actually have any evidence of the foods not being organic, other than being grown in China. It's the same logic employed by the 'birthers'. And the narrating chick sounded like a bitch. desensitizedbyu
Also, the video is about 2 years old.
dynamitekid
Their evidence was that, being from China, it isn't held to the same organic standard as the U.S. so to advertise it as being certified U.S. organic is disingenuous. But, I typically don't buy frozen vegetables though so it wouldn't really affect me.
forgeagain
Whole Foods has an illegal monopoly in the United States. Their merger with Wild Oats was a clear violation of the Sherman Act. Our government has failed us. The products sold by Whole Foods are mostly good, yet ridiculously expensive for the reasons mentioned above. Organic, not organic, it largely does not matter. mariawithoneeye
yeah I agree. ridiculously expensive. except they get all my money because I live a block away from one. sad
kirbypuckett
i read an article online about how walmart actually has better locally grown organic stuff than a place like whole foods. very interesting. I don't buy it. A few times when my g/f and I needed veggies in a pinch we bought them at Walmart. They were terrible -- lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados none of them were fresh and the avocados had a weird taste.

riddle350
if people are really that concerned with buying fresh locally grown organic fruit and vegetables then they should buy them at a fucking farmers market.
kirbypuckett
I'm lucky enough to live down the street from a market that sells fresh veggies, but I mostly shop at Giant Eagle or Trader Joes. I stop at Whole Foods occasionally if I want a really good steak or some fish.
