SmokedDecline
So I took a leap of faith. Read some bad reviews of this place and personally got a bad vibe from the product descriptions. They advertise them as Record Store Day left overs and have a release date for 2011 and state the label as Geffen, They're wrong. They also say that they are "expected in shortly." They are in stock. Being the stupid human that I am I went for it anyway. I actually had a bit of evidence that they were the first pressings And I didn't really care weather they were the first or second, just as long as they were one of either Original Recordings Group or ORG Music with preference for the first press. Thankfully, It paid off and now maybe it'll help you too. If anyone is looking to pick up the first pressings of Nirvana's "Original Recordings Group" LP's pressed at RTI, (not the second pressing done by "ORG Music" that were pressed in Germany) this includes the cream yellow In Utero, They're available here; http://www.whatrecords.co.uk/search.asp?artist=nirvana&title=&format=&catalogue=&submit.x=-482&submit.y=-320 They aren't cheap but I don't think they ever were. I bought all three and shipped from the UK to Vancouver, B.C. it worked out to be about $55USD each. They arrived sealed, in perfect condition and beautifully packed. If this helps you out, you're welcome! Does anyone that bought these in 2009 happen to remember what they originally went for? $30-$35ish??? GradedOnACurve
Yeah they were between $30-$40 depending on the store. I got my In Utero on Cream for $30ppd on eBay back in '09.
SmokedDecline
In all the searching I did people said they were spendy but nobody mentioned the price and all the links were long gone. ORG has them for $35.00 each for the 2nd press Unplugged and the only insecticide press. Normally I'd consider that crazy but for some reason, concerning these I feel it's worth it. I'm not sure why. But I also don't know why I've never owned a Nirvana record until today.
phoenixinflight
Thanks for posting this dude, gonna pick these up!
dansar
I have used what records a few times and never really had a problem with them, he wraps the records well.
SmokedDecline
I read a few reviews about him and they were all bad. Records not showing up, dogging calls not responding to emails. The typical horror stories. What made me really dumb here(I was paying through PalPal so I would been covered), I messaged and asked if they were in stock, he replied yeah and then I ask about the stickering to narrow down weather they were Simply vinyl, Original Recordings Group or ORG Music. With no response. Then a few days latter I found his ebay store while checking prices on Nirvana vinyl. They were up as buy it nows for 40 and 45 pounds. The pictures in the auctions were the fist press and he had awesome feedback. It seemed sketchy enough to be a little exciting and since he was selling them at those prices he might have been annoyed at being second guessed. These sound amazing and deserve the praise I've read ever where. I think I'm going to go for the In utero BFRSD. I'm down with the 2013 Albini mix. I hope their stamped like the Insecticides. allenh
I've used What Records quite a few times and found him to be very helpful and give a good service but that said I do think he can get a bit overwhelmed when it gets busy, It's a 2 way street some people have no patience and communication from the seller is always a good way to stopping the loss of patience. I bought these when he first got them and at that time they were at a very special price, can't remeber how much but 10 or 15 pounds each sounds familiar. andydrums
Yeah I've used What various times. I had an issue with getting a refund after a Nirvana LP release was cancelled, but in fairness to the dude, he was dealing with the Iron maiden reissues at the time and had 1000's of orders to process. SmokedDecline
I didn't even think about that but I assumed from his ebay feedback numbers that there would be several people working the Barn. If that's all him, he's got no time for anything and he gets even more props than before. I wasn't impatient about it, He got back to me super quick the first time and then vanished. I let it go figuring the non- response and whacked details added up to a bootleg or the like. I'm very happy to avoid that when all things seem to point in one direction. How long has he had these? And is this common knowledge to Nirvana people on the board, What.uk having color Nirvana? I haven't been collecting for a few years so I wouldn't be surprised but I didn't run into anything on here while digging. Phoenix is pumped about the news so mission accomplished in my book. I wish 10-15 pounds sounded familiar to me, I could use that all the time. I'm gonna drop this guy a note and make sure he knows he's awesome. It's good to hear other positive reviews. What.UK is on my lists. Edit, typo
dansar
At rsd this year he reduced alot of nirvana and i got nirvana unplugged red lp for £10. And please don't think i was having ago at you smokeddecline.
stranaspank
I'm sure this has been hashed out a million times, but are these ORG pressings considered the best sound quality pressings of Nirvana's catalog? I can understand if the new In Utero delux press is better, but for more or less standard pressings, are these the way to go?
timsimmons
Yeah. These are the ones to get.
filthyrich
I have this whole colored set, obtained through a couple trades (a nice user on this board sold me her blue Nevermind, forgot her name) with Unplugged coming from What Records. I think it was 20 pounds but I could be wrong. It was worth the money... Shipping costs are ugly, but if you buy a couple things at once it's not too bad. He's a stand-up guy. I've found some nice finds in his store for reasonable prices (25 pounds or less), including the blood-red repress of The Cure's Pornography, Bat For Lashes' Haunted Man on white (/200), and most recently the blue MOV press of the first Rage Against The Machine, which absolutely DESTROYS the American "XX" press. (Thanks to whoever on this board tipped me off to the SQ of that one... )
MahPah
Damn, I woud have ordered them if Nevermind was still available.
Dicky Greenleaf
Damn, I woud have ordered them if Nevermind was still available. The black version of Nevermind is still available from the ORG shop: http://orgmusic.merchnow.com/products/160717/nevermind-black-lp As well as: In Utero - http://orgmusic.merchnow.com/products/160721/in-utero-black-lp Incesticide (clear vinly) - http://orgmusic.merchnow.com/products/165610/incesticide-clear-lp
