What kind of 'scene' is huge in your hometown?

I've seen a recent growth in mainly instrumental almost jam like bands around here its wierd. there are a lot of them.

of course there are still hardcore shows with 150 people shoved into a tiny whare house.

but that is not exclusive to oklahoma.

I hate scenes I dont think it works for the creativity of a good band.

SOME MENTION-worthy bands:

THE NON, EL PASO HOT BUTTON ( This guy is a one man band complete with drums and everything, He still manages to put on a hell of a show), and SPEAK OUT ( because I have to your welcome greg).

Omaha is full of hipsters.

Eagle*Seagull

http://www.myspace.com/eagleseagull

(for fans of Sunset Rubdown)

Coyote Bones

http://www.myspace.com/coyotebones

(for fans of owls? (not the band, the animal....))

i really like coyote bones, we rarely have bands play in our town but little brazil and coyote bones came once and they were cool

the C-boners are tons of fun. They alaways seem to put on a great high energy show every time. E*S is pretty great too. Although the record labels seem to hate them...

Some of the bigger bands from my town, currently :

http://www.myspace.com/deadhearts

http://www.myspace.com/lemuria

http://www.myspace.com/everytimeidie

http://www.myspace.com/cuteiswhatweaimfor

http://www.myspace.com/itdiestoday

So it's all over the place here. There really hasn't been a collective scene here for a while.

Toronto used to have a pretty strong Punk scene, and a surprisingly big Ska scene, back in the late 90s/early 2000s. But with the closing of the vast majority of all ages clubs, that scene doesn't really exist anymore.

Its mostly hardcore and sort of trashy/glam-punk kind of bands now, it seems.

Once you get into the surrounding suburbs, where the "scenes" were the strongest back in the day (burlington especially), now basically every band just mimics Alexisonfire.

Maybe I'm just old and don't know where the good parties are anymore (haha), but thats what the Toronto scene seems like to me.

in baltimore there is basically all time low, a bunch of other bands trying to be all time low,

was that the band that like took a picture of themselves in their underwear? (i think i saw it in an issue of AP possibly??) If it is that is jokes.

hahha, yeah, that's them. some girl got suspended from school for having that poster in school. lame.

and

at least they were when i last payed attention, which was around the time SII broke up. any more i just book touring bands i like, try to toss signal home on the bill, and call it a show. these last 2 years, i've just had no desire to go to local shows without SII playing, since all that's played around here is emo and metal.

I live in Austin so there this town is pretty diverse. Everyone supports just about every scene. We have a variety of touring acts here that any one person can support. I can go see Atmosphere one week, and then go support WOrld BURNS TO DEATH the following tues night. Most here are pretty open to different genres of music, which makes it a good place for festivals like SXSW, FUN FUN FUN FEST, and Austin City Limits. So rather than most supporting one scene, we support several at a time, which is enough for every scene to flourish...

I'm not really into any of those bands, but Cute Is What We Aim For is fucking terrible on all levels.

when i was finishing high school it was punk/hardcore...now it's mostly indie rock type deals.

geronimo: quite good, features members of jade tree band despistado http://www.myspace.com/geronimonow

the national frost: aiming for epicness, purposefully quirky, but still quite solid http://www.myspace.com/nationalfrost

rah rah: i'm the least familiar with these guys, but they're the hottest one right now out of all of them i think http://www.myspace.com/rahrahband

All of those bands are awesome. A friend and I were just talking about how much better Regina's scene is than ours.

But still......Despistado > Geronimo

Honestly, Toledo's scene is incredibly shitty because there is no scene. I actually went to a show in a much smaller, "middle of nowhere" town and their scene was actually huge. Granted, it was a bunch of 15 year-old scenesters but it's better then nothing I guess.

EDIT: We used to have some decent bands around here, and "We are the Fury" are from Toledo, but alot of people around here think they sold out (their music used to be sooo different before they changed their name). But sadly most bands broke up due to the lack of a scene!

despistado killed. saddes break-up since filmmaker.

also, that may be the case right now, but due solely to the weakerthans, greg macpherson, and propagandhi winnipeg has the all-time edge.

Yeah, G7 Welcoming Committee circa 5 years ago was awesome. Gmac is still as solid as ever. I saw him twice last week. www.myspace.com/macphersonband
