steventangent
?? I have no idea who, or what, is in this picture. Harry Morgan was a character actor on various television shows and films noir. He was most famous for Dragnet and M*A*S*H. And dog food commercials. justaminrthreat
But seriously, I thought it'd be funny to post something that is a decidedly lame point in the man's career by way of tribute. But since, understandably, few people here are really familiar with why he was awesome, let me sum it up in one of his best moments on M*A*S*H : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpIgQTeAD9c&hl=en&fs=1 Also, it's pretty interesting how a TV show, ostensibly about the Korean war (but really about Viet Nam), can remain relevant 25+ years later. Guess it's probably because it's mostly the same old shit. M*A*S*H was so good. When I moved for college I spent a lot of time in my room with no cable. The only channel that came in clearly played like 2 hours of the re-runs every night and I ended up getting really into it. Definitely still relevant today. justaminrthreat
I'll admit, I totally thought of Dexter's dad first, though. Ha.

xjustinxschwierx
oh yeah, think it's widely understood that Alda was the reason it got too heavy handed.

steventangent
Fuck it, I even like a lot of the heavy handed episodes. Henry Blake was awesome, but Potter brought an awesome dynamic to the show. Blake was a loveable goofball that Trapper and Hawkeye mostly walked all over; Potter was a hardass with horse sense and a kind heart that was always a step ahead. You could almost divide the show completely into the Blake/Hawkeye/Trapper/Frank years and the Potter/Hawk/BJ/Winchester years, for what little overlap there was. Each era had it's merits, though Alda did write and direct some corny moments.
