I can't do just one opening track. Hell, my list is down to 20 and I don't know where to cut. I would take Radiohead- EIIRP but a lot of people already have that one. I'll give three in two very distinct categories:

Best opening track that is also a great lead in for the album

Flaming Lips- Race For the Prize (Remix)

Best opening track that's just great as a standout track

Stars- Your Ex-Lover Is Dead (my favorite song of all time)

The Beta Band- Dry The Rain

I also have to add

NOFX - The Decline

Strung Out - Mission to Mars (actually pretty much any Strung Out opener)

Propagandhi - Night Letters

Every Time I Die - Romeo A Go-Go

Alkaline Trio - Cringe

Thrice - Kill Me Quickly

How does the decline even count? Its an 18 minute song that is the Aside of a 12" single.

The Newyork Dolls - Personality Crisis

The Jam - In The City

The 13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me

Lots of kickass songs listed, can't argue with most of the choices out there. Like many have said, Strung Out and Rise Against have pretty solid openers for every album. I'd also say Bad Religion and (old) AFI had great starts to set the tone for the entire album. Here's a few I drummed up on the fly:

Hells Bells - AC/DC

Fazer - Quicksand

My War - Black Flag

Golden Tanks - Cancer Bats

Caboose - Snapcase

The Fox - Sleater-Kinney

Maxwell Murder - Rancid

Worms of the Senses - Refused

The Wolf is Loose - Mastodon
