daegor
Toshiba SR-5617: Ion TTUSB10: I have both, I'm giving the way the lesser turntable to my friend, which one should I give away and why? I couldn't find any reviews of the Toshiba.

daegor
Don't do it bro. Don't do what? I'm asking which one to keep, not which one to buy, I already own both
daegor
Give me some why's peoples! What makes the $20, used Toshiba better than the Ion that I bought new for over $100?
harryq
assuming you've used both, I say go with whichever sounds better unfortunately, that's not an option on your poll...
tankerdesk
give the toshiba away, sell the ion, buy a different table.
lonesomexloveus
the top one is more aesthetically pleasing. obviously, this is the only criteria you should use when determining which to keep.

mdb
If they sound the same to you, keep the Toshiba. That ion is pretty ugly.
almightyseancore
am i the only one that doesnt think the ion is ugly? the toshiba looks like crap to me, and probably has a ribbon moter. i'm assuming the other is a direct drive, which is a good thing. i own a direct drive, and i love to stall mine when putting the needle on a record. it makes for a smoother start. how you can not make this decision on your own, is what i don't understand. clearly you must have a favorite. EDIT: the ion is a usb? fuck that, sell them both and get yourself something good.

I'm not sure what to pick because I know that people shit on the Ion, however it's usually without an argument to back them up. AND the Toshiba DOES look like a POS, BUT sounds fine. Re selling both, getting a better one, not an option, I have no moneys for something like that, I'm keeping one of them.
monsterrod
If they sound the same to you, and you are indifferent to the belt/direct drive, then maybe you should go with the Ion due to the USB component. Do you have any plans on ripping your albums to MP3s? If so, you may be better off keeping the turntables with the capabilities you can utilize and appreciate more. Actually, this is the one thing that might tip me in favour of the Toshiba Vinyl rips via USB, particularly from Ion tables, are considered quite inferior to ripping through a line in on your computer. Re selling both, getting a better one, not an option, I have no moneys for something like that, I'm keeping one of them. I can't speak from first hand knowledge, but the complaints that are usually lodged against the Ion/USB tables is they wear out records much quicker than standard tables. Whether or not that is factual, I don't know, but if I were you I would probably stick it out with the Toshiba. Then maybe take some time to save up for a Rega or Pro-ject.
