Daniel Dopp
Pre-order here!! Something To Break Records is proud to announce our very first release, Chris Staples brilliant solo album, “American Soft.” We’ve been working with Staples over the last few months to get this album pressed and we’re excited to say that we’re opening the pre-order for it today! The pre-order will remain open for a month (Feb 8th). This release will include 2 bonus tracks that were written and recorded specifically for the vinyl release! We will be releasing 3 different variants. 100 clear w/ white and blue splatter, 150 black, and 200 white. Each of the pre-orders will be hand numbered and signed and will come with a hand written song lyric of your choosing from any song off of American Soft. The lyric sheets will also be signed and numbered by Staples. The pre-order will be $20 and is expected to ship in April 2013. We are also releasing a bundle of all 3 variants with a hand bound, signed, and numbered lyric booklet that will include a cover page and short thank you from Staples for helping to support this project. This lyric book will include hand written lyrics from all 10 songs off of American Soft. There are only 20 of these bundles and they will be available for $50. As an added bonus, anyone who orders during the pre-order month will be included in a drawing to win a free test press of the album. Each order gets your name included 1 time with the bundle giving you 3 chances to win. A total of 2 test presses will be given away. This pre-order is directly helping to fund a small portion of this project and we want to thank everyone who helps support this release. After the pre-order has ended, the record will be available for $15. We hope that the bonus content, as well as knowing that you’re directly supporting Staples and Something To Break will be worth the extra $5 to purchase the pre-order. However, we know that money is often tight and we understand if you’d rather wait to buy the record after the pre-order has finished. The album will be available through our webstore, or you can get it directly from Staples when he goes on his West Coast tour in April. We’re stoked to be able to bring this album to you guys and we cannot wait to get it in our hands so that we can ship them out to you! We’ll also be announcing another small surprise about two weeks into the pre-order, so make sure to “Like” our Facebook page in order to stay up to date with the details of the release. Thank you for being a part of this! Something To Break Records www.somethingtobreak.com www.facebook.com/somethingtobreak
dreamover
So during preorders they're $20 each or $50 for all three, but after preorders they'll be $15 each?

Daniel Dopp
So during preorders they're $20 each or $50 for all three, but after preorders they'll be $15 each? Yep. Like we said, all of this money is going toward the release, so you're directly helping Staples be able to fund his portion of the project. During the pre-orders you're getting the record, a hand written lyric sheet, (unless you purchase the bundle, then you get the lyric booklet) and you have the possibility of winning a test press. Afterwards they'll be $15. We totally understand if you guys want to wait and get it once it's $15. Money can be tight and Chris and I both know that. We wanted to offer some incentives to people who would enjoy the extra content and wouldn't mind spending $5 more to help fund the project. Either way, we're just stoked to be able to make this available for everyone!

dreamover
i don't think tooth & nail is licensing out records any more (EMI) and i highly doubt they'd ever press it for more personal reasons than financial reasons.

AlexH.
I thought this was being pressed at Gotta Groove, but now I see that it says Pirate's Press in the description? Or am I thinking of some other release?
Daniel Dopp
We ended up having to change at the last minute. We're trying to get this out in time for Chris to take on tour and Gotta Groove gave us a proposed time frame at the end of December and by the time the beginning of February came around, that time frame had changed. So we ended up having to switch plants. It's not what we originally intended, but it's important to me that Chris be able to take these out with him when he heads west in April. Daniel Dopp
We're going through all of the pre-orders and a vast majority of people didn't specify which song they'd like to receive with their order. As we originally said, we will randomly choose one for you, but we'd like to offer all of you a chance to pick your own. Feel free to shoot us an email at: [email protected] and specify which American Soft lyric sheet you'd prefer!
dreamover
that's really surprising that pirate's press can do it faster. plus they have to ship from czech republic, to california, to you (and the freight costs are nuts).
Daniel Dopp
that's really surprising that pirate's press can do it faster. plus they have to ship from czech republic, to california, to you (and the freight costs are nuts). I just spoke with them and their shipping costs associated are simply FED EX ground shipping from their offices in SF to wherever the product is going (which is FL for us). The only time you pay for shipping from the Czech Republic is if you request rush shipment directly from the factory. I'm not sure if that's how they've usually done business, but that's how they're doing it for us.
dreamover
when are these shipping?
Daniel Dopp
Test presses have already been approved (they sound amazing) and it's looking like we'll be receiving these around the April 15. We'll be shipping them out as soon as we receive them. As soon as we get shipping confirmation from the plant we'll let everyone know! Daniel Dopp
Here are a few photos for those who participated in the pre-order. For anyone who bought a single record you'll receive something like this... And for those that bought the 3 album bundle you'll be receiving these... We can't wait to get these out to you guys. The record sounds phenomenal and we think the hand written lyrics (and all of them are HANDWRITTEN, not photocopied) are pretty sweet. Daniel Dopp
Were so stoked to finally say that the American Soft vinyl has arrived! We're packing the records up this week and everything should be shipping out by the weekend. We know this has taken a little longer than expected (SXSW and RSD delayed our shipment by two weeks), and we're incredibly thankful that everyone has been so patient. Here's a look at the splatter that most everybody ordered...
